I think there is some "alignment" between the spiritual/religious beliefs of some, and this new frontier of science - there's more than a hint of people saying that these NHI have been here for a long time and might explain many of the religious...

Might I point out that using "strange materials from the sky" goes back at least to the days of the Pharaohs. Tutankhamen had an iron knife made from a meteorite.
