Claim BUK launcher trucked out of Ukraine

OK, thanks a lot. That would mean 15:33 UTC or 18:33 EEST (local time Ukraine).

Yes that would be the time for my post on the 23rd July 2014. According to the info on the screen grab the Twitter post was made at 16:06PM on 17th July 2014. The person that posted it is claiming that the footage was shot at 11:40AM on the 17th July 2014.

Freelance journalist Billy Six films at the Luhansk location for the Buk on a truck video. He also claims to have met the person that filmed the original video.

On 30th of January 2015 I met the person who told me they had made this video. I don´t want to mention the exact flat in order not to endanger those people. But I can say that it was from 4th floor of the Soviet style apartment buildings overlooking the road. From a window in the corridor I was able to have a look, and it nearly matched from there. I made a video from here.

Then, according to your time zone, the posting time of the tweet by Andrej would be 16:06 BST = 15:06 UTC = 18:06 EEST. That is, assuming your Twitter time zone settings at the time of the screenshot were BST as well. Could you confirm on that? It would mean the video has been published quite soon after the downing of MH17 (16:20 EEST).

You are assuming that I took the screenshot directly from my Twitter account. I took the screen shot from one of the websites that were reporting on it at the time.

Perhaps Eliot Higgins on Bellingcat can assist? Perhaps he has the time of the original upload to You Tube of the video by the Twitter poster? The original upload has since been taken down.

It doesn't really matter what time the video was released or tweeted on in my opinion. People were reporting and tweeting on the movements of all different types of equipment and it was nothing unusual.

On the 17th July at least two different posters on Twitter were reporting on Buk being moved.

To me it does: I try to establish when what was published by whom. Since you didn't make the screenshot from Twitter the timestamp visible can't be established precisely. I know about the tweets and all the other materials.
See my extensive report here: http://www.whathappenedtoflightmh17.com/what-you-see-is-all-there-is/

It's probably the buk that Lysenko spoke about. If so it's from before the Bellingcat timeline.

Bellingcat's timeline is all wrong, which is why the buk did not show up in the satellite photo they bought.
But there was a buk around earlier.
Here is the news conference from July 17 2014

[21:04] Question: On social networks, info is shared about BUK rockets, spotted near Snizhne. They are not Ukrainian ones. Can you comment on this?

Lysenko: We’ve got info, not only about this rocket system. We realize that it’s a very serious weapon and our Air Force and Intelligence will do their best to destroy these systems, so let’s wait and see. We have this information.

[21:41] Question: I would like you to clarify. So, can you confirm about this BUK, that it can hit airplanes ?

Lysenko: We’ve got information that some rockets complexes have passed into Ukraine territory, which can hit planes from high altitude. There was even a video how these BUK rockets drove through Luhansk. We know this.

Also the truck is not part of any convoy.

Of course it is a convoy you can see the escort vehicles. Note that the guide escort vehicles in front with their hazard warning lights flashing. This is the Buk before the shoot down still with all missiles on the TELAR.

In summary, the new video provides interesting new details about the July 17th 2014 Buk convoy composition and route.

An interesting detail that provides further validity to the link to the previous videos are the escort vehicles that can be seen before and after the truck. Bellingcat has previously reported about the vehicles, and we can direct matches: there is a Toyota RAV4 in front of the truck, with a UAZ-469AZ and VW Transporter following it.

You are right I should have been clearer.
Bellingcat's story first has the buk as part of a convoy with military vehicles. The Vostok convoy. Then it has the buk driving under its own steam, not on any truck and then it has it as part of a group of other vehicles. So I meant the other convoy mentioned in tweets etc., called the Vostok convoy

Something with all this doesn't add up

Please note that Twitter displays time local to the viewer. When I view the original tweet it would read 02:16 AM CEST, which is 00:16 UTC, July 17th and as such 03:16 EEST July 17th would then be the time in Ukraine. Was it a night time crossing? The tweet captured in that image implies UTC-1 or in winter time UTC/GMT (eg U.K.).

There are factors like settings for logged in users and modified PC time. But the indication is that the screen capture was made abroad or by someone preferring UTC.

The Twit by Wowihay is still online

Timestamp for me is 02:16am, I'm viewing in the UK so if that is my local time that'd be 04:16am Ukraine time.

I've tried changing both my local clock and the time zone and the time stamp stays the same. Twitter may be using my IP/location, but the PC clock doesn't appear to be a factor.

ETA - Interesting - the embed here at Metabunk (above) has a time stamp of 10:16am.

Cheers for that. So 12:16pm was the actual time of the post? Ukraine being GMT +2 and +1 for DST.

Edit - my Twitter time was set to UTC -7, set it to BST and I now see 10:16 too.

Shows how much I use Twitter, never even realised it had a time zone setting.

Prosecutors conducting the criminal investigation into the downing of flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine two years ago have published a photo of part of a Buk missile found at the crash site.

The international Joint Investigation Team (JIT) image shows a venturi tube, which is part of the exhaust system.

Dutch prosecutors have said the investigation was at "a very advanced stage" and that they would present their conclusions after the summer.
