I've been here a couple weeks now, and made a few other comments. Figure I'm a bit over due for this one. Hi everybody.

I used to be pretty entertained by conspiracy theories, but lately, not so much. What started as "this stuff is pretty crazy and some of my friends are fun to argue with" turned into "Oh... dude... I can't believe how passionate and deep this well of misinformation is." Found this and a handful of other sites looking for more concrete and constructive information to help some friends avoid slipping into all that noise.

I like the set up here, I appreciate the levelheaded approach and lack of animosity.

Greetings to all :) i have been reading the posts on this forum for about 6 months now. Mick West and the rest of the team have really inspired me to look at the facts/provable evidence, instead of getting sucked into wild stories and other nonsense.

I have little to bring to the debunking table right now, just wanted to say thanks to all the regular posters for giving me much to think about.

I'm 28, in Australia, Musician and i used to enjoy reading about CT, now it makes my head hurt. Thank goodness for debunking. have a great day :)

Hello everyone, My name is Ron. I am originally from Jacksonville, FL. Joined the Air force in 1999 and got stationed in Delaware and been here ever since.

I first found this site looking for explanations for the "burning snow" videos recently.

I am a very skeptical person, I hardly take any one's word for it. I research just about everything my eyes gaze upon. Not in an effort to prove wrong or argue, as many of my friends claim. However, for me to just know and yes possibly relay what I have found to my friends so they don't look like idiots.

I am a Christian and do believe the Bible to be the infallible Word of God. To most skeptics, this is my one flaw. Which I wear like a badge of honor. However, I am still a very scientific, data driven, test in the lab orientated type person.

I hope to be a major contributor to this website's efforts as I do have much experience in aviation, and military environments. I am also currently a student seeking a degree in Homeland Security and Emergency Management, which is under the umbrella of Criminal Justice.

Hi. Came here out of curiosity. I've been fascinated with the political arena ever since I was a young kid and always was annoyed by people that continually make our country the enemy in every domestic or global situation. I'm aware our government is far from perfect, but that doesn't mean everyone walking the precious halls of DC is co-conspirating for your little demise.

Maybe my introduction is a little too partisan already, but at least you understand at what angle I will be coming from. I'm here to defend my beliefs but I am always open to hearing the other side of the story and investigating the facts.

Recently, I have been approached by several conspiracy theorists who have brought forth interesting allegations, hopefully I will find the real answers to the questions posed here on this website while setting emotions aside. Other than that, great to be here!

Welcome Ahmed. Please note that "posting videos for you guys to debunk" need to follow the posting guidelines:
https://www.metabunk.org/threads/posting-guidelines.2064/
Specifically:

Guidelines for new threads
  1. Focus on individual claims of evidence, not broader theories
  2. Title the thread with something that identifies that claim, preferably with an appropriate tag word/phrase describing what the first post does (e.g. "Claim:" , "Debunked:", "Fake:", "Need Debunking:" (only use descriptors that you can back up)
  3. Describe what the claim of evidence is, who made it, where they made it, what the known facts are, what are the disputed facts, and what is the broader theory that this claim is supporting.
  4. Link and Quote the claim. Use EX tags.
  5. Debunk it if possible. Explain what the problems with the claim are - both evidence and conclusions. Link to other sites that discuss the claim.
  6. Ask specific questions about what you don't know about the claim
  7. Videos must be accompanied by a description of the video, identifying the claim made in it, with time location if longer than 1 minute.
  8. Don't just post something and say "what do you guys think?".

Hi all,

It's great to have found this forum.

I am an active member of the astronomical community and most of my interests are related to astrophotography and software development. Recently I came across some of the absurd claims being made by a certain Mr. Scott Waring, claims which I found most upsetting as they appear utterly ignorant and serve only to misinform the community. Whilst reading over the www.news.com.au article on Mr. Waring I noticed a link this very forum -- a breath of fresh air in a landscape filled with misleading and unsubstantiated claims of ridiculous proportion.

Although I am yet to ascertain as to whether Mr. Warings ignorance is due to a lack of critical thinking skills or whether he is intentionally ignorant purely to appease his own needs, I feel that as a member of the astronomical community and the science community as a whole, it is my duty to question, investigate and where possible, debunk his outrageous reports of UFO's, alien structures/buildings, intentional cover-ups by NASA and so on.

I am glad to have found a forum upon which I can take the opportunity to methodically and systematically review each and every one of Mr Warings and indeed others claims of such phenomena, with input and assistance from other open-minded individuals. Mr Waring and others like him refuse to publish any comments made which dare even approach the point of questioning or refuting their claims, making this forum a very valuable resource. It is important to inform and educate the community so that they do not buy into the misinformation spread by these individuals.

Hello, I found this site from a Facebook group called "Contrail Science and Facts - Stop the Fear Campaign." I'm from South Dakota, one of the many "flyover states" and I've been seeing lingering contrails since at least the early '90s, I never once questioned what they were because I understand how they form. Many late night wikiwalks have also taught me that they are a form of cirrus cloud, and that for the few days after 9/11, when the planes were grounded, the temperature actually increased because of the decreased albedo. I'm just happy that there's a site like this on the internet. I'm a college student studying for biology but still conflicted about what to go for, after learning more about GMOs I've kind of been leaning towards agricultural biotech. I'm also very keen on futurism and am a transhumanist, especially when it comes to augmenting the human mind to store more information and the blending of biology and technology. Anyway, I think that's about enough about me, I tend to be a lurker but I may comment if something piques my interest.

Welcome to Metabunk!!

Happy to join the site to both critique and support some of the issues addressed here.

I have an Honours Degree in Political Science, I consider myself a critical thinking Marxist/socialist, feminist and even a Keynesian when I'm feeling less revolutionary. More importantly, I use these perspectives to inform my views on conspiracy theory. Their is A LOT of nonsense on the web these days, but their is also a lot of credible skepticism among the conspiracy theorists that tends to get ignored by dogmatic "debunking" types. That said, here is where I stand on all the major issues:

Chemtrails: Way overblown and ridiculous, but at the same time, cloud seeding IS a thing.
NWO: NO.
HAARP: What a silly theory
Illuminati: What? No.
Alex Jones: The final boss in the game of right-wing assclowns. Unfortunately, he's right about 5% of his ravings.
Vaccines: Clearly necesarry, but ineffective needle injections need to be replaced with nanopatches (as seen on TED). I also have a hard time arguing against the dangers of adjuvants and some the chemicals found in some vaccines.
Freemasons: They don't run the world.
UFOs: The fact that the US government made a few investigations into this gives me pause... but not all that much.
Crop circles: We know they're fake.
Zeitgeist Chapter 1: This part on religion had me convinced for years until I saw the debunked version. Regardless, its still pretty clear that Jesus was a copy of older historical messiahs.
Moon Landing Hoax: Obviously dumb for so many reasons. Of course we went.
Alien moon bases: Unlikely
Fukushima apacalypse: No. you guys debunked that pretty well here.
Planet X: What!?
Columbine: Their were more than two shooters, but I have no idea why they would cover that up.
Jonestown, Guayana: Murdered, not Suicide. Mind control Experiment gone bad
2000 US presidential election: Quite obviously rigged. That goes for Ohio in 2004.
Global Warming: 98% of climatologists agree. Is their anything more to debate?
9/11: You're actually an idiot if you've spent more than 2 minutes researching this and still think 19 arabs did this on their own. Bet you didn't know that Bush was planning to start operations in Afghanistan that fall anyway. Stop being dumb.
JFK: Again, the evidence is pretty clear. Unquestionably the CIA was involved, FBI and other agencies have fingerprints throughout as well. Lone assassin? Go home, you're drunk.
RFK: Sirhan Sirhan sure had some skill - able to shoot a man from the back while standing right in front of him.
JFK jr: much of the same, it seems.
MLK
: FBI job. lots of evidence.
Pearl Harbor: They knew in advance. And no, it was not just "vague" intel.
Hiroshima & Nagasaki: Not necesarry AT ALL except to scare Russia and China. All of the Japanese high command were trying to surrender (Except Hirohito, but thats irrelevant). US ignored their pleas
WW2: Didn't need to happen at all. The Brits hated Communism more than Facism - that's the only reason why this war happened. Lockerbie: Intelligence job
U.S.S. Liberty: Coverup
TWA flight 800: intelligence job
Clinton Chronicles: Clinton is clown, but I doubt theirs much truth to it.
1999 Chechan terrorist attacks in Russia. Putin and the FSB
7/7 bombings: intelligence job
1993 WTC bombings: We know this was FBI led
OKC bombing: This one was an especially obvious intelligence job
Kevin Trudeau: assclown
Cancer cures: My mom gave em a try - didn't save her.
Aspertame: WHY is this legal?
Fluoride: Useless in drinking water
Lyme Disease: The debunking of "Under Our Skin" has been pretty weak and unconvincing.
Holocaust: Happened. But you know what's stupid and unhelpful? Screaming at people for no reason who say that "6 million" is really more like "4 million".
Chiropractic: Sure, it can be unecessary and a money grab, but you're an idiot if you don't think your spine needs to be aligned correctly or can't be helped from a tune-up.
Acupuncture: stupid
FEMA camps: stupid
Obama Birth Cert: Frankly, who cares?
2001 Anthrax scare: We know it was an inside job, we just don't know who - but it very plausible to assume another intelligence op.
Underwear bomber: We know he had help... white people help.
Osama Assissination: Now THERE'S a clusterf*ck. Story kept changing and then thrown to sea....WHAT!!?? I'm trying to believe you Obama, but you're not making it easy.
Mumbia Attack: Headley
Biggie and Tupac: LOL who cares. Still good documentary
Princess Diana: VERY fishy
East Timor 1999: Australian intelligence
Flight 007: very fishy aswell
US behind all the recent social uprisings. No. Read a book.

I saved the best for last!
MONKEY BLOOD: Part 2 in the "Ring of Power" series. I beg you to watch this for epic lulz.

Welcome HWC. Quite the smorgastboard you've got there.

I'd remind people that this is the welcome thread, and I know it's tempting, but this is not the place to discuss any of the above topics. Any suchlike digressions will be deleted.

New topics in new threads.

For new member "Hot Wing Conspiracy": I agree, as a fairly new member myself. But, may I suggest? Choose one at a time, or else your plate might overflow.

Hi, I'm jack. This place is great! Here, you can toss out some interesting conspiracy theory element, and bright people debate it for you and often politely so! somewhat politely! It's unhealthy to discuss things in a group of like minded people. This is a great solution to that.

Good day all metabunkerites,or whatever term is more common.

I go by jaydeehess on most forums now although I had other handles several years ago. I began my posting on forums at theblacklist.com around 1997 or so. Tried Pravda.Ru and pilots for truth. The later accused me of being from "the government loyalsit" site. It took a few requests but they finally informed me that meant JREF, which I then signed up on shortly before being bannedf by Rob Balsamo from PfT.

I saw this site referred to on JREF and after reading a few threads decided to sign up.

I have a diploma in electronic technology, worked for Transport Canada for just under ten years which had me doing repair and maintenance on ground equipment in aircraft comm and nav as well as assisting radar techs. I spent 18 months in the high Arctic as both comm/nav tech and repair and maintenance of ground meteorological equipment including the radiosonde tracking equipment.
Owned a hardware store for five years, worked as a transmitter tech for TV Ontario (provincial public broadcaster) for another five years, and have now been at a small TV station owned by a large cableco, for 18 years.
Do the math, I'm old.

Now, hopefully my stints on other forums does not affect my being able to stay polite even if presented with support for utterly ridiculous theories. I do believe that I am up to it though. Mama always told me to be polite.:)
