Conspiracy theorist: "there are not coincidences!"

What, are they expecting different copies of the newspaper to contain different text for different readers? That would require even more of a consipiracy.

However, it's exactly what can happen on news and other supposedly factual websites: there's no reason any two regular viewers will be shipped exactly the same content.

There's a subculture for everything...
Especially since the Internet. It was different when you had to write letters and shared what has been described as a "monoculture". Now you can choose your own reality, your own facts, find others who also want to feel special. Find your fellow freaks. Listservs when the Internet first came out. Imagine if you had to be a skeptic who had to write letters to other skeptics and hoaxers? I would never have met the people I did, or made the things I did, before the Internet. I would have died never having met folks around the globe with similar interests. Great for science. Huge accelerator and cross-fertilizer.

These three and the "mantids," insect-looking guys, seem to be the four that are embraced by UFO buffs these days, but of course over the years there have been dozens.
And who flies the jellyfish, the hammers, the orbs, the black triangles, the rods, and the cubes within the circles? I need more of a dramatis personae. Plus the eggs, who makes Barber's eggs?

I suppose the mantids must be flying the eggs.

"Hey human, have you seen a bald guy with big eyes who never blinks? He abducted my cousin and took his landing vehicle and flew off in a helicopter!"

About a decade ago I wrote a KSP (Kerbal Space Program) themed version of "2001: A Space Odyssey", played for laughs. I followed up with a little, documentary style story, about the work of the director on the movie, "Stanley Kerman" (a rip on Stanley Kubrick). That included them insisting on having soil transported from the Mün (Moon) at great expense, for the scene with the monolith. Of course, the Stanley Kubrick stand in wasn't impressed with it, "It's just grey dirt", so decided to "CG in" something more to their taste.

You joke but I definitely remember hearing Garry Nolan talk about his theories for how people who see UFOs and other woo woo stuff must just have some biological ability to see these real things, and people who don't have those experiences are lacking that ability, which blinds them to The Truth of reality. It's similar to the idea that neurodivergent people are more likely to be telepathic (and that telepathy is real, of course).

If bunk was a pop song
(try to guess the nationality of the singer, if you don't know him already)
I probably need to google the lyrics to get the joke, but I really enjoyed the song, especially the first version. Adding it to my playlist.

Also, I am really pleased and proud to have been here for Metabunk's first nipples. What a time to be alive! (Now we just need a thread with some cute cats doing goofily adorable things, and we will have fully joined the rest of the Internet...):D

I'm happy you enjoyed it, but the lyrics are bunk.
Article:
"Ever since I started singing, I was very influenced by American music and everything Americans did. So at a certain point, because I like American slang—which, for a singer, is much easier to sing than Italian—I thought that I would write a song which would only have as its theme the inability to communicate. And to do this, I had to write a song where the lyrics didn't mean anything."

I found a transcript online where the lyrics are spelled out in Italian, which is quite an experience.

Your eyes are sharper than mine; I had wondered why Youtube had flagged the other upload as unsuitable for general audiences....

I thought that WAS "cute cats doing goofily adorable things".

That's good ...and bad.

Agreed. I was happier before all of it. What about you? Part of it is just getting older in a world I wouldn't have chosen for a future, and looking at the past with rosy retrospection, but social interactions seemed better before all the computers.. There has been a great fracturing or kaleidoscopic disorientation of reality, making it more difficult to relate to others and find mutual joy as everyone's gears are ground down trying to relate to others.

The wars never stop, and the weapons just get better. It is disheartening after witnessing the end of the Berlin Wall, to see that things are just as bad and dangerous as ever.

There is a loneliness epidemic, serious political problems, environmental problems, techno-fascism, malignant persons in power around the world.. We've got to get ourselves "back to the garden", but the garden has been bulldozed, and the air is choked with smoke. It's what warlike apes do.

Maybe there is a "better place"; I don't remember being miserable before I was born (didn't have a choice, there), and thrust into this hel… er, world as a meat puppet.

So, I can try to help other animals, treat people as kindly as I can, stay alive to help my parents get through it, and then? Die. That's the plan :D
