Seaside Heights, Ocean County, New Jersey - Claimied drone sighting weekend 11th - 12th January 2025

And what is the explanation? That's a 44-minute video; can you give a summary?
Hi Mick,

Thanks for catching some poor wording. I fixed the sentence to say "A full explanation of the circumstances of this event can be found here:"

Of course I have no explanation for what these objects I have been recording actually are. I hope one day we find out.

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback.

Allsky cameras typically are set up with some automatic exposure settings. On dark sky nights the camera I showed was set up for 10 second exposures. However, there were a lot of clouds on the night I showed with the strange object (white curved line with two blue dots) in between clouds. So the automatic exposure setting kicked in and brought the exposure time down to 2.3 seconds. The frame I showed with the strange object had a total exposure of 2.3 seconds.

My allsky camera now has a nice big lens on it and I can now get 5 second exposures throughout a dark sky night, even here in light pollution infested Albany area.

The only thing that showed some potential for strange properties that I recorded that night on my night vision scope was this very fast moving object I showed. I was surprised that nothing showed up on the allsky camera - but maybe the object seen in the night vision scope was moving too fast. As I said in the video, not sure what that object could be but it doesn't have enough highly anomalous features to be called a UAP in my book.

I have lots of other night vision recordings of "interesting" things, but nothing truly compelling (yet - I can hope right?).

I forgot to provide the github repository link: https://github.com/rickavila/opensci.uap

Yes, all videos I provide have full metadata including time, location etc. The only thing I tried to pull out of the data was my exact iphone serial number. I also give the date and time of each UAP sighting in the video on the top left hand corner.

No time/date/locations that I could see.

Having watched the full video I would have a laundry list of compliments with the approach. At the end you say open to questions and criticisms (no transcript available yet) so:-
  • You call the video " Open Science UAP Introduction" what science or Anomalous Phenomena did you show?
  • Your timeline runs for approx. 18 months and you never mention Flightradar24 or any celestial or satellite tracking?

These should be easy to answer. Politely and respectively I dont wish the troll tru the video line by line

That is not the standard here at Metabunk. Please provide a full explanation so the reader does not have to click to find it. Please review the Posting Guidelines.

I apologize for not meeting the requirements of this forum. I will fix that as soon as possible today. I have a lot meetings right now but should get you all a good set of text on this sighting later today.

The first video I posted on YouTube was intended to introduce an Open Science approach to studying UAP sightings. Open Science is defined as making scientific research including publications, data, physical samples, software, and models, transparent and accessible to all levels of society through collaborative networks (from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_science). So providing all of the original source videos and some analysis qualifies as working in with an Open Science approach.

Now I also put a lot time and consulted many scientists and engineers to analyze these sightings (UAP videos 1 to 7). My first analysis can be found in a second video focused on UAP #5. Again, all of the calculations, software, methods, etc. are given at the github repository or other standard places (excel spreadsheet apps, image j, etc.).

Finally, I have spent my whole career contributing to Open Source software and supporting Open Science. I think what I am doing making everything available is Open Science and hope many more people in the UAP community do the same.

I actually do show a stellarium screenshot in the second video I published in Youtube. I checked all sites I thought were relevant for each sighting but did not show all screenshots on my videos to keep them viewable and keep the production time down. But if you see something that looks like I may have missed an important data point, by all means let me and everyone know.

I am after the truth, whatever that may be and am willing to be corrected if data indicates something other than what I presented.

this may be a fair point its a data. I dont think is data of any Anomalous Phenomena.

reference the scientist and engineers or at least display what they have said that's supported with science and evidence.

we can only really give feedback on what you post, maybe start a thread. with one individual video and claim.

You didnt feel the need mention that around the IR video showing the streaks? if you said I checked here, and here etc and you found nothing thats something that could be confirmed and maybe you missed checking some.

Again with all due respect, I personally see a lot of confirmation bias in the video you linked here.
  • Why was the IR streak video not a bug the was attracted to you as you turn the camera on? I already asked you were you close and was this the only time it appeared.
  • The object in at the 17min mark, you say have lots of video of it, why are you showing this one, is it because you believe its the best.
  • The horse cloud video why is it not a bird how did you calculated the distance and speed?
  • The 25min video why is not a bug, why is it important it appeared on that date and in the first video you made and not the 17th.
  • The video at the 31min mark what is the zoom level on your phone how did it effect what your seeing? Didnt you see the digital artifacting around the plane. Why did you look at flight radar and gets it altitude when you mentioning the distance to object.
Like i said the laundry list could be as long as my arm on every single video displayed in this video, and I dont see the scientific method being applied. Birds and Balloons and everyday objects/Phenomena explain everything and i didnt see any evidence to the contrary supplied.

Personally Im not going to troll the GitHub and unless these and other very basic question are answered, and I don't think what was presented was science. Maybe thats my confirmation bias

edit:lots of typos-im having a bad day on that

OK - lets get the location right. I filmed this NJ drone video in Seaside Park, NJ, not Seaside Heights.

The reason I posted my drone or potential UAP video here because I saw that it had been discussed here a fair amount at the time it was aired on News Nation and I felt I owed it to this group to give the full details including the original iphone video recording. As I stated in my first Open Science UAP Introduction video "It might just be a military aircraft..."

Now on to what exactly happened. I drove down to Seaside Park, NJ on January 11, 2025 with two PVS-14 night vision devices which were set up to independently record night vision. I set up both night vision scopes on tripods that evening on the boardwalk entrance to the beach despite the brutally cold temperature and winds (30 mph winds with gusts likely over 50 mph). Shortly into the recording a massive wind gust came through throwing all of my night vision gear onto the ground and breaking several 3D printed components. So I packed up my gear and went back to my rented room, fixed up my gear with tape, warmed up, and then head out the door to get some more night vision filming accomplished.

As I walked out of the 111 22nd Ave, Seaside Park rental at 7:10pm (within walking distance north of the Seaside State Park entrance) I saw a bright white light with a rapidly blining red light heading generally South and likely over the Barnegut Bay intercoastal waterway region. I could not recognize any aircraft surfaces or shape, but it was dark so who knows what it was. I pulled out my iphone 16 pro max and video recorded the object as it headed south until it went behind some of the nearby buildings. After that I headed out to film again with my night vision scopes. I did not see or record anything compelling after that event. It was still very windy and brutally cold given the wind chill.

I checked adsbexchange.com for any nearby aircraft and could not find anything over that water and nearby land area fitting the flight path. I did see that a police helicopter took off around 10 minutes after the event and headed for the area near where I first saw the drone/UAP when I walked out of my rental.

The original iphone video can be found here:

There you have it. Let me know if you have any further questions.

I really don't think you are going to get much resolution beyond that. Given the time on your video, there's no matching aircraft. However it LOOKS like a human aircraft of some sort. Probably not a drone given the quite wide spacing of lights. Probably a helicopter or light plane.

I agree with the thought it probably is unresolvable. Not sure how you say: "However it LOOKS like a human aircraft of some sort."

So what exactly in the image/video tells you its a helicopter or aircraft? If a helicopter I expect to have heard some sound of helicopter blades. the size of the red and white lights subtend a large enough angle to strongly suggest it was flying close to the camera. But there was no helicopter sound. If its an aircraft, why no other lights (red and green) other than a white light and a red blinking light at 120 blinks/min? FAA requires an anti collision red light blink rate to be between 40 and 100 blinks / min.

Thanks - Rick

It looks more like 90 blinks per minute to me, about 1.5 hz

The video has a variable frame rate, which can lead to some software, including Sitrec, which I'm fixing, playing back some segments at the wrong rate.

And the light layout seemed a pretty good match just for the first helicopter I randomly selected in Sitrec.

Rough match with that helicopter about 3/4 of a mile away

This is using a dev version of Sitrec, I'll post the sitch later, after it ships.
