Hi
@Smay52.
Sadly, none of us can promise each other that we'll all have a happy 2027, though I hope everyone here does!
Whatever problems or misfortunes any or all of us might face in 2027, an alien attack must be one of the least likely.
I do not believe for one minute that
anyone has knowledge that such a thing will happen.
To assess the claims of some dreadful alien-related event in 2027, it might be worth watching TV shows where well-known astronomers and other relevant scientists give their views about possible alien life, and/ or reading a few popular science books about astronomy/ space exploration etc.
Most professional astronomers and many other research scientists are employed by university departments, not by the government.
Like the rest of the public, they have different backgrounds and diverse political views. Like (most of) the rest of us, they're usually able to put differences aside in order to cooperate in their work- finding out more about the universe.
There is no indication they are being suppressed or censored by government (at least in the US, "Western" countries and many others).
Carl Sagan, a prominent advocate of the search for extraterrestrial intelligence, was arrested during a protest against US nuclear testing. But neither his professional work or his role in educating the public about science were affected, he wasn't "cancelled".
There seems to be a broad consensus amongst astronomers and scientists who study the findings of spaceprobes etc., and others with relevant knowledge (certain physicists, chemists, biologists and others):
(1)
Extraterrestrial life is possible. From what we know about the history of Earth and what we think we know about other stars and their planets, life might have arisen elsewhere. If it has, we have no idea how commonplace it might be, just guesses.
(1a)
But if extraterrestrial life exists, we haven't seen any. No-one has found good evidence of life elsewhere, of any sort. Some things that might have been possible evidence of extraterrestrial life- e.g. fossil evidence of microbes in some meteorites, trace gases in the atmosphere of Venus, are now widely thought to be due to non-biological processes. Some thought features on Mars as seen from Earth were canals or patches of vegetation, we now know they weren't.
But it shows scientists are prepared to consider the possibility of extraterrestrial life, do not hide their thoughts about it, and are not censored.
(2)
Extraterrestrial intelligence (ETI) might be a possibility. We're here, and if extraterrestrial life is possible, it might evolve intelligence too.
(2a)
But if ETI exists, it is almost certainly much rarer than extraterrestrial life generally. Which we have yet to detect, see (1a).
There have been millions of multicellular species over hundreds of millions of years on Earth, a species with complex technology has arisen once, recently. Our very close relatives, the Neanderthals, were around longer than us but their technology progressed little. We don't know why.
(2b)
There is currently no evidence, at all, of the existence of ETI. The lack of evidence of ETI has struck some scientists, giving rise to the Fermi paradox ("Where is everybody?") and discussion about "the big silence", the fact that we haven't detected signals from other species.
Sending radio signals over interstellar distances is relatively cheap and simple, even humans can do it. A species interested in establishing contact with others might choose to use radio signals even if they used other technologies for communication within their culture.
(2c)
Reports of UFOs and meetings with aliens do not constitute evidence of ETI. There is no reliable, testable evidence that any UFO sighting, or even photo/ film/ video, shows an ETI craft. We do know people can be mistaken, and that people have made hoax UFO photos, some of which have convinced "believers" for many years- sometimes even after they've been shown to be hoaxes.
There are many famous UFO sightings, some discussed on this forum. None demonstrate that aliens exist, unless we accept that the claimants are telling the truth
and are accurately recounting what happened. We
know people can make extraordinary misidentifications in good faith, and (rarely) can have extraordinary, complex experiences which seem very real to them but which are probably subjective.
Some people claim to have met and even communicated with aliens But nothing they tell us has ever been anything useful, nothing new that can be used, and nothing that demonstrates these aliens actually exist.
Throughout history, probably in all cultures, people have reported seeing, and sometimes interacting with, strange things and non-human entities. People in past times believed reports of witches and fairies. Many respectable people have had encounters with figures from their religious traditions, but it must be unlikely all religious traditions are objectively correct.
I'm generalizing when I say there is a consensus. Some astronomers and related folk think differently. Avi Loeb thinks objects from interstellar space detected in our solar system, e.g. Oumuamua, might be of ETI origin. But this is very much a minority view, and Loeb hasn't claimed this is firm evidence of ETI.
Fred Hoyle was an astronomer who explained how different elements were made in stars, he also had unusual (and almost certainly wrong) views about extraterrestrial life, e.g. disease outbreaks being caused by comets (carrying bacteria strains which we
know exist on Earth).
As in any profession, there will be small numbers with unusual beliefs. There are geologists and medical doctors who believe Earth, and humankind, were created around 6000 BC because of their interpretation of the Bible. They are probably wrong.
With people making claims about aliens in 2027, we have to ask:
(1) What evidence do they have that aliens exist
at all? Because they haven't shared it.
(2) How would they know what a hypothetical ETI, whose existence they are unable to prove, is planning to do?
Human history has many examples of surprise attacks, Trojan Horse onwards. Equally military attacks are sometimes anticipated: Military forces are seen massing near a border, signals are intercepted, plans revealed by espionage or accidental leaks.
But in this case, how would the 2027 claimants know anything like this? Did a visiting UFO drop a folder with invasion plans? That they could read? Have they been tracking ETI spacecraft (no, or they'd provide evidence) or intercepting ETI communications (no, again no evidence, and how would they interpret the alien language- even assuming ETI military comms are unencrypted?)
There's a lot of nonsense on the internet. Pretty much anyone can post pretty much anything. It isn't hard to find groups supporting unusual and sometimes unpleasant, even dangerous views. There's a lot of
deliberately fake news stories and "science" items. I suspect many people involved in producing them don't really believe them themselves.
The major news outlets with pre-internet origins (national broadcasters, newspapers) all have their faults, they all make mistakes and some are politically biased, but in many cases they are more reliable than many internet forums/ blogs/ "influencers". Some have a record of investigative journalism that has revealed important things we wouldn't otherwise have known about. AFAIK no significant traditional news producer has raised any concerns about aliens in 2027. They
have, in several countries, carried stories which have contributed to the downfall of governments, so it's unlikely they're all controlled by the government (same goes for intelligence agencies; stories embarrassing to e.g. the CIA, MI6 are not all suppressed).
@Smay52, you could make a note of the 2027 claims that concern you, and make a point of checking them once in a while through 2027.
Try not to be too preoccupied with them, though. Sometimes, distracted, we let other important things slip by- including having fun or being happy.
I predict that by the end of 2027, there won't have been anything resembling an unambiguous alien attack.
I
doubt that we'll find convincing evidence for the existence of ETI in 2027.
Bad things will happen in 2027; there will be disease outbreaks, natural disasters, aircraft crashes, armed conflict/ violent incidents.
Beware anyone saying
these are due to hidden alien activity, and therefore evidence for their 2027 claims. Sadly, these things happen and they don't require aliens.
