North magnetic pole moved 160 miles in 6 months?

There is a claim going around that the north magnetic pole which has recently been moving at an accelerated rate of 40 miles per year has now increased to 160 miles in 6 months (I can't find a source for that)!

This YouTuber reckons it will be positioned in Siberia in 2 years time. Furthermore he claims that global weather changes are related to the change of position of the magnetic pole:

Sorry Fuzzy that made me laugh. I know you are UK but I went to a really unusal school in Hull called Trinity House http://www.hthacademy.org.uk/. All public funded but aimed at lads wanting to go to sea. We did an O level in Navigation (1980's) and we were told Magnetic North was somewhere in Canada. The middle of a lake I think. So add on a few years I wonder where it is now. Its like Where's Wally but with a dip needle.

Looks like it's one of the many rectally-produced assertions in the video provided, since all the sites I see repeating the claim link to that same clip. How he arrived at that figure is apparently a mystery. He mentions "calculations", "experiments", and his "theory" in passing but never actually elaborates.

While he doesn't show his work, so to speak, I certainly question his ability to perform measurements -- given that he claims the Sun is setting 40° "off" from where it's "supposed to be". And nobody else noticed. (That bit actually made me laugh out loud.)

I think he's simply exaggerating previous reports while injecting his own brand of pseudoscience, and fishing for PayPal donations in the process. Even if we began to see telltale signs of a magnetic polar reversal, that process takes thousands of years to complete, so why worry?

P.S.: I'd file this one under "psuedoscience" rather than CT.

I have a little hobby of taking photos of oil tankers just north of my house. I can attest that the sun is setting exactly where it is supposed to at this time of year, just east of the oil platform. I do specifically notice, as it makes me so happy to see, it means it's SUMMER!!!!

Like the pic JR but I don't think the magnetic pole shift affects where the Sun sets does it?

I watched a documentary on this some time back and they had to put extra shielding on some satellites because the magnetic field was/is so weak in certain places that it failed to protect the instruments from solar winds. A Japanes scientist claims there are crystals within the Earth that are 10km long and that they are pos & neg charged at the ends and aligned in such a way to create the magnetosphere, which is indeed moving and could 'tip' and reverse at any time; as it has done a number of times in the distant past.

Ah... found a link.

I don't think so either, but some CTers are claiming the sun does not set where it's "supposed to" due to the magnetic shift.

Human psychology truly is fascinating. Assuming the guy's videos aren't just a chain-yank, it's fascinating to observe and deconstruct his attempt at reasoning:

1) The sun (always!) rises in the east and sets in the west.
2) West = 270°.
3) The sunset azimuth on June 1st was definitely not 270°.
4) Therefore, something is wrong with the sun/earth/solar system/etc.
5) And nobody else noticed.

I'm not sure what bothers me more: that progression, or the that the answers to such astronomical conundrums are only a few clicks away...

My house seems to be set facing directly north. On the equinoxes the sun come directly in my west window and since the TV is directly opposite it, I have a major glare issue if I don't cover the window with something light blocking. It happens for about the week that included the equinoxes.

Can we be sure that the poles actually exist? I found this site and it is really suspicious. A company selling poles? mmmmmm http://www.jonam.co.uk/visibilistix.html

I bet they use them for putting all those False Flags on.
That is fake fake fake!!!! There is no way you could have a positively charged red one, anywhere near as close to a neg charged green one without a huge explosion.:)

These folks have such a small worldview. Tens of thousands of daily solar observations and magnetic compass readings are taken every day by ships during navigation or else they would be running around in circles and heading off course towards collisions.

Indeed. I also shudder to think of the abject ignorance which leads someone to believe NASA (or any one governmental agency) has a planetary monopoly on facilities, observations or data.

The fossil record shows that the magnetic poles do move and even flip from time to time. The field of magnetic stratigrophy studies it. That is fact. What is not known is the time scale that these events happen. The resolving power of magnetic rocks in the fossil record does not lend to fine detail. Perhaps the poles shift in spurts, or in minute gradual increments. Maybe they just flip like a tossed coin

The easy way to settle this is to buy a compas at the camping store and start to log data. If the poles are moving as rapidly as some claim, we can see it for ourselves. Sit at home and log where in your house the needle points north. Check in 6 month increments. Does it point to a new piece of furniture? I'm guessing it won't, but it is one theory we all can test. Just make sure you are away from large metal objects or strong EM fields like TVs or singularity wormhole generators. Lol
