Black exhaust, contrail, or chemtrail?

Saw 4 of these planes emitting this black exhaust during a flight from San Francisco to Atlanta Ga. All where in an hour space of time. We where flying at 38,000ft. Mid morning. Also saw plenty of other planes emitting the normal white contrail. Any explanations??IMG_20150321_002734.jpg

It's a contrail. It's all to do with lighting conditions, for example here's a photo I took a few minutes ago (8AM local time)

There are white clouds and dark grey clouds, but really the clouds are all the same color, just lit differently.

This phenomenon has been discussed here previously in the following threads:
https://www.metabunk.org/threads/new-black-chemtrail-video.2914/ (in particular, see post #103 for a scientific explanation);
https://www.metabunk.org/threads/debunked-look-up-org-uks-smokers-video.3220/

It is a normal contrail. It looks dark due to a particular combination of conditions: (1) it is front-lit by a hazy sunshine, that is, the Sun is behind the observer; (2) it is observed from a plane flying at a high altitude with a much greater volume of atmosphere at the background than in the ground observations. I'll elaborate on these later.

Like other clouds, contrails are made of tiny ice crystals which are colourless. The colour (shade of grey) of a contrail is due to the scattering of sunlight on these crystals and depends on the amount of light it scatters toward the observer relative the amount of light coming from the contrail's background.

From an article in 1962. Taken from The Sixth Seat. Riding on a Victor Training Sortie by Humphrey Wynn

Most of our flying was at about 40,000ft (allowing for the difference
in quadrantal heights) and at that altitude the sky was quite
busy: once a Boeing 707 passed above us, at right-angles to our
track, heading south-eastwards, drawing from Fit Lt Lewis the
dry observation that he didn't think Anglia Control "were giving
us value for money today"; later a Vulcan shot below us on a
reciprocal in a wash of contrails, which at those altitudes look black
.

Here is an illustration of the phenomenon shot by myself. The sun was just setting and it is twilight. The sun is on the left hand side of the screen. A 1.07 you can see the two trails. The left hand one (as viewed) is visibly lighter than the right hand one.

Why? Because it is receiving more light. The left contrail itself is block the main light source at this time.

Note that if this was a chemtrail I was being very cavalier with the safety of everyone aboard. Fortunately there is no such thing. :)

Harold Saive has uploaded a "Smokers Black Carbon Chemtrails" video. No wonder he disables comments on his videos. The claims are just mind numbing.

This window camera captures a dangerously close pass by a rogue aircraft releasing persistent chemical trails that appear to be released out of direct proximity to the engine exhaust. This risky stunt manoeuvre would be a violation of FAA rules for traffic separation.

He makes further claims of rogue aircraft in the video.
