ok this map is basically the exact same key (only difference is the blue bar graph on this key)

These are the active areas of disappearances, showing changes over time. Active regions can start and restart again, and move or change boundaries in the process.

"Active areas of disappearances", being defined solely by what examples they choose to lump together at any time, are not physical entities that can start, restart, move, etc. All it means is that this year there are more cases over here, and last year there were more cases over there. They seem to be treating their chosen regions as if there's a magic fence around them. The woo just oozes out of their pores with wording like that.

All it means is that this year there are more cases over here, and last year there were more cases over there.

As expected of a random process with small numbers. But when they're invested in claiming it's not random, they're not going to describe it like that.
