Rep. Luna Requests UAP Video, With a List of Names.

Note, Gaetz says "interracial alien mating". Immature pulp horror stuff. Made me shudder.
"Interracial" is presumably meant to mean "interspecies".

To be fair, Gaetz is not necessarily saying there is any validity to the claim, he's just sharing a story told to him by a supposed constituent. The guy wondered into his Florida office and regaled Gaetz and his staff with the claim. The context of the clip isn't clear. I got the feeling that Santos used that clip because it was more fringe.

. Interbreeding would be less likely than a human breeding with a volvox.
First read that as "...with a Volvo," which is an equally true statement!

I'll quibble with you very slightly, in that given that UFOs are craft piloted by biological beings, UFOlogy embraces the idea that they might be related to us -- beings from the future, etc. In which case they might be in the same Kingdom, Phylum, Class, etc. down to about the level of Family. But, assuming they are as seen in the consensus description that has emerged once the Internet allowed us all to talk with each other and agree on what UFO aliens look like, they are clearly not the same Genus and species as us. That should still be sufficient to make the "they're here to mate with us!" argument impossible.

Of course, if they are from Omicron Persei 8 or Zeta Reticuli, then your point is entirely valid and the argument goes from being impossible to super-duper impossible with a cherry on top.

The persistence of the sexual component of UFO abduction cases at least since the Vilas-Boas case* of 1957. I suspect this stems from the association between, on the one hand, sleep paralysis and incubus/succubus lore, and the UFO abduction claim phenomenon.

That, and of course "sex sells," and if one is making a living promoting UFO claims a little hot alien-human action helps keep it all interesting when the evidence starts to wear thin...

*Quick recap of the relevant part of the Vilas-Boas case, for those not familiar:

On October 15, 1957, (Antonio Vilas-Boas) was ploughing fields near São Francisco de Sales when he saw what he described as a "red star" in the night sky. According to his story, this "star" approached his position, growing in size until it became recognizable as a roughly circular or egg-shaped aerial craft, with a red light at its front and a rotating cupola on top. The craft began descending to land in the field, extending three "legs" as it did so. At that point, Boas decided to run from the scene.

According to Boas, he first attempted to leave the scene on his tractor, but when its lights and engine died after traveling only a short distance, he decided to continue on foot.[7] However, he was seized by a 5-foot-tall (150 cm) humanoid, who was wearing grey coveralls and a helmet. Its eyes were small and blue, and instead of speech it made noises like barks or yelps. Three similar beings then joined the first in subduing Boas, and they dragged him inside their craft.
...
Shortly after this, Boas claimed that he was joined in the room by another humanoid. This one, however, was female, very attractive, and naked. She was the same height as the other beings he had encountered, with a small, pointed chin and large, blue catlike eyes. The hair on her head was long and white (somewhat like platinum blonde) but her underarm and pubic hair were bright red.[8] Boas said he was strongly attracted to the woman, and the two had sexual intercourse. During this act, Boas noted that the female did not kiss him but instead nipped him on the chin.

When it was all over, the female smiled at Boas, rubbing her belly and gestured upwards.[9] Boas took this to mean that she was going to raise their child in space.

(There don't seem to be a lot of abduction cases at all any more, though, or am I missing them?)

This subject is back in the public eye at the moment because a few congress members are talking about it. Some people simply get a bigger megaphone than others, and elected officials are among those with more than their share of attention. But elected officials are part of the general public, so it is not at all surprising that there ate UFO believers sitting in high office. I'm sure if you polled congress you'd find a number who believe in Bigfoot, literal demons, or ghosts.

But the UFO thing is full of claims that "could be true, if only they'd let us see those crashed spacecraft". If they're shown an empty warehouse, they could always claim they showed you the wrong one. Officials who now have a bit of power might be the ones to know, but the supposed evidence always seems to be out of reach.

Congress is hardly demographically representative, far from it. However I would agree that the filters it selects for (being the son of a rich white daddy, for example) don't necessarily imply any greater somewhat-misnamed "common sense" than the general public.

Right. Burlison goes on little tours of warehouses / facilities, and they are empty, but the claim is that the craft used to be there, but it was moved away in advance of the visit or Burlison doesn't have a need to know or something. It really is getting kinda farcical.
<edit> would make a very funny off-Broadway play! :p

I can understand that if the warehouses are empty it's suspicious - it must be because they had just moved the alien craft elsewhere...
and therefore if the warehouses have mundane-looking contents it must be because they had to fill the empty space from moving the alien craft elsewhere, as empty space is suspicious.

Checkmate, skeptics! (Ooops, sorry, this is not the humour thread.)

Can't you see a stage where Burlison is having an aside addressing the audience about how he will find UFOs, while behind him a UFO is quickly being wheeled away, and he turns around to an empty room?

As a Brit, I'm quite familiar with farce.

Whether I'm referring to comedic theatre or recent politics will remain a question I shall not answer.

(EDIT: however, "how recent is recent?" I am prepared to answer: at least as long as you might expect, and then double that.)

Apparently Burlison had been communicating with some pastors about UFOs. From Pavel:

Burlison has set the record straight in a tweet:

I have had many people ask me to respond to what the internet has said about what a person has said what he says that I said. Really?!
I would remind people to listen to what I have already stated publicly. Which is basically the following:
I do NOT know what the strange objects in the skies are and I certainly do NOT know their origins. I was asked to call in by phone to a conference/meeting of theologians. I could not tell you all that was said at that meeting because I was not there and did not hear much of what was said. When I had a chance to speak, I expressed my views which is that we Christians tend to get dug into our personal world views even if they have nothing to do with what has actually been written in the Bible. It would be wise for Christians to stick to what the Bible says, and not what they think it says. If, and that is a big IF, disclosure occurs of any type then it will be all the more important for us Christians to be educated in our own scriptures.
Until that time I will continue to seek the truth whatever it may be.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

So the pastor is lying. (This is why I find that sort of American Christianity so disgusting. Everything about them are fake. It's just a grift.)

Regarding the video as a whole, that people with delusional beliefs say delusional things to a gullible audience is quite literally a no-brainer.

You could substitute the word "disclosure" with "rapture" (now an almost solely american concept, despite its anglo-irish roots), and their intended audiences would barely understand that a rug-pull had been performed on them. We've already seen several cases of the conflation of these concepts.

However, I'd be willing to bet a large chunk of them wouldn't be able to accurately tell you exactly which version of rapture (e.g. rapture-then-tribulation-then-second coming, or rapture=second-coming, or fence-sitting smoosh-up of those two) they believe in so earnestly. I get the feeling that most of the rank-and-file believers find the post-tribulationist view (christ comes here, sending us to heaven) more comforting (let's forget the bit about whether we die in the process or not, that's also a schism that exists); however, the disclosure narrative aligns much more closely with the pre-tribulationist view that rapture will start a period of unrest, and the second coming will only come after that's over. Immunity to cognitive dissonance will be a useful trait for effortlessly handling this contradiction.
