Debunked: The Claim That the Envelope Was Found in the Lanza Home

As part of the State’s investigation of the shooting, a sealed and stamped white envelope addressed “For the young students of Sandy Hook Elementary School,” was removed from the Lanza home and entered into evidence.

Both finger print and DNA testing was performed on this sealed envelope. No finger prints were found on the envelope but, more importantly, Adam and Nancy Lanza were eliminated as possible contributors to the DNA found. A positive DNA profile was identified. Whose DNA was found?

According to the Police investigation “the DNA profiles from items #3G1 (swabbing of envelope flap) and #4-2S2 (swabbing .22 caliber cartridges) were searched against the Connecticut and National DNA Databases. On January 7, 2013, a hit was obtained with the Convicted Offender DNA profile from New York State Police Investigation Center DB#Y10011106A.”

After long battle for access, Sandy Hook letter offers little: http://wtnh.com/2014/10/01/after-long-battle-for-access-sandy-hook-letter-offers-little (Archive: https://archive.today/1vGJw)

Thanks to News 8 Investigators, we now see the envelope and its content: Christmas greeting card with a handwritten letter inside. The envelope consisting the Christmas greeting card was sent to Sandy Hook Elementary School. The envelope has it addressed for the young students of Sandy Hook Elementary School, with Newtown, Connecticut instead of the school's address of 12 Dickinson Drive, Sandy Hook, Connecticut 06482. Someone who has previously contacted Lt. Vance, said that he stated: "The letter was not from the Lanza home. It was sent to the school, and so it was tested, after all of this happened." This clears up the assumption made that the envelope was found in the Lanza home.

The envelope has 16 DEC 2012 on it. In addition, the letter inside the Christmas greeting card includes: "Please accept my apologies for the terrible crime committed against your former classmates by my irrational son, Adam." Therefore, this was done after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting occurred.

The envelope and the letter inside the Christmas greeting card was made to have people believe that it came from Peter Lanza, father of shooter Adam Lanza. However, comparing the handwriting on the envelope/letter inside the Christmas greeting card to a handwritten letter Peter wrote inside a birthday greeting card to Adam, it is clear that the envelope and the letter inside the Christmas greeting card were not written by Peter Lanza.

As the article states: "Sources tell the News 8 Investigators that the card was not sent by Peter Lanza and they ruled out Adam Lanza as well, based on DNA testing. The only match they found was an unnamed felon living in New York. The card was postmarked from New York City."

The envelope was sealed when it was found, as noted on page 12 of CFS 1200705354/Sec 12 - CT State Police Forensic Laboratory Reports.pdf:

Specifically, has the Commission made an effort to obtain additional information about the sealed, stamped envelope found in the Lanza home and addressed “For the young students of Sandy Hook Elementary School?” DNA testing of the envelope revealed that Nancy and Adam Lanza were ruled out as DNA contributors. The DNA did, however, match that of a convicted offender in New York.

Has the Commission addressed this issue? Has the Commission been made aware of the contents of that envelope and, if so, will that information be made available to the public? Clearly, one cannot help but wonder if the information found in this envelope may shed some light on the motive behind the attack.

The envelope was of great importance to the State Police. Out of the thousands of pieces of paper removed from the Lanza home, it was this piece of evidence that was finger printed and tested for DNA. Why? Is the Commission even curious about the envelope’s contents? http://ablechild.org/2014/08/12/is-...ommission-at-variance-with-the-police-report/[/bunk]

By 'unnamed felon living in New York', do they mean unnamed for the purpose of the report, but known to the investigators? Would there be any prosecution involved?

we're going on 2 years now. at the end of the wtnh video (2 mins 40) the reporter's saying no based on his sources.

I'm fairly sure investigators know his identity since they know he's a felon, they must know who he is based ont eh DNA match.

No offense, but this is not debunking. It's "debatable".The media immediately became the patsy for everything that went wrong in this case.

If I ever used a media source as evidence debunkers would flat out laugh at me, but now you're telling me to trust the media about this? Seriously? Is it different when you guys do it? You don't find it odd at all that the location of this letter is not detailed at all in any of the reports? That we have to rely on the media for this?

For the record, the moderator of this site edited my comment so this comment is misleading. I originally made it a point to add that the convict was also found on the gun that was used to kill Nancy. It was deleted however. Either because it was off topic or unsourced. Well, source: CFS 1200704597 00122616. And it's absolutely on topic. If the original post is arguing that the letter was not found in the Lanza home, this puts a new twist on that because the convict was found on evidence known and documented to have been found in the Lanza home. Thus, re-establishing the argument that the letter could have been found in the Lanza house, and the media is lying.
My argument is valid. The media is not a trustworthy source of information regarding this case and neither side should ever use it for their defense.

@GrawMack quote the evidence!!!!! I will add the PDFs for you, if you don't know how, as per Posting Guidelines, but you need to quote in those pdfs what you feel is "evidence" of your assertion.

I'm going to discuss this semi-relevant claim because I think there is a misunderstanding do to how some websites cite the quote.

the problem is this website neglected to add the line immediately following it. and I think people, reasonably, assume that BOTH samples tested positive.

But that is not the case. The next line says "NO matching profiles were found for item #4-2S2"
