Copenhagen airport closure due to reported drone activity

The Dutch docu 'drone panic in Europe', that first aired on May 2nd, is finally available on Youtube. It has auto generated subs, which can be translated if needed. Official English subs will be added soon.

The episode features various journalists, fact-checkers and defence specialists. Among them are TV 2 Danmark journalist Peter Møller, VRT NWS editor-in-chief Luc van Bakel, VRT NWS fact-checker Rien Emmery and yours truly. Military and geopolitical analysis is provided by defence specialist Patrick Bolder, retired lieutenant general Mart de Kruif and Danish defence researcher Peter Viggo Jakobsen.

I have a subscription on it, is that a new article or the old one where she first stood forward ?
It's an old one, but the first time I've seen it and as English and Irish journalists had cited Copenhagen I wanted to put the key facts out in English.

It's a good example of where helicopters have again added to the confusion.

There's a report out now that supposedly confirms the drone findings, but they're being very evasive about it. (in Danish).

The Danish Defence concludes that there were drones over Denmark in the autumn in connection with the EU summit, which was held in Copenhagen.

This is according to the Defence's long-awaited investigation into the observations, says Defense Minister Jeppe Bruus (S) at a press conference on Friday.

"Based on technical information and reports from soldiers, the Defence concludes that in several cases there were drones," he said.
However, neither Jeppe Bruus nor Michael Hyldgaard answer the key question about who was behind the drone incidents.

At the press conference, several journalists are trying to pressure them to answer – without success.

"We don't have a physical drone in hand," Jeppe Bruus said if you can trust the authorities when they don't answer whether they know where the drones were coming from.
The defence chief is not answering the key question either.

We base our conclusions on the soldiers' observations. I want to put my emphasis on that, says Michael Hyldgaard.

He elaborates that the evaluation has not investigated who is behind it.

It was a joke of a press conference!

The whole thing relied on witness reports from soldiers, and we know how little eyewitness testimony is worth when it isn't accompanied by photos or video.

But there were some new timestamps released from the Borris shooting incident, so I decided to make a short Sitrec simulation.

I don't know if everyone is aware of this, but the Danish police have concluded their investigation and found no evidence of any drones at the airport or at any of the other reported locations in the following days. They reviewed all available material, including videos and photos, and concluded that, surprise, surprise, it was all airplanes, helicopters, or celestial objects. (Who could possibly have seen that coming?)

They did, however, come up with two minor findings, which I see as a bit of a loophole for politicians, so they don't end up looking completely ridiculous. DTU (Technical University of Denmark) spent eight months analyzing data from the airport's bird radar and its main surveillance radar.

Their conclusion was that they "cannot rule out drones" because they found one unexplained radar track on the bird radar, even though the manufacturer has stated that the system is not designed to detect drones. They also found a single unexplained track on the main radar showing an object over the sea moving at around 100 km/h.

My guess is that these could be radar anomalies caused by atmospheric conditions or something similar. In any case, they were clearly not what caused the airport to shut down, nor what kept it closed, because nobody actually saw anything.

I think the media have been reasonably tough on the politicians, calling the whole affair embarrassing and a scandal. Unfortunately, that probably won't lead anywhere, because they simply keep repeating that the police also cannot rule out drones.

Our so-called Prime Minister stood up the day before the police report was released, pointed at her head with both index fingers, and said that it was IMPORTANT for people to understand that we are in the middle of a dangerous hybrid war, that it is all connected to Russia, and that while there may be individual cases that cannot be proven, the overall pattern is supposedly very clear.

Personally, I think the media should be going much harder after the airport management. Right up until the end, they insisted they had evidence for everything, including videos and other proof. That demands an explanation now that the police have reached the exact opposite conclusion.

But thanks for the fight, everyone. We can be proud that we questioned the story from day one and, in the end, turned out to be completely right. :)
