A mass shooting occurred at Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport in Broward County, Florida, United States, on January 6, 2017.[4] The attack occurred at about 12:55 EST (UTC-5) near the baggage claim in Terminal 2. Five people were killed, thirteen others were taken to the hospital, and a suspect was taken into custody.

Investigators have not released a suspect's name,[3][8] but U.S. Senator Bill Nelson of Florida identified the gunman as Esteban Santiago, 26, who was carrying military identification.[9][8] Broward County Mayor Barbara Sharief said that the gunman was a "lone shooter" who had been arrested and "We have no evidence at this time that he was acting with anyone else."[8]

Call Me Nuts, But Something is Fishy About the Ft Lauderdale shooting (self.conspiracy)

Within 15 minutes of news breaking about an active shooter at Fort Lauderdale airport, the police say 9 shot 1 dead.

How often do they confirm these things THIS quickly? ALMOST NEVER.

They have given out no info on shooter except he/she is in custody.

My spidey senses are off the charts - something is weird about this. I am not one to label things false flags because c'mon, but this one smells weird. Watch the race of the perp - we'll see what narrative the govt wants to push.

However this claim does not stand up to scrutiny. The numbers were not correct (unless they were originally given as "at least X people shot/killed"). And the reddit poster posted at 18:28 UTC, 13:28 EST, 33 minutes after the attack. The attack was reported to have taken less than a minute, then the gunman was apprehended (surrendered?) So half an hour is ample time for some policeman to tell someone some rough numbers.

A common conspiracy theory that seeks to explain mass shootings is the idea that the government stages them to try to get gun-control legislation passed (with the ultimate goal of taking away all guns, and enslaving the population).

This theory has already sprung up with one youtube poster noting that an assault weapons ban bill was proposed in the Florida House a few days ago:
http://www.wesh.com/article/local-lawmakers-pitch-gun-control/8562689

Smith is sponsoring a bill in the Florida House, which will be cosponsored by Democratic Orlando State Senator Linda Stewart, that would ban the sale and transfer of certain assault-style semiautomatic firearms.

The proposal, if it becomes law, would ban the kind of weapons used in massacres, including the one that claimed 49 lives at Pulse nightclub June 12.

Baseless and ridiculous though this theory might be, it's also debunked by the fact that the gun used by the airport shooter was just a 9mm handgun.

since the writer seemed to have listened to the first press conference by police/fbi, he wrote that wrong.
5 deceased and 8 injured, -13 total- although newspeople reports before the press conference (3:27pm Fla time) stated at least some victims were not injured by gunshots.

Which during the press conference the sheriff seemed to confirm when he came back on the second time (after fbi and airport director spoke)
" no victims suffering from gunshot wounds" Sheriff Scott Isreal. he was speaking about the victims at the hospital at that time. i'll add a video of it once someone posts the press conference to youtube (i havent looked for it yet)

^^sorry i just relistened to it and he was referring to the second report of shots fired in another location, that didnt happen.

Some people think it's curious how he got the gun into the airport. He had it unload in his checked baggage, then when he arrived he collected his bag off the carousel, and went into the bathroom to load it.

This might lead to the suggestion that the authorities will ban guns in checked baggage. However this makes no sense. If someone wanted to shoot up the baggage claim area in an airport then they simply need to walk in there and start shooting. There is no security to get into baggage claim (at least in the airports I've been in recently: Los Angeles, Sacramento, Las Vegas, New Orleans). You can just walk in there from curbside.

So banning guns from checked baggage would not protect the baggage claim area.

Presumably carrying guns in hold luggage is allowed in the US, it just has to be unloaded

And only on internal flights ?

Correct.

This may still lead to changes in regulations though. People might not be allowed to possess a gun at their destination, so there might be more checks now. Probably nothing that would have stopped this guy though.

thanks for the clarification Mick

there has been some (understandable) confusion on UK focused forums about the whole gun/airline/security angle

trying to make something of it

It's legal to fly with a loaded gun in the US?!

Ok, only in checked baggage, but...jayzus...

Maybe there might be some justification for taking a gun on a plane - even in the hold - but surely they could at least ban the bullets. What possible justification could there be for flying with those too?

To take them from one place to another. Anyway, this is not the place to debate gun and ammo laws.

I have often transported knives (kitchen knives or camping knives) in my checked baggage. (USA)
The length of these knives are sometimes over "legal carry", depending on state.

As far as I know, you do not need to declare knives (or file (declare) for approval).
But as a precaution, I always include a letter placed at the top of my checked baggage...like:

This knife is for camping or kitchen use purposes. Please contact me if there is an issue (818)-___-____

I include a similar voluntary letter, if I'm transporting other "tools" of my trade.

Bottom line, is I don't want my precious tools confiscated, for unnecessary reasons.

Not yet noted here, but this sort of thing has happened before.....back in 1972....

At 10 p.m. the attackers arrived at the airport aboard an Air France flight from Rome.[9][10] Dressed conservatively and carrying slim violin cases, they attracted little attention. As they entered the waiting area, they opened up their violin cases and extracted Czech vz. 58 assault rifles with the butt stocks removed. Immediately afterward, they began to fire indiscriminately at airport staff and visitors, which included a group of pilgrims from Puerto Rico, tossing grenades as they changed magazines. Yasuda was accidentally shot dead by one of the other attackers, and Okudaira moved from the airport building into the landing area, firing at passengers disembarking from an El Al aircraft before being killed by one of his own grenades, either due to accidental premature explosion or as a suicide. Okamoto was shot by security, brought to the ground by an El Al employee, and arrested as he attempted to leave the terminal.[11][12] Whether or not the attackers were responsible for killing all of the victims has been disputed, as some victims may have been caught in the crossfire of the attackers and airport security.[7]

Though I believe newer security measures are now in place, to help prevent such an overt attack.

Like Mick said earlier, I use LAX airport in Los Angeles. The checked baggage pick-up is relatively unguarded. Any stranger can enter that area from outside......and I'm hesitant to say what could happen in that situation.
In other words, I don't think that the problem is "what's in their checked baggage", but more about the mental stability of "the person" owning and firing a gun.

There are already too many YouTube videos demonstrating "False Flag" theory. Some of them have some questionable use of "crisis actors". There are some strange videos of first responders not really in any hurry to aid injured with serious bleeding, there is also a question of CNN using the same crisis actor in two separate interviews. There is also a very off video of folks running on the tarmac to escape the carnage, yet the stop and wait for a "director" to begin running again to get the video footage right to make to false flag look real? Yes it's only a hand gun but the point is that a gun was again used to kill and maim innocent folks at a travel center. You can see how easy it would be to use poor crisis actor scenes to convince the public that we need to go take the guns from everyone

I don't see that as easy.
I see the use of "crisis actors" very difficult, if it was indeed an orchestrated
hoax.

i watched that footage. The video taken from the street angle is taken within moments of the shots fired according to Michael Strobinsky who took a pic about midway (when officer talks to victim) of the street-angle video footage which lasts 2 mins and 13 seconds before the paramedic arrives.
:36 Fortunately my wife is a medical professional and she told the woman to raise the victims hand to slow the bleeding down, and she did so and it took a few minutes but the sheriffs cordoned off the location and fire rescue came and medical professionals came and they were able to take the man to the hospital.

I'm not linking to that video since its Peekay"Truth" channel. and.... :/
It's typical Peekay, trying to put silly thoughts in people's heads.

3 people of a running crowd stop and turn back momentarily because the man in pink ("the alleged director") , who is probably a friend, stops when he gets behind the shed -most likely thinking he is safe there. His 3 friends were ahead of him and had just run past the shed. 1 man stops to go back for him, and the two girls with him then stop and wait for the men to start running again. which they all do within seconds.

not really. the first step HAS to be to reinstate the assault weapon ban. They will never be able to ban handguns before that is accomplished.

CNN using the same crisis actor in two separate interviews.
ok 1. there is no proof she is a crisis actor, so please dont spread bunk without evidence.
2. why is it strange she would be interviewed twice? and what makes you think the second interview was by CNN? looks like ABC to me. and she tells the same story both times.
