Hi, I am from Canada. I found this site by searching up "free energy debunked" on Google. I learned about free energy from reading up various websites, but I started to doubt it when some experts claimed the implausibility of such an energy source. And my greatest doubt towards free energy came when some experts explained why, even if free energy were possible, it would not be able to magically solve all of our environmental problems and the looming energy crisis posed by peak oil. So I decided to search for resources online that try to rebuttal/debunk free energy, and I found this interesting site.
After lurking on this site, I found this site to be overall pretty interesting since I am pretty knowledgeable, yet skeptical, about the various conspiracy theories people post online. I know there are plenty of conspiracy theories, but deep-down inside, I believe most of them are bunk.
I've read the rules to this site, and I would gladly comply to them. Even if someone makes an absurd statement, I would politely show them why such a statement is implausible rather than resort to ad hominem attacks.
I've first became interested in conspiracy theories when I started reading about them on RationalWiki. Thankfully, that site demonstrated to me how implausible many of these theories are, and that I should always be skeptical about any claim that is made by someone online.

Hallo there! I found Metabunk.org just now when I was searching for specific information that debunks an outlandish claim that has been forwarded to me regarding NASA and its allegedly "proving" the bible "scientifically" correct.
Needless to say (?) I didn't find such information here on Metabunk, but I was curious enough to read a little more about this site, and once I read the politeness policy, I thought, "I would like to join this now."
For example, as to calling people liars when they are lying, I would have said that it's fair enough, really? Nonetheless, I must concur with the Politeness Policy's assertion as preferable that it's not fair enough, that rather we should simply demonstrate in what way they are lying.
You might have noticed already that I have written this without first reading the Posting Guidelines? So no prizes for guessing what I'm going to do next!

Just joined. I've never been a member of anything like this before but I often find myself commenting on YouTube videos that make me laugh or make me thoughtful because the content is so preposterous. I also enjoy a lot of the comments as much as the videos and so I was drawn to this site. Although I am immensely old and therefore thought by the younger generation to have thoughts of little use in these enlightened years, what age does bring is wisdom and calmness within that wisdom and the knowledge that we can all be wrong sometimes. My body is quite infirm and so my mind has to be sharp as a tack to make up for it and I think it is - but I could be wrong!!

Can't remember how I found this site....maybe something to do with debunking chemtrails? Anyway I thought i'd join up - this site seems very level headed and I need that...especially after recently reading a forum somewhere where people actually believe the earth is flat!

May as well post here first. Made an account a few weeks ago so I could see where all those hidden posts got shuffled off to.
Before that I was a frequent reader, starting around the time of the "fake snow" claims. I find the debunking process here interesting, since it shows not only the natural processes that can be behind "odd" occurrences, but also how to test for those.
I don't imagine I'll be posting here too much, since I'm mostly here to learn rather than share, but hi all the same!

Summary...I enjoy the posts on here... the site is very helpful...and it's good to know there's people out there trying to help reduce misinformation...cause now there's a lot of it...and I was once caught up in watching/believing CT's especially through Youtube vids...which probably lead to other sites...
Hey I just signed up cause I like reading the site (although through some discussions/arguments on here I read a bit too fast and/or only get it the second time around...) also I wouldn't mind posting sometime maybe or adding to convo's...I guess reading the guidelines first though...I'm not really a debunker...though maybe a little bit if searching google to find out if some CT or quotes on Facebook/Youtube are true...I've used Snopes in the past...now I hear it's not too credible...idk...at least they show some sources...instead of meme's with "facts" on them...
Honestly I used to smoke weed a lot when I was younger (still smoke...but I always try to quit...but after like 2-3 months I end up smoking again...in the process of quitting now lol...hopefully a way longer time than previously) ...around midway of my smoking career (lol) a friend informed me of the Illuminati...so weed would sometimes make me paranoid...sometimes maybe for some real reasons...but after watching all those Youtube vids on the Illuminati (while high sometimes) they got me super freaked out...and also kinda like OMG I need to find out more...thinking the vids were truthful...from that it went to other vids on youtube...actually idk if it was the 9/11 ones or the Illuminati ones that came first...but they both pulled me in really deep and definitely stressed me out mentally and changed my outlook on things like music industry..politics and w.e other garbage that they put on there ... I would watch them with my friends (mainly just one but we all talked about when we met up) ... ("the Illuminati" were brought up the other day between me an a friend so I said that I don't believe in that anymore..and that some of those claims are more easier explained with rich/powerful people with bad intentions or if it's about money..that businessmen will do unethical things to gain money"...or something more realistic than "it's the Illuminati" )...when I told him that, he said "yeah man you fucked me up with all those vids back in the day"....or something along the lines...he wasn't mad...he was just stating that was my fault for getting him interested in the YT vids/CT's and for changing his outlook on things..or convincing him...idk but he brought it up) I definitely feel bad about getting him/them into it... and I agreed...apologized...idk what else to say...it's been years since our 'the watching of the vids" but it seems like even after 2-4 years some of that belief is still with us...we were really hype about it amongst ourselves...I doubt they still watch the vids...hopefully now for laughs...especially with all the sarcastic/funny "Illuminati Confirmed" vids nowadays ..hope you guys have seen at least one of them... ^^ but yeah that's my story... you guys are great in what you do...so much thanks.

A little about myself - I have been a senior software engineer / database administrator for several decades and have a bachelor's degree in mathematics. My hobbies include playing guitar, writing music, studying math and computer algorithms (yes, I am a geek...), graphics, and reading/watching everything I can about aliens.
I found this site a few years ago doing 9/11 research and have read most of the related threads over time. I first found out about 9/11 conspiracy theories in 2004 and am actually amazed at how much it has grown since then. Just to be clear, I do not subscribe to any of them (including the "official" one), but I do enjoy exploring both sides of the debate in as much detail as I can. Personally, I do not have an interest in the conclusions (theories?) people come up with, just "why" they believe what they believe. Basically, I want to see the dots and how both sides connect them.

I hear this trope and it annoys me that people can make this claim without identifying what it is that they lied about. I have noticed that people generally say lie when it is something they do not believe and truth when it is something that confirms their belief. I have read RAW ,a lovely little thinker Dennett even c g Junge .
Two games played in childhood make it clear that humans do not see what they think they bsee (Hunt the thimble} or can relate what they are told {Telegraph/Chinese whispers ) this is a little long winded but I prefer to know the facts ,maam not stretched beliefs. The woo that a person has to wade through is deep as whale dung. After a brief skim I think that is the purpose of this site is clearing the dreck so we can see what is and what is not

I'm happy to be part of one of the most sensible online groups I've discovered so far.
I had no idea about the subject of chemtrails until my buddy sent me one of those YouTube videos with the scary music and pictures of skies full of contrails. I didn't buy any of it but my friend (whom I always thought was a smart guy) really wanted me to know the "truth." I burdened me to the point where I had to research it. What I found were several debunking websites and learned what it was really all about. Metabunk was one of those sites.
Yesterday (June 11,2016) another friend (who knows my dim view on the subject of chemtrails) sent me the link to "32 photos from INSIDE chemtrail planes" and had questions. I have seen a piece where they were all debunked and I could probably wing it myself but I think sending him the link would be a good way to defuse the BS in his mind. Do you know where I could find the article?
