I started Metabunk.org one year ago. Metabunk.org grew out of ContrailScience.com, and the desire to write and have discussions about things other than contrails (and "chemtrails").
Over the course of 2011 the traffic on this site has steadily grown to match ContrailScience, with thousands of visitors coming here looking for answers to specific questions, or just coming here to discuss various aspects of debunking.
It's still a small site. Just 3,264 posts made in 2011, and only 67 active members. But there's a steady stream of hundreds of unique visitors every day, and many posts here have become the go-to pages for people's searches on Google.
Particularly successful has been the "quotes debunked" forum, which is not at all active in terms of posts, but gets a significant percentage of the search engine traffic. It seems like there are a lot of people who, very wisely, don't trust everything they read on the internet, and try to search out the truth behind dubious quotes. All I had to do was put up the debunkings, and people immediately started to read them.
The chemtrails forum is the most popular discussion forum, with over half the posts on the site. To some extent this is due to discussions moving here from ContrailScience.com. But the forum software is also much more suitable for individuals to start their own threads and have a discussion here (ContrailScience was more of a blog than a forum).
Thanks to all the regular visitors and posters for keeping things interesting. There's a lot of bunk out there, and I'm expecting metabunk.org to grow rapidly in 2012 as we tackle some new subjects and continue to hack away at the existing ones.
Happy new year!
Mick.
