Viral post of normal air traffic over Bellevue, WA

There is a reddit r/ufob post that I think is pretty obviously a sequence of clips of normal air traffic in the heart of the Seattle metropolitan area, predominantly flying into SEA airport, on a typical landing pattern when SEA is landing from the north, which routes planes from the SE to fly north over Bellevue and loop around. I think this is pretty straightforward and wouldn't really warrant even addressing on here but it started to get reposted on X by some popular 'ufotwitter' accounts.

The user says the sighting started while leaving Seattle on I-90 eastbound, over the bridges and Mercer Island, and into Bellevue. The sighting period was between 2025-09-26 at 8:15PM PST (2025-09-27 03:15 UTC), to 9:30 PM PST. The user says that there were no planes visible on flightradar24 which they thought could match what they were seeing. However, there was typical commercial traffic both directly over and within 10 miles of Bellevue for the entire evening, including planes flying north over Bellevue during the time window specified. This notion is simply mistaken.

They even posted this in a later comment on their original post:

This red line for their visual estimate of the flight paths forms a pretty shallow angle with the actual northbound flight paths of planes approaching SEA airport. If they misjudged the angle and distance by a little bit, it would pretty easily line up with those flight paths that they would also have been seeing throughout the entire period they say they were there. Curiously, they make no mention of the many low-flying airliners they would have also been seeing flying in the same region of sky, in the same direction, as these aircraft they saw and think were not airplanes.

A plane flying every couple minutes over this area would lead to a significant number of sightings over 1h15m as they describe. Below I have filtered to only departure/arrival traffic for SEA, BFI, RNT airports. The flights flying due west into the final landing queue for SEA would have also been visible from the bridge the viewer drove across, in addition to those flying north over Bellevue. Planes taking off south from SEA which turned to fly north may have also been visible (e.g. EIN952 below).

Here's where they'd be looking up to from the I-90 bridge just after leaving Seattle. To the NW they'd see planes flying N, curving towards the W, flying W, and then maybe passing out of view behind their car or obstructed by the city as the planes descended further and further down to ground level.

In addition to large airliners, there are also other small jets and prop planes and helicopters which flew threw/near this area, not very far from the viewer.

They linked a google drive folder with timestamped videos, and I looked at 3 of them and they lined up with when there was a plane flying over the area I believe they were filming from at the south end of Bellevue. Below is one of them, provided in Sitrec. In an effort to preserve privacy as some may have been filmed near this person's house, I have not gone too far with attempting to geolocate them precisely, but rather used a generic location on I90 which is somewhere close, but north of where they were filmed. And I have made a few seconds of adjustment to the flight path sync. Since these are low planes flying directly overhead, and given the location, seeking too much more precision could start moving you into specific streets in a neighborhood. I think this is sufficient to demonstrate that there actually were planes flying over when and where they were filming.

Slightly compressed and brightened Sitrec video:

I think is a case of a witness having some confusion about how airplanes look or how hard it can be to eyeball distant aircraft sizes and trajectories, especially from a moving car. I think they somewhat underestimated how far away these aircraft were. But even then their estimate was not *that* far off and so I don't really get why they were convinced they were not airplanes. I think these subreddits are reinforcing bad ideas and these people are unfortunately getting caught up in it. And other influencer/disinformation accounts pick up the story, do zero fact checking or even mild exercising of skepticism, and promote it as proof of anomalous airspace activity.

These are both relatively popular accounts and but are consistent sources of bad information. The disclosureorg post was also itself reposted by a number of other large 'ufotwitter' accounts.

And then there's this one, one of the big conspiracy theory accounts:

I've encountered them on a thread yesterday and they shared this drive

Which compiles a bunch of their sightings. They all are very clearly planes and not at all hard to verify.

I picked the one that's a video from inside a car for fun and matched the three planes visible.

But they seem convinced that the "drones" pass the west side of the I-405 while the planes are very clearly to the east when viewed from a top down map.

The flaw in the reasoning is that the "drones" are to the right side, not to the west. It would be the west if the road were heading straight from north to south, but in that particular part it's actually going from the northwest to the southeast, so the planes appear to the right despite always being to the east of the road.

This whole thing is a demonstration of the primacy of belief over truth. Belief is important as something that binds a group together.

You'll never convince these people, because they speak a different mental language.
