Welcome Thread - New Members Post Here

Hi Metabunk! I've browsed this site off and on for about two years, gravitating mostly towards the UFO debunking side of things. I really enjoy seeing the users here work together to provide mundane explanations for weird-looking phenomena, like solving a group puzzle. I hope my own perspective will be interesting too! :)

Hello from Florida! I am also coming from the "Cooper Family Photo" video. I already have some theories to discuss regarding the Studio Ramsdell website's secret login page, and it would be sick to get to the bottom of my first sorta-ARG. Anyways, good to be here

Hello everyone, Travis here. I question a lot and also enjoy Event Reconstruction Analysis. as someone who has spent a fair amount of their career with sensor data analysis, modeling and simulation, event reconstruction. I find this forum very enlightening and insightful. Always happy to learn something new and provide insight.

Howdy all – Long time lurker here. I'm looking forward to finally interacting with the community here, once approved.
Welcome, one and all, esp. those who survived the 60s:

Just saw Mick on Vetted and was impressed. The name Mick West had always brought thoughts of a rude and uneducated angry man debunking just to cause a rift. That is not what I saw on Vetted! Thanks for helping the UFO community find the truth. Not every UFO/UAP is an alien!

Hi everyone,

I'm here because I believe critical thinking should go beyond debunking for its own sake. My focus is on cutting through noise, speculation, and sensationalism to examine what actually holds up under scrutiny – whether it confirms mainstream explanations or reveals deeper layers behind accepted narratives.

I've been disappointed by how little genuine, fact-based discussion exists on other forums, where sensationalism often replaces substance. I really hope I've finally found a place here where serious, grounded analysis is possible.

Looking forward to learning and challenging assumptions together.

Nah, he's just from England ;). Thank you for making me smile!
A West. From England? Were you not reading the news in the 90s? A Rose by any other name... (I'm Afred other puns were not available at the time of writing this message.)

I'm not sure I shere the same level of amusement as you. Ascribing personality traits to names sounds mostly like bunk to me. (Unless it's "Wayne" as a middle name - https://www.weirduniverse.net/gallery/classic_middle_name - but maybe that's more a property of the parents and their parenting.)

Er, yeah. Wholeheartedly agree.
I don't think the OP was saying the name "Mick West" in itself evoked certain thoughts, but the impression created by some "believers"/ conspiracy theorists about "our" M.W. did, which the OP recognises as incorrect.

I thought it was amusing because M.W. strikes me as being polite, knowledgeable, tolerant and patient (going by Metabunk and some of his videos, opinions he's given in print media etc.)

UFO believer–zealots desperately wish that Mick acted as badly and as irrationally as they do. Since there's no evidence of that, they tell each other stories: he's a paid disinfo agent, Lucky Louie on Wikipedia, clown, thinks everything is a seagull, gets everything wrong, never admits an error, etc. All stories without evidence. Sound familiar?

We're glad you're here! I think the problem with many in the UFO community is that skepticism is often seen as an attack instead of an attempt to understand things more clearly. People get so attached to the idea of something being true that they forget how important it is to question things honestly. So it's really great to see someone like you come in with an open mind and a willingness to reevaluate. That kind of approach helps move the conversation forward for everyone, imo

Alas, many in the UFO community are not willing to have their preconceptions challenged or even disproven:

(this one is just is a straight up misunderstanding but amusing nonetheless)

To an extent you will, but you'll see a bit more contentious debate when a point is under discussion than you'd see in a finished product by Mr. West -- he's a gentleman, after all, some of us are just doing our best to simulate that! ^_^
Yeah, but not all. For example, my g/f has just described me as "inciteful", and, yes, she spelt it out.

Many greetings from Germany. I am an avid fan of scientific findings on extraordinary events and enjoy photography. I will be a silent reader here and am happy to have found this great site. I have been reading it for several years and have now decided to take this step and join. Thank you for your excellent explanations and logical conclusions. @MickWest: Thank you for your tireless efforts. P.S. Attached is one of my photos (nothing extraordinary to discover, it's just a morning snapshot, near the German Baltic Sea in the north on the east coast)..
