The bandaid comment is out of context, It was about a list of white privileged written by a leftist white women ,Im sorry I grew up watching the Little Rascals buckweat was his name in the series and my favorite rascal .and again you forgot to add what I was replying to . Social justice is Communism . Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are race baiters resposible for the death of a young jewish boy In NY I have no respect for either of those two Assholes . Didnt see one racist comment whatsoever . many facts like being overplayed .Nextime before you post bullshit next time read all of the context and what was being replied to . EPIC FAIL

Joe, I'm not pointing all this out to condemn you. Hell, you're probably less racist than most of the people I work with every day. I even agree that Obama's Special Olympics comment was especially insensitive, and that some of the others were borderline racist. I think almost everyone can improve their sensitivity to others and trying to get you to recognize that you have room for improvement. Your repeated denial that your statements could be construed as racist is what led me to label you racist.

We did read ALL of what you said. I have do respect for that druggie, sexist Rush Limbaugh.

You can't BLAME Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton for the action of some folks.

Are you talking about the Crown Heights riots?

At approximately 8:20 pm on August 19, 1991, Yosef Lifsh, 22, was driving a station wagon with three passengers...All accounts agree that Lifsh was beaten before ambulances and police arrived. .....Some falsely believed that Gavin Cato died because the Hatzolah ambulance crew was unwilling to help non-Jews. Their anger was compounded due by a false rumor at the time that Lifsh was intoxicated. A breath alcohol test administered within 70 minutes of the accident indicated this was not the case. Other false rumors circulating shortly after the accident included: Lifsh was on a cell phone, Lifsh did not have a valid driver's license, and that police prevented people, including Gavin Cato's father, from assisting in the rescue....
Later that evening, as the crowds and rumors grew, people threw bottles and rocks. At about 11:00 pm, someone reportedly shouted, “Let's go to Kingston Avenue and get a Jew!" A number of black youths then set off westward toward Kingston Avenue (seven-tenths of a mile away from Utica Avenue), a street of predominantly Jewish residents several blocks away, vandalizing cars and heaving rocks and bottles as they went.....l Rosenbaum killing

About three hours after the riots began, early on the morning of August 20, a group of approximately 20 young black men surrounded 29-year-old Australian Jew....Relations between blacks and Jews in Crown Heights began to improve almost immediately following the rioting. Brooklyn Borough President Howard Golden summoned the leaders of each of the ethnic communities to Borough Hall within days after the riots ended, creating what became known as the Crown Heights Coalition. The Coalition, led by the President of Medgar Evers College and Rabbi Shea Hecht, Chairman of the Board of the National Committee for Furtherance of Jewish Education (NCFJE), functioned for ten years as an inter-group forum in which to air neighborhood concerns and work out issues. Golden used the Coalition to initiate interracial projects designed to promote dialogue.[2] One project involved sending a Jewish leader and a Black leader together in a pair to public intermediate and high schools in the area to answer questions from the children about each other's cultures.[34]

A week after the riots, Hatzolah helped repair an ambulance of a black-owned volunteer service. The following year, the Brooklyn Children's Museum held an exhibit on the contributions made by blacks and Jews in New York. In 1993, the Rev. Jesse Jackson was active in promoting improved black-Jewish relations.

Neither ONE of men you mentioned HAD anything to do with the riot and killing of Mr Rosenbaum. Al Sharpton did say some nasty things at the funeral of the black child. It seems that the neighborhood where that happened decided to work together and to move past it.

The fact that that happened over 20 years ago and that you are blaming 2 men that had NOTHING to with it, speaks to the bias that others here have pointed out.

Those two fools have enriched themselves over nothing . Most recently Trayvon Martin . They are a blight on the black community .

I'm back, because a lot of these comments intrigue me.

Joe, if I may. You have the right to make those comments. Would you not agree that everyone else has a right to potentially be offended by those comments and say so, possibly to your face?

I don't recall stating or implying that you were unamerican, or that being racist was unamerican. Where did you get that?

Same place he got that everyone thinks he should be silenced and lose his first amendment rights.

EPIC FAIL heres what Iwas replying to with the buckwheat statement To prove he was wrong andthere were other black people on tv before thje seventies (. When BET came out every other station was WET. Magazines were the same. You NEVER saw a black face in ANY woman's magazine. That is why there is an Ebony, and Black Entertainment TV. You don't remember when Dihanne Carroll starred in her own TV show? She was the first black woman to have her own show. Even when Bill Cosby was on I Spy it was a big deal. I can't imagine being black before the 70s, when every time you turned on the tv or went to the movies you say EXCLUSIVELY people who did not look like you, unless they were a maid.}

A "leftist white woman"? LOL. Good grief, you can take the man out of Long Island, but you can't take the Long Island out of the man! You are a very typical white working class LI man. You were replying to my asking you to imagine growing up and never seeing a black face on television. "Buckwheat" was your "hey HE was black!" moment. Social justice is communism? Joe, I think you're probably on the wrong forum to post your political opinions, better stick to debunking on this forum. For other issues, may I suggest Stormfront.org, you might feel more at home there. Of course YOU better not be of Italian, Greek or some other mediterranean heritage, they don't allow them there.

Those two fools have enriched themselves over nothing . Most recently Trayvon Martin . They are a blight on the black community .

I don't care for Sharpton and less for Jackson, but what do they have to do with you making racist comments? Pat Robertson, David Dukes, Rush Limbaugh, all white and all idiots who have enriched themselves over nothing. THey come in all colors you know.

[h=3]Freddie's Fashion Mart[/h]In 1995 a black Pentecostal Church, the United House of Prayer, which owned a retail property on 125th Street, asked Fred Harari, a Jewish tenant who operated Freddie's Fashion Mart, to evict his longtime subtenant, a black-owned record store called The Record Shack. Sharpton led a protest in Harlem against the planned eviction of The Record Shack.Sharpton told the protesters, "We will not stand by and allow them to move this brother so that some white interloper can expand his business.
On December 8, 1995 Roland J. Smith Jr., one of the protesters, entered Harari's store with a gun and flammable liquid, shot several customers and set the store on fire. The gunman fatally shot himself, and seven store employees died of smoke inhalation.Fire Department officials discovered that the store's sprinkler had been shut down, in violation of the local fire code. Sharpton claimed that the perpetrator was an open critic of himself and his nonviolent tactics. Sharpton later expressed regret for making the racial remark, "white interloper," and denied responsibility for inflaming or provoking the violence.

It cheapens the charge of real racism .
Which one of those to you seem racist in full context to what I was replying to ? Offending someone isnt racist . If that were the case I can pick apart a lot of people who made statements that someone else would find offensive . Many of them toward a group of people . I can scan this forum and post some if youd like . My point is PC is killing our country I believe as planned . If we dont learn to address these issues things will never improve . I think its mostly politically Im opposite of most on this forum is more of the problem .

That was a nasty incident, but it was several years after the Crown Heights riots. Al Sharpton is a radical, and he is NO more a representative of most black American, than David Duke is of white ones. We have a local gadfly, that neither my hubby or I can stand. We keep trying to vote him out of office.

There is more to that story than you shared, (and than is normally shown on right wing sites)

One can conclude that that was so, but it had I don't believe any impact at all on a very demented man who was homeless, who was once a vendor on 125th Street and had been forced out of the only employment he had by a mayor's desire to get 400 vendors off 125th Street, and if this were the kind of hate crime that has been described, then of the 350 merchants on 125th Street, more than half of them are white, and there has been no such incident at any other store.

While not an unbiased site, this one has a decent explanation of what happened.

The folks that denied that the target on Gilford's photo had anything to do with her shooting, seem to have something in common with Sharpton.

It seems that the person that did the crime was suffering from mental illness (he had been on of the street vendors) and the loss of his 'job'.

It seems to me to be in the same class as blaming guns for shootings. The ultimate responsibility is with the person that decides to do wrong.

at least you didnt call me a NAZI . Your in denial . You cheapen the real meaning of racism .

But Rush is a fool and tool as well. And a drugie--talk about a rich guy getting off the hook. If he had been poor, he would still be doing time, and you know that

Why does the concept behind political correctness produce a negative reaction?

There's two meanings to the phrase to my mind.

Firstly, it means to practice sensitivity to the different groups of people that make up a society.
To think culture is made up of one dominant group with lots of lesser groups that don't have to be payed any regard is the behaviour it seeks to change by increasing awareness of the unexamined prejudices inherent in the 'dominant' culture and increasing basic familiarity with difference so it doesn't produce an automatic reaction against the 'strange'.
It seems the phrase 'political correctness' doesn't really accurately reflect what the intent is here, but it has come to be associated with this sort of awareness campaign (perhaps a negative propaganda technique by groups who feel marginalised by empathy).

Opportunistic 'political correctness' (which is perhaps the more accurate use of the phrase) is insincere lip-service payed for political reasons - to APPEAR tolerant and empathic. That's worth being bothered by.
Increasing our knowledge of the situations of others isn't.

But Rush is a fool and tool as well. And a drugie--talk about a rich guy getting off the hook. If he had been poor, he would still be doing time, and you know that
Thats your opinion . Thats ok . Id love to see a debate with Sharptongue and Rush .

I don't really see where this thread is going. You don't see anything wrong with white men (mostly) calling others nasty names. but you can't stand the idea that anyone considers them (or you a racist).

Where is the embarrassment?

Going back to the first few posts, it seems that the existence of 'white privilege' is being disputed, and it is still believed that there is a government sponsored initiative to push 'white guilt', even though the original bracelet thing is debunked.
It seems more like resentment at being shown a truth that one would rather ignore.
And pointing out that others suffer unique forms of oppression that you don't doesn't mean no-one thinks you don't suffer your own, it's simply drawing attention to them.
It's in the context of bringing awareness to something that was assumed didn't exist that is the point.

Who in America is being Oppressed today ? White privilege being pushed is fact . Why should Americans today be made to feel guilty for something that happened in the past ? I can understand they be taught that so as to make sure it never happens again . But to make one feel as if they were to blame for someone elses suffering because the happen to be white is wrong ! Obama the great divider is what he will be know for in the past .

Because the advantages you have now are built upon the oppression of others - you are benefiting from actions that these days would be seen as immoral and illega.

Therefore it behoves you to use those benefits to help alleviate the ills that helped create tehm.

It is pretty basic morals......even for an atheist!

Joe, you are hopeless, you really can't see the forest for the trees.

You seem to approve of Rush. Here are some of his statements. I left out the sexist ones.

. “The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies.”

“Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?”

“Let the unskilled jobs that take absolutely no knowledge whatsoever to do — let stupid and unskilled Mexicans do that work.”

“They’re 12 percent of the population. Who the hell cares?” [referring to African-Americans]

[To an African American female caller]: “Take that bone out of your nose and call me back.”

. I mean, let’s face it, we didn’t have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: slavery built the South. I’m not saying we should bring it back; I’m just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark.

You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray [the confessed assassin of Martin Luther King]. We miss you, James. Godspeed.

What advantages do I have today that were built by Oppression ???? You Didnt build that ? sounds like a Obama Quote ? I understand your point but everybody before us has not had the advatages we have today . Its not just the great inventors its our ancestors of all colors . Its the young immigrant who worked 16 hrs in a sweat shop at the turn of the century . What does past oppression have to do with today anyway ? What if I just moved here to america 20 years ago ?

I check Snopes and the 12% comment they couldnt find any reference to . Youd have to also add all of the context to make it fair . Would you like me to add some from the left side of the political spectrum ? You should try his Ice tea its very good and its not Racist :)http://www.twoifbytea.com/

[h=3]Dr. Ben Carson Responds To Toure, Critics: Obviously, I Am Not An "Uncle Tom" [/h]

Youd have to also add all of the context to make it fair .

Reminds me of a Woody Allen movie Deconstructing Harry. This is probably not exactly correct, but it goes along these lines:

Scene is two old ladies. One is telling the other a long story about Max, who murdered his wife and his neighbors and their children, with an ax. Then he ATE them. The second old lady says "whatever you do. . . . first hear Max's side". The first one says "The man has a SIDE?"

Sometimes there is no context.
