It can be because each tab is treated as its own instance in tasks. So depending on how much RAM you have and what you're doing Chrome can be a bit of a resource whore.

I'm "bad' about sometimes keeping a few extra pages open. RAM is 4 GB. However, as I think I mentioned....after a re-boot, all is back to "normal".
On a "side-note"....I recently bought an old computer game ("Riven") and it will not run on Windows 7 (64-bit). Have tried to "emulate" Windows 95 or XP....(to be "32" or even "16" bit) but no luck, so far. (I think I see that Windows 8 is backwards-compatible, but not certain).
Still Googling 'furiously' to find solutions. MIGHT have to resort to CraigsList, and just buy a friggin' OLD computer!!! (LOL!)
EDIT....actually, my Condo's CPU is running XP....it is managing the camera security in the garage, and I'm the maintenance "guy". I could probably upgrade that CPU, with the camera program re-installed into a new Tower (which I would have to buy)....and THEN use that XP OS to run my game.....Nah!!! WAY too complicated as a plan.......easier to just bring some speakers down there, and plug them in, then insert the game disc.

Just going by forum questions and issues on some slightly older macs. Safari's relatively optimised resource-wise.

I have tried 'Safari' as a browser option....albeit "within" the Windows OS, so maybe it wasn't a "fair" game....but, I didn't like it very much.
"Firefox" is good....I've used that with much success.....but I've come to Chrome over the last few years and maybe....I could be WRONG! I've just been familiar with it. Maybe I was "sucked in" (Because....let me tell you....originally, YEARS ago it was I.E. and ONLY I.E......and now? I won't bother with IE...not a whiff.
I chose "Chrome" because I wanted my mother...my ELDERLY mother to learn how to use a computer, and basic e-mail (etc). "Chrome" seemed to be one of the better "User Friendly" systems. Their e-mail format, etc.
Yeah....I can navigate other OS but I stick with Chrome...because I can help my Mother if she has a question...just from my recent familiarity.

I've moved to Opera as a browser, it works very well.
It doesn't have the ridiculous memory leak issue Safari does (if java script is enabled it will just continue eating up memory till you run out), I can copy-paste images easily, and the CPU usage is minimal (Firefox frequently uses over 100% especially with flash video).
Has all the usual extensions - except last pass doesn't seem to work on it, though there are alternatives.
Recommended if you're on a mac and having browser issues.

Tried it too. Not bad....but, "Stick-in-the-mud" that I am, and with my gmail and all....Chrome is "comfortable" so far.
Still, it's good to consider options....BUT? I.E.?? "Fuggitabout it!!" Don't even bother....(Sorry, Microsoft. I.E. sux).

I have a problem that started a day ago (or so).
I'm also using Opera, and upon trying to connect to Metabunk, I now receive an error from the browser:
"The secure transaction could not be completed".
A more detailed text below states:
"The identity of the web site could not be confirmed (OCSP error).
The reply from the remote server for certificate validation (OCSP) was too old".
(My translation from German)
For some reason, Firefox connects O.K.

For some reason, Firefox connects O.K.
Sounds like your Opera has old security certificates. I might just be a temporary thing, or you might need to update Opera.
I use Cloudlare for secure connections (SSL), so the certificate is a shared one they issue. They are working on some SSL improvements, so it might be on their end.
If you try again, and let me know what time, I can maybe get a bit more info from the logs.

I just retried and it is working again, so I guess someone must have been tampering with SSL.
However, I confess that I still use Opera 12.17 due to the unmatched configurability ...

I just clicked a metabunk link in chrome and it says "you must be logged in to do that"... im not trying to post I just wanted to view the page. but its not letting me.

Depends on who you ask.. The one thing ALMOST everyone agrees on is that IE blows. The others.. just really depend on what you need/want in a browser. I love Chrome, but I use Opera and FireFox as well.

maybe. but I never have the issues you all seem to have. the only thing that doesn't work on IE is I can't see bullets.

thats why I said almost hon. There are ppl out there that love IE and use it all the time. The vast majority of people that use browsers for more than checking email, or playing games etc (not referring to you) prefer something that responds more quickly and has fewer security loop holes (malware, viruses etc). IE tends to be slow to respond, it crashes a lot (especially if you have several tabs open at a time) and can take forever to load web pages. The large majority of IE users dont have a problem with that and dont mind, but people that use the internet a lot, or are advanced users (programmers etc) tend to prefer non IE browsers. Then you have ppl that just like the bells and whistles.. I like Chrome because its very basic. but thats a personal choice. I use FF and Opera for other things besides surfing and HTML>.

My best friend still uses IE. There are times I spend a couple or more nights with her and I can not hardly use her computer. I would like to be able to have FB, my browser based game and one or 2 other tabs open, but I run out of memory. She has XP pro
At home, I am using an older computer--coming up on 9 years old with XP and I can have 20 tabs open at home. Any suggestions?

The only thing you can really do Cairenn is increase the RAM in your computer, or try to increase your virtual RAM
How to set up Virtual RAM in XP
VRAM uses your HDD (If I remember correctly) instead of your hardware RAM, but it can slow things down and eat up a LOT of HDD space if you're not careful. The link above may help.

A few easy thing you can do first.
Get her to switch to Chrome or Firefox or if she's still on IE7 then at least upgrade to 8. Make sure she has plenty of disk space. Check she has Service Pack 3 too just in case, I still occasionally come across an old XP PC that doesn't.

I'm seeing the occasional thread highlighted as having new content even though I've viewed it. For example

Is there a reason why you prefer people to login or become a member to view chit chat and rambles? Can you view chit chat and rambles if you are a non member?
It's to de-clutter the public face of Metabunk. So first time visitors don't just see a bunch of chitchat. You have to be a member to log in.

I'm not sure if this is specific to Metabunk or just an iOS/Safari issue, but I find it quite tricky to compose lengthy replies on my iPhone. If the reply is longer than will fit in the visible screen, then trying to place the cursor into the text doesn't work properly - it jumps back up to a point near the beginning and it's impossible to get the insertion point where I want it.
I've had to compose messages in the Notes app to get round this.

I've been dealing with the same issue since I joined in april. It's a real nuisance to be honest with you. I have to keep scrolling down to see what I'm typing, and if I decide to rotate my phone it takes me back to the top of the page, but won't let me type again unless I put the cursor somewhere in the present window and hit space bar, then it will open up the entire message so I can scroll down to where I left off..
I'm afraid this is likely something specific to the forum software I'm using Xenforo. So there's not too much I can do about it. I'll certainly look into it though, as I don't want to put off mobile users, as that's about half the visitors here.

Hama, this happens to me a few times a month at least. It comes and goes and I've gotten used to it.
With respect to time zones, usually when I'm on the forum its EST for me because I live in NJ, but a few times (late in the evening or at night) I've noticed the times were all messed up. I'd be on my laptop at 10pm and see messages posting times that were well after 10pm, or a few hours ealier. I just figured it was something to do internally not recognizing which time zone I was in or vice versa.
Curiously, if someone is on their computer in California it shows times from that time zone (right?)..
