So the range is obviously not a calculated number in the GOFAST video to the point on the ground the sensor is looking at as the range is less than the altitude of the aircraft. There is speculation that this range is either a radar supplied figure (Radars are very good at calculating range if there is a solid return), or in the case of a ground target, a laser range finder estimate. You can't tell from the information provided where the range came from in GOFAST. I would take it as an estimate that may or may not be in the ballpark.

The documentation for the ATFLIR indicates that the Laser Rangefinder is only used in A/G mode and we are A/A in Go Fast.

Also when in A/G mode and firing the laser range finder LTD/R flashes on the overlay to indicate this.

So where does it come from if not a RADAR track?
