Update on Google Earth Pro desktop app downloads

Announcement
Hi Google Earth Community,

We're continuing to make Google Earth on web and mobile (Android | iOS) the best place for people to get helpful geospatial insights. While you can continue using the legacy Google Earth Pro desktop app, it will no longer be available for new downloads beginning on June 25, 2027. We encourage using web and mobile for the best Google Earth experience.
Google Earth Pro has long been a useful (free) tool for the OSINT community. But it's going away over the next year or so.

The Web version does not seem very suited to the types of POV recreations that we need. You can't easily put the camera at one spot and look at another with a particular FOV. Since Sitrec has added the 3D buildings, I've really not used GE that much. I don't see myself using the web version at all.

What do y'all use Google Earth Pro for? What does it do that Sitrec does not? If GE were to vanish tomorrow, then what features would you miss the most?

The main thing I'd use it for these days is the polygons that show in street view, although it was of limited use given the distance limits.

Also it was a useful tool in the harder geo location work with the location bookmarks and historical maps data, in cases like the Skywatcher filming locations and Lue's center pivot irrigation defined fields.

I'm sure little things will crop up once it's no longer working, it doesn't sound like it's going away fully yet though I'm sure it will at some point, better archive the installer somewhere I guess

Sitrec now has a limited Street View, designed for syncing up a specific location. Still a bit of a work in progress, but I'll improve it as needed.
