A Cody man watched nearly two dozen glowing orbs rise over Cedar Mountain west of town every night last winter. Then they vanished for months. Now they're back, and Wyoming's Mutual UFO Network director says he has no explanation for the video.


Every night from November to February, Jezriah Krubeck could watch from his porch as nearly two dozen mysterious lights rose from Cedar Mountain west of Cody.


"Just like orbs floating up over the mountain," Krubeck said. "They would float up and move toward each other. There were quite a few that basically followed the ridge line from left to right."


Then they stopped, and he thought the mysterious phenomenon might have moved on. This week, he said, they're back.


"They would interact with each other," Krubeck said. "I don't think it was a naturally occurring phenomenon in the way that they moved. Because not only would they change directions, they would stop. I had a little laser that I'd shine on them, and they would stop."
The orbs, he said, also never matched any satellite tracker and they didn't have the flashing lights required on aircraft.

The relevant media see to be this image (and a video covered later), originally downloaded from the news website is has a file name "UFO-Krubeck-9.25.26.avif" I converted to JPEG for forum use, original download attached as a zip.

The lights here seem to be mostly stars, easily solved by Sitrec's solver

Given a terrain match and some internet sleuthing I think this puts the viewpoint looking east from west Cody and if the day is correct from the news image as the 25/09/2026 or near by then the time seems to be around 2:45AM local

So on to the video, this is available from Youtube, I have downloaded and attached it

I also stabilised it on the red beacon light and added them all to this Sitrec, which is set to where I think the video and photo are taken from.

Because the same double red beacon pole seems to be in both the video and the still image and we have a star confirmed direction for the video, there does seem to be 3 stars visible at points in the video (non moving lights) but it's not enough for the plate solver, maybe an experienced astronomer might be able to id them

It would help if we could identify the red beacon on the map to then align the video FOV with the real world I cannot see to find it and streetview from here is older.

Though this does look like Starlink and the flare zone is visible from this locationa at this time, it does seen to be in a different direction to the angle of the video

Obviously there's a lot of missing information here and if we had it it might be easily solvable, but enough to make a puzzle some members might enjoy working on.

There's no confirmed date on the photo or video, but in the article it says:

Every night from November to February, Jezriah Krubeck could watch from his porch as nearly two dozen mysterious lights rose from Cedar Mountain west of Cody.

For dates around November the stars and the flare zone line up looking west, so its conceivable this could be a video from last year.

Matching the ridgeline in the phot with the ridgeline of Cedar Mountain seems to match for a view west:

Recent articles say he's seeing them again, which us implying they are recent, of course that could just be some 'errors', but this thread can help determine it maybe..

I found this (but Flarkey found it faster as usual). It doesn't look like there is much more around that could match but the pictures are from 2024.

yeah perhaps this means the viewing position I found is not quite correct.. The hills behind don't quite match and the angle between buildings and tower is not right, unless there are newer buildings on some of the new lots

If you move the camera up the road a bit the hills and the tower start to match, but the buildings are still a little out

But the foreground starts to match the river valley patterning better

And the stars match for the time at 2:40 25/9/26

So the truth is probably somewhere in that area

Tower is around 55 metres, the light position is unclear, but the beacon will be pretty much at the top.

I found a frame in which there are a minimum number of satellites.

Somewhere in the neighborhood of midnight. Probably after midnight. Western sky.

If the witness saw these things "every night last winter", why has nobody else reported seeing them? Surely he would have told others to watch the sky at the proper time, wouldn't he? His whole backstory sounds fishy.

People haven't reported seeing them because the vast majority of people don't look up at the night sky or notice what's happening there. There is another section of the population who'll see the lights and just assume 'plane', and another section who'll think 'satellite'. There's only a very small part of the population who'll see something they can't explain and be bothered to either 1) work out what it is or 2) officially report it to police or UFO sighting groups.

Krubeck said he wasn't the only one. When he started seeing the orbs, he asked his friends in the neighborhood to take a look out their windows, too.

Many saw them, he said, but nobody quite shared his curiosity.

"I wanted to have as many people see it as I could, just to verify," Krubeck said. "I was always kind of shocked. They had the initial fascination, but then they're like, 'Oh, OK, whatever.' I think it's just the way we've been so desensitized, it just wasn't a big deal."

The usual pattern. There are witnesses/believers and skeptics who will investigate. Put the two groups together and they represent about 0.02 percent of the general population. Most people aren't interested.

Another guy in this same story is reporting a classic ordinary stars in the sky sighting. They hover but they kind of waver around (saccadic eye movements). They follow him as he's driving (parallax). The search for a logical explanation (every outlandish explanation the witness can think of except the obvious one... they're stars). They can't be stars because he's a solid citizen who has lived under the stars all his life (except he's never looked at them... until now; and doesn't recognize them because he's never seen anything like them before).

Krubeck isn't the only one looking up. On Wednesday night, Casey Edwards, a gold miner and tattoo artist, had just turned off the highway near Medicine Wheel in the Bighorn Mountains when he spotted a single light ahead of him that moved, then stopped dead.

"I'm like, 'All right, that's just weird,'" Edwards said. "I started videotaping it, and then I could see a couple other ones. There were like four other ones."

When he started driving again, the mysterious light did not disappear into the rearview mirror.

"It almost, like, followed me down the road," Edwards said. "Once I got into camp over there, I counted five or six of them in the air. They were just hovering, and you could see them kind of dance back and forth a little bit as they were trying to stay stationary and the wind was moving them around."

Like Krubeck, Edwards said he looked for the logical explanations first. He thought they could be drones ranchers use to monitor cattle. Archery season had also just started, and he thought maybe they could be drones from hunters.
But as the night went on, Edwards said the lights didn't behave like typical drones.



"Small drones, they got maybe a 30-minute flight time," Edwards said. "These things were up there for two-and-a-half, almost three hours."

The "Expert" who can't explain them (obvious satellite flares)... Wyoming's Mutual UFO Network director... is an old friend; Richard Beckwith. He's the guy who personally videoed an unexplainable and intriguing UFO. A campfire on a hill.

Reminiscent of the Sweetwater County - Jim Bridger Power Plant - Drone Reports thread about the same paper's December 2025 story on Mystery Drones, Or Maybe UFOs, Over Sweetwater County Are 'The New Normal' where "no one" was providing answers, but no witness provided images or video or looked to see whether the power plant was near an interstate flight path.
