Restaurant Caught Serving Human

Interestingly, I followed the link in the OP, then "Googled", and found the exact same story (also from "The Independent") online, but dated
nine months ago!:

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/w...-on-the-menu-shut-down-by-police-9123693.html

Yet the 'tagline' date in the OP is dated 15 November, 2014. Something smells here.

(Both "sources" are identical).

Is it more possible that "The Independent" is a tabloid that just makes stuff up? Similar to several examples that I could mention, here in the USA....such as the "National Enquirer" and a few others?

Example: The
"Weekly World news".

And also satirical "spoofs", who make fun of the above:
"The Onion".

Meh... the original source is a Nigerian tabloid, the Osum Defender, no other Nigerian news outlet seem to have picked up the story. Until this is independently corroborated, I'd file it under "dubious".

No, the Independent is a proper newspaper

Really? Do you stand by this assertion, when presented with the facts?

(Adding....the implication that "Human Meat" was carved the the skull? Seriously? I am just another fellow
human being who happens to know where a LOT of other "meat" could be "harvested" off my body, if someone
so desired.

(My "skull" is NOT the most muscular area....). (Just sayin').....

....UNLESS? The Human head is somehow "interesting" for the 'brains'?? (MANY apologies, in advance):

((deleted a video originally posted. Reference was to a scene from a movie, where "monkey brains" were served, as a "delicacy". Since monkeys, apes and Humans tend to tangentially share common brain aspects, I thought it appropriate....but changed my mind. ((That's what HUMAN brains can do....change.....)).

(PS...I think everyone knows this film, from Spielberg? Do I have to be more specific??)

I am confused. The article is from February, it is that todays date is the 15th November, most newspaper websites have todays date at the header do they not?

I am equally "confused" as to the relevance, here....based on the oddness (or, "disparity") of the dates.

Hence, my assertion it is completely "bogus"!!

The actual incident was from August 2013, and it appears that it may have been a set up due to some form of turf war. There a few sites running support for the restaurants owner e.g.

Also a good description of events by Chief Mokwe's wife here on Facebook.

I'm calling "fake."

Oh...just as I was about to type stuff about August 2013, David popped it in here... :)

An unsubstantiated "article" by a Tope Richards" in Nigeria, in very early Aug. '13
seems to be the first instance...
http://justarcane.blogspot.com/2013/08/hotel-selling-cooked-human-meat.html#

after that, it seems to be repeated, verbatim, with zero fact-checking or additional
information (right down to the informal ending: "Lord have mercy!" dozens of times...

p.s. After reading David's lengthy link, it's hard to know what, if anything, actually
happened in early August '13...but the principal assertion, the selling of cooked human meat, does not seem to be credible.

What disparity? I have clicked on both the OP link and yours and it has November at the top and the article date is from February. What is odd about that?

The Independent is a reputable UK newspaper, yes. I work in the industry and I can state that with total confidence. It is not a "tabloid". Well, like virtually all of the broadsheet newspapers it is now actually printed in a physical tabloid format, but it is not a tabloid in the sense of "scandal sheet".

As other people have stated, the date on the article is 12 February. It hasn't been republished as far as I can see. The date at the very top of the website is just today's date.

It is not uncommon for online editions to have an old publication appearing amongst automatically selected "today's trends". For example, on the BBC News site, I saw on many occasions an old headline "Sudan man forced to 'marry' goat" in their "Most Popular" box.

I found the story published earlier, Aug 05 2013.
http://news2.onlinenigeria.com/news/top-stories/308557-onitsha-hotel-uses-human-meat-for-food.html
Appears to be a legit News outlet.
.
There is less detail in the earlier article so evidently someone did do some research in between that and the stories others have linked to.
.
As to no meat on a head, eating brains is not so unusual in come cultures.
Even in the US some stores carry beef brains.
.
Different version here.
http://guardianlv.com/2014/02/canni...g-human-meat-and-other-people-eating-stories/
.
Cannibalism in modern times is not unknown in the area as the last and next links show.
(Is not the focus of the next article but described in moderate detail.)

.
.
I can't call this one debunked but I'm not confident it's true either.
That said, it would not surprise me if it's true.
