Hi guys! I'm from Brazil and discovered recently Mr. Mike West and by chance, after looking a discussion from the UFOs subreddit, this forum, which I didn't know it exist, until yesterday.

I was looking before more details about the 2004 Tic-Tac incident, which caught my attention. I have always been interested in this area and everything astronomy related, never been a firm believer in all the reports, and at the same time I don't think it's all bogus + explained by something else, so easily.

What drives me is the need to know more about the events and uncover the truth about them, or what else has been going on, or what can happen later. I think that's an "agnostic" way of viewing things, or being a skeptic, if one prefers that label. Which to me is the ideal position to have, if there's a lack of convicing and irrefutable evidence.

I hope I can contribute to these online boards!

Hello, welcome.

Just so you know it's Mick and not Mike, although both are often short for Michael.

I knew it was Mick, meant to say that, and it appeared Mike in here... every post I make anywhere, I check for typos and prepare them fully. Don't neglect sleep, folks, the mind will start slipping and you won't even notice.
Well if we are going to start worrying too much about typos, I am going to be in serious troble! ^_^

Hi guys, I am a long time lurker from the UK. I have a big interest in the UFO and paranormal subjects. I also love reading about conspiracy theories.
I was a long time member of ATS before its demise but I had already stopped visiting due to almost every thread turning into an argument about American politics and Trump etc. I mean I am struggling with UK politics lol
Luckily this site and D I seem to be well moderated.

Welcome @devilhunter!!

I was a long time member of ATS

Anyone who served in the late Queen's branch of service is a rare catch for Metabunk :)

Hi everyone,
How's it going? I'm here because the big social media platforms are dying and I want to hang out with the sort of people who spend hours pouring over a video looking for debris.
I don't really know what I think about most of the topics discussed on here. I try to keep an open mind.

Hello everyone!

I've been lurking for a while, so thought I'd better say hi :)

I'm amazed, impressed and confused (in roughly equal measures!) at the level of detail that is gone into - I mean that as a compliment.

I've always been a sceptic, and tend to get frustrated when things are just beleived without question, no matter how weird they are. So Metabunk is such a breath of fresh air!

Well, better get on with some work!

Hi again!

Jim

Hello/Bonjour from Reunion Island! (Indian ocean, by Madagascar) Saw something mighty strange in the sky on Saturday and can't find an answer as to what it might be, which is how I found this site. I've already posted the question. In spite of our strange sighting, I've always been interested in things celestial, astronomy and science fiction, so I may have a look around.

Hi there everyone! Honestly regardless of skepticism, a big shoutout to Mick for keeping the forums up for so long! I miss when the web wasn't so centralised and look forward to posting here.

It's been quite the rollercoaster year for me: I've always been fascinated by UFOS/Aliens, and since 2017 to earlier this year was pretty much as close to a believer in this stuff as I thought I could get without an alien craft parking over my house.

I'm sure you've heard this many times over the years, but I genuinely did think -something- was going to happen earlier this year. With the sheer amount of seemingly credible people coming out, drone sightings escalating, the age of disclosure doc picking up steam etc, I can confidently say I've never been so quickly let down in all my life lmao.

The drones didn't amount to anything, more and more 'credible' witnesses got massive chinks in their armour (Lue Elizondo was pretty much my golden boy, the type of guy I always wanted to see come forward. Then he started talking about orbs in his book and posting pictures of chandeliers, no disrespect to him as a person but man did his credibility go down hard!), and the disclosure doc which I watched just last night, was compelling, but just a summary of what I already knew, nothing new or noteworthy.

Lastly of course, a big thankyou to everyone who posts here. I've been lurking for a while now, and it's quite impressive how a few hours of scrolling on here have made me vastly more skeptical of UFOs/UAPs. Even the biggest cases/evidence don't hold a candle to your scrutiny and occam's razor (extra thanks to you guys who boil things down to layman's terms).

I'm not the most knowledgeable, but I'll help where I can!

Hello from Germany,
looking toward to contribute (hopefully) meaningful content.
FYI the only reason I know about the site is the repeated attacks from UFO entertainment space being mad about it.go Figure

I like the way you put that. Maybe we can generalize it to Conspiracy Infotainment Industry?
(And welcome!)

Hi! I'm here because I read Mick's book to help a friend out. 9/11 was his gateway conspiracy (his words). He believes in the "no planes" CGI version. I'm doing the three steps with him now, but only a few days in, so I'm still learning about his favorite conspiracy and how to debunk it.

Hi Metabunk! Having been a long time Lurker at the Threshold, I finally decided to conquer my techno fears and figure out how to join up. A short bio: child of the UK '70s, enthralled by Spielberg's Close Encounters, grew up reading the various Charles Berlitz and Von Däniken paperbacks that were ubiquitous back then, all the time wondering why the best 'UFO' photos seem to have been taken in the '50s and '60s and not the fabulous '70s. Then I discovered Dr Peter J. White's excellent 'The Past is Human: Ancient Mysteries Explained', which answered a lot of the nagging doubts that had been bugging me about the whole 'was God an Astronaut' schtick. Triggered a life-long interest in archaeology and science which has brought me to you good folks. Got back into the UFO/UAP field a few years ago, only to find little had changed: the same old fuzzy/shaky images and outlandish claims of ancient aliens, and 'the truth' was still 'just around the corner'. Despite working in a place of science I'm afraid I have zero mathematical or computational skills to contribute to the forum, but I am a keen reader of printed media, and am always scanning the skies with my camera as you never know what you might see. Lifelong dweller under various Heathrow flightpaths, so flashing lights in the sky don't phase me much. Looking forward to contributing however I can. Cheers!

Hello all.
I joined here after I became frustrated with the recent supposed drone sightings in Europe. I already followed the New Jersey drone panic a little bit last year on twitter and now that it is also happening in Europe (I am from the Netherlands myself) I want to learn more about how to debunk drone sightings and try to help myself.

Hi everyone! Johann here.

I was in my 20's (this was mid 1990's) when I first read about "The Philadelphia Experiment" (this is the one where the US Navy ostensibly made the USS Eldridge invisible and teleported the ship to Norfolk and back within a matter of minutes using Einstein's "Unified Field Theory") - I was absolutely spellbound and amazed that I had come to be in possession of this knowledge ... I could feel the adrenalin running through my veins and was ecstatic to have uncovered something so spectacular! I knew just enough about Einstein's physics to be dangerous, and the author did a fine job of using a few rambling letters from Carlos Allende to fabricate one of the most enduring conspiracy myths of all time...so I admit I totally fell for it. I remember wondering at the time why the US Navy had not, since 1943, used this spectacular technology more broadly given its obvious power, but sadly I did not let such mundane concerns get in the way of my newfound "belief".

Fast forward 20 years, I forgot about the Philadelphia Experiment, and occasionally read about UFO sightings, aliens and so forth. I never really bought into the Roswell story, mostly because as a non-American it always struck me as odd that the majority of UFO's always tended to land in the USA, and I suspected that the UFO sightings taught us more about American storytelling than about alien activity, but I kept a watching brief on the topic anyway. I suspected that 99% of sightings were hoaxes, misidentifications, lies, or optical illusions, but thought that there was probably a stub of 1% that were harder to dismiss so easily, and perhaps warranted further investigation. It also struck me as odd that the UFO photos were always so grainy.

The first time I really sat up and took serious notice was when the Nimitz Tic Tac, and Gimbal, and other videos filmed by US Navy pilots started surfacing. These felt a bit different ... the Navy pilots seemed credible and well trained, did not have the same incentives that "UFOlogists" and others in the field have, and the "corroboration" of the filmed footage elevated these claims to a higher level than, say, Bob Lazard's rambling stories about reverse engineering alien propulsion systems at Los Alamos. A friend pointed me to Mick West's now famous debunking videos, and at last I was able to reconcile my nagging doubts with a credible explanation of why the videos looked so real but were perfectly explainable using mundane and straightforward known characteristics of the camera systems.

The problem with conspiracy theories is that, very occasionally, some of them turn out to be true. The most famous example is probably MK Ultra, the CIA mind control experiments with LSD, which was initially dismissed as paranoia (or perhaps the NSA mass surveillance concerns later exposed by Edward Snowden). I'm not making the argument that all conspiracy theories deserve equal airtime, or any airtime, but merely that each case or incident should be considered on its own merits.

This is why I try to stay humble, stay curious, go easy on friends and family who are conspiracy theorists (show some compassion), research the topic and follow the facts. I don't ever want to fall for a "Philadelphia Experiment" type conspiracy theory again, but I also recognize that there may be another Edward Snowden type revelation on the horizon at some point, and so on this journey of knowledge discovery it's important for me to walk the tightrope between skepticism and curiosity in a sensible balance.

I think this is a great site and applaud the work done here by many to offer rational explanations for seemingly inexplicable events, thereby making it easier for those who are interested to find the truth or at least find the most likely explanation for a given phenomenon.

Regards
Johann

If you want to learn more about "drone sightings" then I recommend @ThomasH videos that show the use of Sitrec and other techniques in figuring out things.

the Navy pilots seemed credible and well trained
Whenever I'm given the line "but these are trained observers," I'm always of a mind to reply "so, not the ones involved in friendly fire incidents then, they're not the trained ones, right?". Last time I checked, they're all human, like the rest of us and prone to the same mistakes, maybe just fewer of them, but some nonetheless.

Remember, NOBODY is a "trained observer" of UFOs. :)

Hello. My name is Olena. I have never been interested in UFOs or any conspiracy theories. But I really enjoy watching you investigate different cases and find answers.
I am interested in pre-dynastic Egypt and the period before the pyramids. I really liked the topic about stone vases on this site.
Sorry for possible mistakes, because I am writing through an online translator.

A long time reader, I have a broad interest. I may lean away from the paranormal toward more 'unusual' topics like 'the evidentiary basis of needle spiking phenomena' or 'attainment grade inflation/deflation in education' just to give two examples.

This isn't a thread for continuing discussion, but if there were a reliable (and apparently safe) way of quickly administering a sufficient volume of a bioactive material quickly, and with so little discomfort that claimants sometimes report not feeling anything at all at the estimated time of the assault, nurses/ doctors would use it. (There have of course been cases of malicious people threatening or jabbing others with syringes).

This thread is for any first time poster to (optionally) post an introductory "hi everyone" post, which will also get you "verified" (meaning you can post without anti-spam restrictions) once that post, and a few posts in another sub-forum, have been approved.

A few words on who you are and how you ended up here would be appreciated. Or just say hi!

Hi everyone,
my name is Mike and I live in Argentina.

Hi!

I'm just an average everyday normal guy who trusts science. In my free time I enjoy devouring conspiracy theory nonsense purely for the entertainment and armchair psychoanalysis value. And if some kind soul out there has taken the time to disassemble and destroy the conspiracy I'm reading on the john, why that's all the better :)

Grew up in new york, saw 9/11 happen up close and it was pretty f'd-up! Appreciate all the people out there fighting the good fight against disinformation <3

hi Im Peter, been lurking for ages, really love this site, thanks to all, especially Mick,
in real life im an underemployed artist living in a temperate rainforest in New Zealand whose obsession with our native birds occupies the majority of my time and energy.
but an interest in science fiction led me to a fascination with all this ufo stuff,
honestly i would like to believe, but so far have only seen evidence of how strange people can be....
i like to think of myself as skeptical, but i suspect my friends think im a deluded maniac talking to birds...
they may not be wrong...

Cheers, Bird-man.. Lots of great UFO articles in the Trove newspaper database about sightings in your part of the world; some of my favorites are there.
I also talk to the birds and squirrels in my backyard, so no worries. I'm a squirrel enthusiast.
