I did an experiment to confirm this. A glass coated mirror is very different to a sheet of aluminum.

Hence why astronomy (including infrared astronomy) uses front-surface mirrors. No glass to absorb the light. If you purchase a nice front-surface mirror and redo your experiment you should get a different result.
