Welcome Thread - New Members Post Here

Hello, living quite close to an airport I am used to seeing and hearing lots of aircraft movements. However, once in a while I spot something quite unusual, and where else to get informed comment on them but here!

Hope you publish my first post off the odd contrail spotted just recently!

A dear and highly-respected friend of mine recently told me about her chemtrail concerns. I told her I would research the topic and hopefully provide her with enough information and experiments so that she could prove to herself that chemtrails aren't real. This site has been exceptionally helpful in that research.

What is most interesting to me now is this - her belief in something that cannot be proven is so strong, that no matter what proof I offer, there is always a reason to discard or doubt that evidence. Now I find myself at a cross-roads of sorts. To accept that her belief just is something she needs so I should abandon reasoning with her, or to keep trying to show her science and facts are far better life companions than fear.

I have many facts. Now I am seeking wisdom.

It depends - if she says "they COULD be happening.." then you can nod sagely and agree.

If she says "they ARE happening and here's the PROOF..." then please pass the proof on to one and all, 'cos none of us have seen any such proof yet :)

And welcome :)

Thanks! Great advice. About passing on the proof.....think we'll all be waiting a very long time for that!

Welcome! It does seem that some people "need" to believe in something to give them a purpose in life. It's a shame they can't devote all that passion and energy to some real cause instead.

Good luck anyway. Without taking this thread too far off topic, can I suggest that you meet your friend, ideally on a day when "chemtrails" are visible in the sky, and show her the Flightradar24 app which identifies each plane as it flies over. Seeing that those aren't sinister unmarked planes but everyday flights from big airlines ought to make her think.

Thank you! This is precisely what I will do. Together she and I will find proof together...and evaluate what it means.

depending on her personality.. different evidence resonates with different people i believe... there are threads such as these too

Wow, I've had something like that occurring for a while now. Been seeing an old friend go down the rabbit hole in regards to "the secret powers who control our lives", and at this point he's really become quite the drag to talk to - in fact, apparently his wife has asked him to shut up about his obsession when in larger groups of people, as he really tends to suck the life out any spirited discussion.
But this past weekend, he went further out while the two of us were BBQ'ing in the back yard, and started talking about chemtrails. Normally, out of friendship, I half-listen to his gloom and doom, making a counterpoint now and again. But after hearing him start talking about chemtrails, I couldn't help but inform him he was talking a whole crock of sh**. I asked him to think of it this way - he's thinking about moving into a five-story apartment building, and the chemtrail people occupy the topmost apartment. The basement apartment is occupied by the Sandy Hook Twoofers.
Although he did backtrack to safer conversational ground, I doubt he's dropped the chemtrails crunk altogether. I did ask him, for the sake of friendship, to please research the subject further by reading up on chemtrail debunking, and yes, I did mention Metabunk as a possible source.

Wow. I'm not alone! Thanks for the great story! I mentioned metabunk to my friend. Here's crossing my fingers they'll take our advice. Wow...

Hi! Brand new to this site!

Greetings & Salutations from Australia,

I stumbled upon this wonderfully informative site by complete accident and after having seen the caliber and intellect of contributors on here throughout various discussions, I felt an urge to subscribe and join in the discussion with some intelligent people for a change.

I am an Audio Visual Technician by trade and in my spare time I thoroughly enjoy watching documentaries on just about every genre available. The areas that interest me the most are Science & Technology, History, Philosophy, Society, Military, The Animal Kingdom, Nature, The Supernatural & have more recently started rummaging through the Conspiracy tab on my preferred Documentary Sites. Now please don't get me wrong, for I am most definitely not, one of those tin foil hat wearing, sub-ordinate fools who subscribe to the many outlandish claims I see on the internet. I simply have an interest in exploring the frontiers of the unknown and enjoy the thrill of a well written mystery.

However, on a personal level, I have recently been drawn into debate with an ex-friend and some colleagues of mine about this dubious topic of Chem Trails. Having been involved in debating at school and enjoying a good argument/discussion, I found, that to be fair to the discussion, I would try to inform myself with the facts and fallacies surrounding this more modern "Conspiracy Theory"

Upon reading both sides of the story, whilst having a father in-law, whom was an accomplished Commercial Pilot having accrued 1000's of hours of flight time and, in addition to being closely related to an esteemed, high ranking Liberal Government Premier of State, I.... A. Understand the Physics and Facts of "Contrails" & B. Will not believe that our current or Former Government, would willfully partake in such activities, as these entertaining conspiracy theorists would try to have you believe. I agree with Mick wholeheartedly that such topics are driven merely to promote profit, resulting in fear mongering, the creation of dissidents and more importantly, distract the populous from focusing on more pressing issues.

Finally, I would like to commend you Mick West on your efforts in offering a well meaning platform for those who wish to logically discuss this alongside many other issues, issues that need a jolly good de-bunking. This is a fantastic and well presented site/forum and for that, I salute you.

Let the debate begin!!!

Welcome and g'day!

My name is Jim and I came here to check out the debunking of the spinning solar contraption from V3Solar. My mind was blown but not because of the debunking. I was already certain this contraption was BS before I visited your site. What blew my mind were two things: 1. Mick West's description of how people scam investors and how it's almost impossible to charge this type of scammer with a crime. 2. I'm an electrical engineer and I've been fascinated with alternative energy since I was a child. When I read that this scam had been around at least a hundred years, I remembered that I had seen more than a few "inventions" in my lifetime that seemed highly improbable. This type of scam is probably very, very common because it's almost impossible to get caught. It's the proverbial perfect crime.

Welcome @Jim Seko! Yes, I'm amazed too at how "free energy" (not that the V3Solar thing was free energy, exactly) scams continue to proliferate, how people keep falling for them and how the perpetrators always seem to get away with it. I remember the Steorn scam from a few years back. Millions of euros were invested in it, apparently, and no comeback.

Hi, My Name is Ken. On the radio I am N6KB. I like to think of myself as someone who makes decisions and takes actions based on reason and science. Nevertheless I acknowledge emotion and other influences that are not necessarily reasonable. After all how much sense does quantum physics make? I am fascinated by conspiracy theories and I believe each should be judged on it's own merits, or in most cases lack thereof.

Hello all, I'm Solid. I found this site through watching the videos of Myles Power, a Youtuber who makes fantastic skeptical videos about 9/11, GMO's, and the like. I'm a clinical psychologist by training, though currently I'm a Sailor onboard an aircraft carrier in the Pacific. Long story. I find people in my neck of the Navy who buy into all manner of bunk thoughts, and I had a lot of trouble finding a reliable source of facts and information. Needless to say, I found a good place to hang my hat here, especially since you helped me find truth behind a bit of bunk I had a hard time finding the right evidence for, namely the Titanic/Olympic Fraud conspiracy. Rather fittingly nautical.

Oh, by the way, my specialty onboard is aircraft, and I'll tell you, we get a really good government discount on bottles of aircraft-grade aluminum spray aerosol...I mean....uh oh.

thank you for the greeting and welcome.
I am simply a person who found a link about the Loch Ness UFO (which I determined immediately to be a trick of light somehow, refraction, reflection ...) and decided it was a worth while site to vist occasionally. see Y;all around

Metabunk members,

I am a professional Chef interested in food science, agriculture, vaccines, and the conspiratorial mind. I am a member of a skeptical society and enjoy engaging experts in the fields I am interested in to further my understanding.

Cheers!

Welcome, I am new as well, but I did not recently discover this.
I am reading this for a long time now and got over my fear to write in a language I do not master.

One thing I can tell you: Here you find people with brains, no matter what opinion they have.

Your written english is excellant. In my opinion.

Your written english is excellant. In my opinion.

My English is well enough to point tourists the way.
But not when it becomes technical from within my profession.
Slang is not even a good word for it.
We have words that even the Dutch cannot understand if not enclosed into my profession.
Like me telling a sailor to turn right and he goes starboard, and me going down do the kitchen to find out that they have none, they send me to the galley.
The problem pops up when it becomes technical

that happens in English too though. With science subjects, we laymen trying to understand the science [language] is like trying to translate a different language. So youre in good company at Metabunk :)

Greetings fellow discussionists!
An all new and shiny 'un here for the board which on I've been secretly making my rounds these past days.
As a curious soul who wishes to hone her skills in the field of debunking bullshit and to meet other skeptics in the process, I couldn't sit back passively any longer. I'm fairly flexible in regards to topics of interest.
A merry good day to you all!

Welcome newcomers.... I would recommend becoming familiar with how to avoid using logical fallacies in presenting your case, these mistakes will not sway anyone on here and will often be pointed out when employed. Please provide a link to where information you are citing can be found and verified. Also, there is a lot of subject matter covered in these forums and quite often a newcomer will bring up a subject that has already been thoroughly covered, it would save time and energy to search the forums to see if something has already been addressed and either proven or debunked. http://www.csun.edu/~dgw61315/fallacies.html
Thank you kindly for the valuable advice. :D

Hi, I'm jakesteele and brand new to this site. I live in Seattle, 64 yrs. old, white male. I like to study Quantum Mechanics, which I can't figure out or understand, and I'm currently reading Alice in Quantum Land because it has no mathematical equations. I'm also an ardent reader of Sci Fi, I like to write, I'm a PhD level audiophile(sounds nasty, but it isn't) majoring in classical rock and minoring in just about everything else.

I look forward to being on this site and I hope to learn way more than I could ever teach.

Welcome

Greetings !
Oblomov from Callas (France)...I discovered your forum by clicking a link (about Martian Rabbits) on the leplus.nouvelobs.com site.

France offers the world a good deal of bunk, passively and actively. I live just a few miles from Trans-en-Provence, and I am old enough to remember the famous UFO landing (1981) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trans-en-Provence_Case

Looking forward to participating in your discussions.

One small beef (pun) the verification question "how many eyes does a cow have" begged the answer "two" which I duly typed.
However, I maintain that "that depends" or "one, if the other eye was poked out" would be equally valid responses.

I imagine this was a trick question to weed out deranged or demented posters.
However this is relatively easy to bypass.

You'll need to do better than that!

PS I noticed this on checking my post :

Aha!
So paranormal visitors CAN read it?

I dont know how I got here but after registration went on to a thread "is homoepathy bunk".
After the first post, lots of alerts appeared, stating its a new account and to wait for my comments before they are visible, debunking policy etc etc.

Now what I was only trying to do is to debunk a bunk, i.e homoeopathy works.

BUT, now since all my reply/post/comment privileges are suspended and am no longer to exchange my ideas with others, I might as well un-register. Hope thats not a problem.

If you're still reading, Bunkmanship, every account goes through that trial period as a final defense against spam. Once your first couple messages are validated it goes away.

I had the same thing when I registered; we all did.

Welcome! We hope you come back!

Ah, finally worked out the right buttons. (I'm an old hand on Facebook, but fairly new to these topical sites) I'm old, interested in political theory, dismayed by the amount of disinformation around in regards to the Ukraine conflict. I have a blog! Only a simple one, but it's a start. I really only came on because there was something about Luhansk posted. It might be about that dogy "video". I must have a look right now!

Hello,

I found this place, if I'm remembering right, through searching for debunkings of Sandy Hook conspiracies. Not because I thought they might be true, they just kind of made me angry and I wanted to see the claims picked apart.

I really like watching and reading debunkings, and I have a thing for signing up for forums (I believe this is forum #11 for me), so I figured I might as well sign up here. I'm not really well read in any science field, but I already nitpick things like crazy, so I hope I can at least make one or two contributions.
