"Chemtrail off your left wing": Air Traffic Controller

JRBids

Senior Member.
Patrick Roddie claims this is an air traffic controller telling a pilot "It looks like there's a chemtrail off your left wing".

At about 1 minute.

ATC audio attached. Segment at 18:40. It's a bit odd as the person does not seems to say anything else. Possible they are ground control, but hopped on on the tower freq to talk to the plane.

Probably just saw an aerodynamic contrail, or something from a drain.

Regarding the trail after takeoff, there was a discussion about similar trails (in hot weather) as part of this thread:

Hi,

a similar trail sometimes can be seen after takeoff in summer:

It is fuel from the overflow valve, when the tank is full and the fuel heats up and expands. The overflow valve is by Boeing in the front of the wing.

Interesting, but is that what your photo is showing? The trail seems to be coming from the body, not the wing. Shouldn't it look like this:

The plane mentioned in the audio SW1256, was also a 737.

Another:

The vents (NACA ducts), located near each wing tip, provide a small positive head of pressure on the fuel in all three tanks. This prevents a vacuum forming as fuel is used, assists the fuel pumps and reduces evaporation. NB if you overfill the fuel tanks, then this is where the ensuing fuel spillage will come from!

PLEASE READ

Thank you all for watching this video. Taken in the morning of June 27th last summer this Thomson Airways Boeing 737-800 appears to be leaking fuel from the outer left wing during its takeoff run, rotation and climb from Manchester Airport. It is possibly fuel coming from the overflow valve.
As the sun was beginning to appear over the horizon and the air was getting warmer the fuel in the likely full fuel tank would begin to expand which might be the reason for the leakage.
We can't say for sure whether this is a fuel leak or not, but internet sources suggest that this is a fuel leak. Otherwise, it would be a very odd vortex.

And notice these are all from the left wing.

Actually seems fairly common:

This one is on the right wing, a little hard to see.

Here the leak does not happen until the plane is quite high.

Here some plane spotters get concerned:

This is a 727, actually looks quite dramatic:

A Boeing 727- 2S2F(RE) operated by T2 Aviation Oil Response takes off with fuel leaking from the pilot side wing, from Gander International Airport ( CYQX ) for Keflavik International Airport ( BIKF ).
The problem was simply due to warm temperatures and the fuel release valve opening up releasing some fuel, the pilot was told of the situation and continued on to its destination.

This one could be mistaken for a contrail:

So do you think a controller familiar with the chemtrail theory saw a fuel leak, knew it wasn't anything to worry about, and decided to have a little fun with it? It seems a bit strange that they didn't follow up to mention the fuel, though. And they later change their mind to say "contrail".

Mick is mentioned at about 5:25 on that vid when Roddie is claiming that a chart he found shows conditions are not right for contrail formation.

No, I think they actually thought it was a contrail, thought it was strange, and were concerned enough to let the plane known. I suspect it was someone new. Quite possibly they had heard contrails referred to as "chemtrails" before, either jokingly or seriously.

It's strange that the pilot just said "OK thanks", and nothing else was done.

Probably looked out, saw what it was (or saw nothing) then carried on. A contrail (or even a fuel overflow) on takeoff is really nothing to worry about.

But it may be a fuel leak. He can't know what it is without performing a number of checks.

When i was doing air traffic control we used to discuss everything from sports to politics to UFOs when it was slow. This is ATC and the pilots having a laugh at the expense of chemtrailers.

If the chemtrails people actually wanted to do a CSI (crime scene investigation) approach, all they have to do is observe this or any other plane at the airports to see if anything were being loaded which could be making so-called chemtrails.

If nothing is seen happening on the ground over time, and persistent trails are observed, they need to modify their views.
This isn't a new idea. Years ago Dane Wigington and the other California believers were claiming that no commercial airliners flew along the west coast which could account for the trails they saw. They claimed, and still claim that USAF tanker jets are making the trails. Despite being fully informed that those claims were wrong, they have continued and have never taken a logical, factual CSI approach to resolving their suppositions. It was shown that the contrails they saw were co-incident with ordinary commercial passenger flights.

An approach which could shed real facts on what they are seeing would include identification of the planes they see and ground observations at airports. The CSI process could include high altitude photography, ground observation, and even people boarding the flights to see what happens.

The problem with this approach is that it could actually resolve the conspiracy theory at which time most of those making the claim would have to eat crow and be proven wrong. Very few are willing to take that humbling chance, preferring to wallow where they are instead.
