Welcome Thread - New Members Post Here

Hello! Been following Mick on twitter since I found his videos referenced by a few youtubers I follow like Anton Petrov and Joe Scott. Twitter's relentless vitriol is getting to be a bit much for me (I don't know how Mick puts up with it, the man has the patience of a saint) so I thought I'd make an account here to follow investigations in a (hopefully) calmer setting.

I did have a question -- are posts on debunking claims of new physics and perpetual motion machines allowed? In the past I went pretty far down the rabbit hole on alternative physics and reactionless engines such as the "emdrive" (I was a mod on r/emdrive, back in the day). I was kind of surprised to not find any topics here on that subject, as I always thought the crossover interest between UFO's and alternative physics was pretty high.

Hi, very happy to have found this site.
I found similarities between the Father Christmas myth and the God myth that I was told to believe in as a child were impossible to ignore. I think that's where my scepticism may originate from. I discovered the likes of Harris, Dawkins and of course, Hitchens on YouTube later in life and discovered a platform to debate theists. (YouTube also lead me to this site through the Mick West videos.) I've been fascinated with the psychology of belief ever since. We've seen the harmful effects religious belief can have on societies, and with the advent of the internet, the harm that irrationality and self deception can foster is spreading to other areas of life.
Anything we can do to promote critical thinking should be pursued with enthusiasm.

Hi, I'm Andrew from Gloucester, UK. Looking forward to exploring this forum. I love investigating and finding out the truth. I really like the way Mick West and Co explain things so clearly. Keep up the good work.

Hi, I am from Hong Kong. So glad to be a metabunk member. I've been viewing this forum and following Mick West's FB for a while. Looking forward to sharing information with you guys

Hello everyone.

I would not describe myself as a debunker however I love a good mystery (especially the UFO/UAP stuff). I have been lurking here a while reading threads. Very interesting stuff!

Hello folks!

It's great to be on this fantastic website. I am a hobby photographer and blogger. I debunk bunks in politics and world affairs. I will read and check the posting guidelines each time before posting. And now I'm off to read what there is to see and discover here on this site.

Hi heard of this when I listened to Tales from the Rabbit Hole after becoming interested in UAPs from the news. I was getting into X-Files and generally find the whole talk of aliens entertaining to follow. Like Fox Mulder I want to believe, but like Scully I remain a skeptic.

I love a good conspiracy, especially the real ones ;)

Just dropped in to say hello! I found this website while trying exhaustingly to educate myself about UAP events that've been discussed recently. A lot of great information on here, and very intelligent people! I needed to find actual sources and calculations that made sense. Cheers!

Hello! You came to my attention with the Tic Tac discussion, and I was finally convinced to join by the Calvine photo. I've been interested in UFOs since I was a kid in the 70s, hung out on alt.paranet in the 90s, ran the website for the short-lived ASUFORA in the early 2000s. I spend lockdown writing The Scottish UFO Casebook from the MoD files at the National Archives, AFU and the National Library of Scotland newspaper archives. Just the facts! And fully-referenced!

I guess UFOs have always been part of my life. Have seen a dozen and conventionally explained eleven! (So far!)

Hello. I came across this forum via Reddit a little while back and was amazed by some of the great efforts to clarify UFOs etc, watched a bunch of Mick's YouTube videos. Been stalking the Calvine threads with fascination over the last few days. Not sure why I've signed up to be honest, maybe I can help somewhere at some point? Have some links to medical research and a physics degree, who knows? Also I'm a gamer and enjoyed your games, Mick :P

Good morning to everyone:
I am terribly sorry I ought have popped in here to introduce myself.
I apologise that I posted before doing so a number of times.

So I'm quite approachable quite normal I don't believe in alien visitation no more than I believe in those friendly goblins that sing dance and serenade every morning at the bottom of my garden:

I'm English and I live in Tasmania and I have resided here for 14 years or more.
Soon to be a citizen of this amazing country.

My life rotates around studying and photographing nature / wildlife and I do so professionally.
My 'thing' niche is very large prints starting with A3 and upwards to silly sizes.

I have restored damaged photographs since Moses was little and I repair to museum grades.

I live to learn and I'm constantly learning to live.

I know quite a bit but have more to learn than I could ever wish.
I am constantly thirsty for knowledge.
I'm not a photo snob and do not and never will judge another persons work to belittle but I shall afford many well done you's.
I have taught Mr. and Mrs. average basics of photography and many had point and shoot cameras and I tell everyone the same'' The only reasons for us professionals is because were all so bloomin addicted and spend money on lenses that once cost more than the cars I have driven.
I have more ' not quite so good ' photos than gallery standard and anyone that says differently is a fibber :)

Never look down on any photograph for they contain a moment in time that is precious always to someone

Thank you.
Chelle.

Hi @Chelle Tassy. We have a few Aussies here - I came from England age 11 in 1952 - been legally an Aussie for about thirty years. I'm on the "North Island" - Moss Vale NSW. Have fun.

Hello everyone !
I find discovery thru dissection, intuition & counterintuitive strategies a wonderful way to engage life. As an artist and teacher I've always found the deepest truths lay in the wonder of the self through the universe, and honest Identity by the still unknown.

Hello there and welcome :)

Hello everyone!
I was a young person that got hooked on conspiracy theories since 2007-2008, when online video platforms were new and simple. At that time, debunking lies and conspiracy arguments/rhetoric was non-existent, as far as I knew or saw. Barely since 2012 or 2013, I remember seeing or reading the first ever materials that tried to debunk baseline conspiracy theories, nothing heavy at that time.

With time passing, discovering more and more discussions on debunking these old conspiracy theories, from UFOs to 9/11 to metaorganisations that meet every full moon to plan what to do in the world, I figured I got caught up in a very malevolent complex web of lies, paranoia, and proverbial brain-rotting ideas that are dishonorable for human rationality, logic, empiricism and... dignity.

How I got hooked up on them? Being born in Eastern Europe, you could literally not know anything, or discuss anything meaningful, with people around you, without the usual answer: "Something is up" or "There's something rotten in the middle of it". Later did I discovered into history & historiography that the Communist world was champion in seeding conspiracy hypotheses or theories, accusations, general distrust, and chaos, as a means to destabilise societies and, with luck, destabilise countries. Even into themselves, conspiracy theories were a method in themselves to control populations with fear, doubt, distrust, and societal fragmentation. The "art" of inventing conspiracy theories is a lot, lot older that, even to this, day, people are (in)directly suffering because of centuries-old propaganda and conspiracies.

In a way, getting into conspiracy theories was my faulty way to develop my critical thinking ("Question everything") since the country, the society I was born in, was and still is a deadend in meaningful discussions. In this regard, the internet was both a blessing and a curse.
I've unhooked myself from conspiracy theories for quite a while but only now did I discovered a forum dedicated to debunk various conspiracy and where I could find, at hand, various materials & indexed in one place rather than depend on multiple sites.

This thread is for any first time poster to (optionally) post an introductory "hi everyone" post, which will also get you "verified" (meaning you can post without anti-spam restrictions) once that post, and a few posts in another sub-forum, have been approved.

A few words on who you are and how you ended up here would be appreciated. Or just say hi!

Hello,

I've read threads from this site for several years, maybe the last six or seven years, especially about the WTC attacks. I have argued a lot of issues on several Internet forums, ever since 1996. I have a technical background that includes an AAS and certificate in Laser Electro-Optic Technology, an AS and certificate in Computer Science and an AAS in Computer Systems/Information Systems. I've taken additional classes in Photography and Business; I've completed most of the requirements for an AAS in GIS. I enjoy reading and discussing the physical sciences and space exploration. I served in the US Navy as a Machinist Mate and I was a volunteer fireman for two years. My interest in 9/11 conspiracy theories goes back to January 2013.

i enjoy good conversations, but these days almost all of the conversations i have are with people who don't even check their facts or they are unwilling to get into details beyond their preconceptions (which are provided to them via popular press headlines).

Hello everyone,
My relevant background is in investigating, experimenting with, and debunking many of the various speculative propulsion claims made by fringe scientists. Usually this involves some kind of propellant-less or reactionless "thruster" device they have built which may appear to show thrust in an experiment, but under scrutiny ends up being a false-positive. For example, I was able to show in simulations and by replicating the thrust measurement apparatus, that the signal from the so-called Mach Effect Thruster is almost certainly a false-positive vibration artifact. So if it's about dean drives, inertial thrusters, impulse engines, emdrives, quantized inertia, or whatever, I've probably seen it, and I have seen no convincing evidence that any of them produce real thrust.

For the last seven years I have been posting to the New Physics for Space Technology forum at NasaSpaceFlight, where we discuss and investigate these fringe propulsion claims. When the gimbal and go-fast videos were released, many fringe scientists said these videos were evidence for advanced propulsion being real, with some of them even claiming their tech is what UAPs use for propulsion. This brought me to Mick West's analyses of the videos, which I agree are the most likely explanations, and then to the Metabunk forums.

Since there is so much overlap in the fringe propulsion community and the UAP community it makes sense that I come here too. Thanks for reading and I look forward to lurking less and posting more!

Hello. I go by Ratking. I hope to be able to assist in high level debunking efforts at some point. Cybersec grad with an interest in debunking. Happy to be here.

Hi Folks,
I came across your site while reading about UFOs. How do I post an article for discussion? The article shows the relationship between UFOs and other NATURAL phenomena, it proves that most UFOs are of natural origin.

Review the forum rules under the "Info" heading on the site navigation menu. For most of the forums, a discussion starter must provide evidence of a claim, and this evidence must be shown entirely in that post, quoting sources where necessary/appropriate.

What you have in mind seems suitable for the Chitchat forum, as there seems to be nothing to debunk? Excerpt (quote!) the parts of the article you'd like the discussion to focus on, and give it a go!

Hi I had to create an account here because I feel this is a better place to discuss UFOs rather than r/UFOs and other echo-chambers full of non-sense posts.

New on the block. Hello all. I like Mick's thoughtful videos.
I'm wondering if there is a spot on this site that lists some of the common resources Mick and others use in the process of debunking.
The one that brought me here tonight is wondering which aircraft flight history site Mick uses to get the flight path info for a particular GPS location on an old date/time. Anybody know?

Often the answer is hiding in plain (or plane) sight...

I'm a pioneer, I'm an explorer, I'm a human, and I'm coming.

Hi! I´m a musician and artist from Sweden. I consider myself a friendly skeptic, meaning I always try to be respectful, reasonable and friendly in discussions. As a child I believed in just about everything supernatural, but with age I´ve become more and more of a skeptic. My biggest interest (except art) is space and astro physics, so when it comes to conspiracy theories I would say UFO:s are on top of the list, and like many other I long for the non-debunkable UFO video. :)

Hi my name is Herb! I live in west Texas on the border of Mexico and the state of New Mexico. I'm over 50 years old. I enjoy learning, mainly to get to know about other people and what motivates them.

I have read the agreement to be polite and agree to its rules.
I have also read the post guide lines and agree to follow them.

Very respectfully,
Herb

Hi there. I am an academic and pretty much study every field I possibly can find the time to. I major in history so that's the only thing I can claim backed up subject matter knowledge in, but I have a lot of interesting experience in the Air Force as a Pashtu language analyst.

I really love learning about alternative ideas (being respectful) to anything! I write fiction and science fiction as well and it has given me lots of inspiration, unironically. (Sadly I had to drop a lot of it because since 2010 it seems like a lot of these conspiracy theories are now dangerous and I don't want to encourage them through fiction :\ )

My call to fame is when a fundamentalist religious site actually cited my fiction wiki I used to track my worldbuilding! Which was, of course, very funny to see. Tracking outside hyperlinks to your website is very useful. I, of course, changed the page (because I knew they would never check again) to put more respectful and real information in case anyone was actually worried about the subject at hand. That particular article also became an entire conspiracy in itself (independently), which is another reason I dropped it.

I've had writers block for years now because of having to deal with all this stuff. I just like the occult and witch stuff for fun. Too many people ended up doing it for real though :\

Tonight is the full moon. Beware!

Ruby

Hi.

With the UFO phenomenon, I have gone from curious to believer, to sceptic, to curious, to skeptic again and don't quite know where I am now :D
I will try out this now and see :)

Hi, heard about this forum from Mick West's twitter account. Came here in particular for the discussions around the Calvine UFO. Have stayed as this reminds me of the old Randi forums I used to enjoy. May post sporadically if I have anything interesting to say.

I'm not sure there's much a line between curious and skeptic. We, too, would like to know there's aliens, but we won't just believe it without good evidence.

Hello, I'm Alex from Wales. I create rendered art, if you can call it that! I have always been fascinated by unusual phenomena and the lengths some people will go to fake evidence of that phenomena. I came here after watching a few of Mick West's Youtube videos. Fascinating stuff!
