Video of Strange Beam of Light and Noise after Blackout

Hi all, I recently came across a post on the Center For Inquiry forum where a poster claimed to have security footage of a strange “search beam” that appeared after their power went out over night. According to the poster they believe that it was a UFO that could’ve been trying to “abduct” them, and they have no idea how it could’ve produced the strange sound that’s heard in the video.

In the video you can see the poster’s power go out in their residence, and the emergency power light show up immediately after. After a couple seconds a beam of light that looks to be coming from above like some drone appears near their window and produces a strange sound that’s picked up by the security camera/system.

Would anyone have any idea as to what it was? Maybe it was some drone? Was whatever that source of light was possibly responsible for the residence’s power going out? Or is this most likely just another hoax perpetrated to gain some attention? Looking at the person’s YouTube channel they do seem to have posted a fair number of videos trying to slow down and figure out what this alleged UFO was. So I’m not entirely sure if this was more likely a hoax or not.

There's no evidence for anything flying, so there's no need to bring the concept of a UFO into the discussion. There's no light scanning across the scene, there are two different illumination events, so no need to describe what's there as a "search beam".

Stop phrasing unknown things in terms of one of the least likely possibilities. That's 2 strikes.

The initial more neutrally-coloured ambient lighting event's a little hard to isolate, as it's not casting obvious shadows, but the second one is clearly from near to where the camera is (plant-pot shadows), as is the sound (clear propagation of the higher frequencies). It could be something a simple as the security system blinking and beeping to indicate that it's falling back onto battery backup power. It wouldn't be unusual if battery mode were indicated by a repeated blinking, and it's <fx: clears throat>curious that the video cuts of where it does, so we can't tell if that's the case.

At least one of the reasons for the 'beam/light' seems to be the exact same light as when the power is running normal.
Indeed it seems some backup system kicking in and some lights try to get back on again but fail or something.

the scientific approach would be to cut power to the building again on another night and see if it happens again

(why would it be aliens and not burglars?)

i watched it again at 1/4 speed. The two blinks of light seem to come from the same direction as the original illumination (streetlight?) and a sound accompanies both of them. Furthermore, the sound occurs right at the beginning of the video too, suggesting that a nearby electrical malfunction was the cause of the power outage. It sounds to me like a transformer, perhaps up near the streetlight.

Yeah this seems to be the key light, do we have a location for this one, tracking down what that light is seems to be the solution. In the before shot I had assumed it was a reflection or something from the light above, but it alone comes on again when the second illumination event occurs.

Seems like a light near the houses in the back; when it turns on briefly you can see the car and sidewalk light up also a bit which give a pretty good indication of where the light comes from:animate.gif
However there seems also to be a some change in the lightening in the two frames it is on. (lightening up the tree a bit more at the top center in the last frame).
It might be a result of the single light, but maybe there is a second light also? (looking at the way the bush near the sidewalk changes too).

It's probably the shutter speed, afterimage persistent etc that we often see on security cams i.e. with trails etc.

It's also possible, the light source we see is something like a streetlight and the actual source of the tree/car illumination is another different streetlight that is also trying to come back on at the same time.

Woh, youtube fed me a vid with way less resolution and clarity than that, and disgusting compression artefacts too. I wish I'd had your version, it's much easier to see what's going on in that one!

So, we're all agreed - it's cyberaliens that have infiltrated the electrical systems? :)

I used the one from the opening post. I"m using a plugin to make the screenshots directly from a youtube video; so you don't have any toolbar in sight. E.g. for Chrome or Firefox.

It seems like this climate change thing isn't just a global, but also a galactical problem. I guess the power lines weren't sufficient to load their electric powered UFO (who flies with gasoline these days...)
