Which indicates to me that it isn't a hoax because no one would be stupid enough to leave a smoking gun like that ..... UNLESS they wanted to create a conspiracy!

Hard to say. Appears to be sort of twined into it, but had it either been being lowered or fished out you'd think there would be a knot......

The rope does not even seem to be attached. I think it's probably just a piece of trash tossed down there later.
Which is another very obvious option. It could just be unrelated detritus that ended up on the landing gear. The alleyway has been described as trash-filled or whatever, so it seems a logical possibility.

Ya know group, reexamining my feelings toward 9/11 I find I could easily be counted in that 81% because I believe that Saudi involvement was hidden or downplayed for obvious reasons. This belief, while it qualifies me for inclusion in the very broad definitions used in the polls and the somewhat ambiguous as to reason statements quoted however, doesn't require new study of the actual event.

What I meant is that one could put me in the 81% of those who think our government is hiding something about 9/11 because I believe the investigating possible Saudi government involvement was generally given a politically motivated pass during the broader investigation. This does not mean that events didn't happen the way the have been described nor does it mean that my belief warrants a reexamination. All it means is that if asked about the government "hiding things" as in the poll above, my answer would likely be "Yes." The problem is that the poll doesn't ask "Why" or "What," thus it can lead one to the wrong statistical conclusion when citing it as a call for reopening the entire investigation.

Contrary to an initial theory that the piece could have been lowered by a rope found still wrapped to it, the police department clarified Monday that a police officer had attached the rope last week to maneuver the part to better see a serial number and other indicators.
He was probably going to sell it to China but couldn't get it out... so he thought to himself... I know, I'll leave the rope on and start a conspiracy theory
18" gap 17" inch part...hole in one...that is pretty amazing but I suppose taken in context it is just a fluke.

Is that what this website is for now? Spewing new conspiracy theory when we debunk something like "The police used the rope to move the item for better view" then that means the police were trying to sell the part on the black market? Why are you still here Oxy? This kind of stuff isn't funny to me; its infuriating. I cannot believe I'm wasting brain cells on any of your posts.
So what would you like then... to just sit their typing away about how silly these conspiracists are... agreeing with each other and no dissent followed by posts like... 'Oh thank you so much, I was so frightened by all these conspiracy theories and you have shown them all to be liars and idiots... I am so grateful, I haven't slept for a week but now I will sleep peacefully and dream of fluffy little lambs'.

I would have thought the landing gear was recovered by now and more info available. Can't seem to find anything further.
Thought this pic interesting though... Shows an undamaged ledge (top of pic), which really restricts the already very narrow gap (18")... so presumably the landing gear would have had to get in under that ledge?

Using a pulley system and sheer brawn, police removed a suspected 9/11 plane part from between two buildings near the World Trade Center site, and the medical examiner said no potential human remains had been found there.
About a dozen officers raised the jagged, 255-pound metal piece, which contains cranks, levers and bolts, from the ground. They took it over a three-story wall, lowered it into a courtyard and carried it through the basement of a planned mosque, at the site where it was discovered by an inspector last week.
Onlookers across the street took pictures as they heaved it onto a truck taking it to a Brooklyn police facility. The process took about two hours.
