I think you'll find many of us here come from religious backgrounds, as such some are knowledgeable in things like assorted "end-times" claims. Hopefully, we can assuage some of your concerns, or at least try to put them in perspective. Welcome.

Hello. I'm a 74 year old tech entrepreneur based in Minnesota. Many years ago I used to do photo analysis for Minnesota MUFON, except they got mad at me because I could never confirm a still or video sequence as truly unexplainable. There was one case, about a decade ago, that still has me stumped. I wrote it up and could share a PDF if anyone wants to take a shot at helping me figure out what it was. The MUFON folks I worked with claimed it was window reflections, but the data seems to be something else. What's cool about this is that the nature of the video permitted a 3 d reconstruction including physical measurement estimates of the event. Is this something I can upload for critique?

Hello all, I just found Metabunk. What a great resource, I don't know why it took me so long to find it. I spend quite a lot of time on Facebook arguing with flat-Earthers, Chemtrail believers, antivaxxers and the like. My approach is usually one of polite insistence. I know I won't convince the person I'm arguing with because if they are far enough down the rabbit hole to be posting about it on social media they are beyond help, but hopefully I can give those folks who are just conspiracy-curious and are reading the thread something to think about.
I do this because truth is important. Never more so than today when lies are being monetised and weaponised on an industrial scale.

Hi all — long-time reader, finally registering.

I've been going through the Metabunk archives on lens flares, bokeh and camera artifacts in UFO footage, and it's changed how I look at basically every clip that gets passed around. The Chilean Navy IR case in particular is a good lesson in how far a "we can't identify it" conclusion is from "it's anomalous."

My own interest is less in the footage and more in what happens to the witnesses afterwards. I spend a lot of time reading first-hand accounts of sightings, and the recurring pattern that gets me is how quickly a group of people who all saw the same thing converge on a mundane explanation — often within days, and often one that doesn't fit the details they originally gave. Weather balloon, drones, "must have been a plane." I'm curious whether that's straightforward social conformity, memory reconstruction, or just people not wanting to be the one still insisting.

Mostly here to learn how to take apart the visual claims properly. Happy to be told when I'm wrong.
