This one cropped up on Twitter again, and surfaced a link to Kazakh media:

On the night of May 1, locals filmed a strange light above the city. The video quickly spread on social media.

Another perspective was offered by amateur astronomer Murat Sieubaev.

"It could be caused by architectural lighting. The light reflects off the lower cloud layer. It's a play of light and shadows," he suggested.

Nearly right, it's the upper cloud layer.

It's a relatively distinctive set of buildings. An interesting challenge to find it. It will be large brightly lit tall buildings . On the left side there's two less well lit (at least from this angle) curved corners or buildings.

At 0:30 we see buildings. Look like residential towers.

I've been looking... but there are a lot of residential complexes that look like this.


We can see a much taller building, with a red beacon on each corner, peeking over the building on our left.

That might help some, but it would be a hard slog to find this. It must be near something extraordinarily brightly lit with vertical lamps. And away from anything else lit that brightly.

Are we sure this is a building? Or buildings? I'm becoming skeptical of that. Roads or streets? One of the numerous parks, gardens, other public spaces?

Would really help if we knew where the camera was. The tall building does mean it must be in the city proper.

It's not surprising that we're only seeing a portion of the city. The conditions have to be just right. So looking for something extraordinarily bright may have been a red herring. Perhaps we're not looking at something really bright, we may just be seeing some random area that was reflected by the only part of the high clouds where conditions were just right. Shape of ice crystals, alignment of ice crystals, amount of ice crystals, angles of the light path from ground to crystal to observer, clear path for the light to travel past low clouds. What else?

A video of an unusual celestial phenomenon was published by one of the city's public groups, sparking a wave of discussion on social media.

The footage shows a nighttime panorama of Astana, with bright lights in the sky. One witness reported spotting the object at 8:43 PM, while another reported spotting it six minutes earlier. They said the object was so large that it was simultaneously seen from different points in the city—near the drama theater and in the Arman Kala residential complex area on the left bank, which are approximately six kilometers apart.

"I only managed to capture 10 glowing dots, while another person captured the entire shuttle. If I had looked up earlier, I might have seen the entire ship," shared the author of one of the videos.

Social media users are actively discussing the origin of the mysterious object.

"Drones are spying on summer residents grilling shashlik," "Sergek is all over town," "It's a spaceship," "Astana is preparing for a drone parade," the comments read.

So far, there have been no official comments from authorities or astronomical services.

Residents of Astana previously witnessed a rare natural phenomenon: several "suns" appeared simultaneously in the sky. This unusual effect, known as a parhelion, attracted attention on social media.

This seems to be from the person near the State Academic Kazakh Musical Drama Theatre. Meaning that the witness/videographer in the residential complex saw the more complete "map." Of course, they may have been seeing two different things reflected by the layer of ice fog that was responsible for this display.

Because of the distance between the witnesses, I suspect they probably were seeing two different things. Scattered UFO witnesses typically weave their stories into one narrative.

This means that the video we have included in this thread, the one from the residential complex, shows the more complete "map."
