TFTRH #10: Jen Senko: Director of "The Brainwashing of my Dad"

:) i know.

I do think it sucks that local news stations have any political bias, and i see by the SBC wiki page that Sinclair is pretty open and unapologetic about insisting on conservative stories he thinks aren't covered by other outlets, and things like his false news blurb.

I do support regulation for certain things. Like i said anything labeled "News" should just give the vanilla 'who, what, wehre, when,' and if a 'why' is given by a source that seems biased at all, a secondary source of the other side should be given. That is what journalism is.

While i do like hearing other people's opinions on issues, because they might mention something i didnt think of, I prefer News sources to just give me the facts. Then if i wish to hear other opinions (other than my own) i can go looking for them.

I'm surprised the viewers don't speak up.
Iv seen that video some time ago , Most people on the right Mocked it as well ,

But since Google is You Tube
on an upnote, the left hates Google now too :) so it's all good.

Can you imagine moderating those platforms with everyone crying about everything. If it was me, I'd be like "you know what? i'm not your mother. Figure it out yourself (obviously threats and actual illegal stuff would just get removed). And Advertisers, either tell me which genres you want to advertise on or screw off"

I remember back when YouTube was first created in 2005 there was a right-wing extremist whose channel and videos would get taken down quickly, so he created dozens of accounts and kept re-uploading videos, and is probably still doing it.

they have designed something that can sniff out reuploaded videos, but its pretty easy to get around. And with these new VPNs everyone is using just makes policing another 1000x harder.

OK, Tucker Carlson fans, did you watch this episode, and did Carlson realize that the "mysterious UFO" was a water tower?

That was a pretty clear video of the base, BTW. I can see my house from here ;)
meanwhile over on CNN Don Lemon is still looking for the Plane that disappeared into a Black Hole .I believe Both Tucker and Don Lemon is opinion not news .Out of that whole show is that all you watched ?

I didn't watch it. I tried to find out what camera was used to film Area 51, and came across that screenshot.

and you should screenshot the water tower and include the channel name "adventures with Chris". This is a debunking site after all and other readers are unlikely to click your "video" hyperlink. Mostly because that shot on TC is not clear, there is no way for readers to know you are linking to the original "Adventures with Chris" footage of the "UFO".

This just in. I don't look for these things, they just keep popping up.

Former Fox News reporter leaves network over ‘partisan misinformation’

Carl Cameron spent more than two decades at Fox News as one of the network’s political correspondents. He called it quits back in 2017 and now, as he embarks on another project, he dishes on why he left.
"It’s about facts, not partisanship. I was one of Fox’s first hires. The idea of “Fair and Balanced” appealed to me, but over the years, right wing hosts drowned out straight journalism with partisan misinformation."

maybe if the left ( newsmedia, Hollywood, tv, school programs) didn't do such a good job normalizing extreme partisan activism, people might care if Fox News did it too.

in my experience all internet activity, whether you're googling or using social media.. they just give you more of whatever you looked at or commented on. Which makes sense, clicks make money. If they show you things you aren't gonna click on, no one makes money.

I think education of how commercialism on the internet works, is super important. Google (FB, etc) doesn't exist because they want the world to be more informed, they are there to make money.

The above MediaBiasChart shows the partisan spread. I'd shift a lot of the "neutral" media into the "skews left" column, and I'd like to see more high quality media in the "neutral" and "skews right" column. It's funny how the "skews right" column includes trashy tabloids like The Daily Mail and The National Enquirer.

This is a pointless Thread !

:) MB is about providing data for people "on the fence" or who are sober enough to honestly consider alternative viewpoints and honest context. Did you really think you were gonna "win" an argument against people that think her documentary is sober and useful? Be reasonable.

You talked me out of spending money and time on that documentary.

and The National Enquirer.
I didnt even know the National Enquirer (does it still exist) did news pieces, I thought it was all "My girlfriend had an alien baby" type stuff [ET alien babies, not people from other countries]

No, that's Weekly World News. The National Enquirer is the one that's owned by Trump's friend who paid off Trump's mistress to kill her story. Trump praised their coverage of John Edwards' affair, and quoted their conspiracy theory about Ted Cruz's dad's involvement in the JFK assassination.

It must be the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon. Like, I stumbled upon the Tucker Carlson Area 51 screenshot by chance, and would've ignored it if not for this thread. Here's another example. The Metabunk thread on whether the AIDS crisis was overblown reminded me of the book The Myth of Heterosexual AIDS, authored by Michael Fumento who wrote a lot about moral panics. So I visit his website to see what he's been up to, and what do I find there?
"My Break With the Extreme Right", 2012
http://fumento.com/media/extreme_right.html
I've written for umpteen major conservative publications - National Review, the Weekly Standard, the Wall Street Journal and Forbes, among them. But no longer. That was the old right. The last thing hysteria promoters want is calm, reasoned argument backed by facts. And I'm horrified that these people have co-opted the name “conservative” to scream their messages of hate and anger...
The very people who coined and promoted such terms as “Bush Derangement Syndrome, Cheney Derangement Syndrome and Palin Derangement Syndrome” have been promoting hysterical attitudes toward Obama since before he was even sworn in... Polls show that about half of voting Republicans buy into the birther nonsense (one of the more prominent hysterias within the hysteria). Only about a fourth seem truly sure that Obama was actually born here...
The right didn't create this reservoir of fear, anger and hate. But it has both tapped into it and roiled it. Indeed, the right-wing mass hysteria is what sociologists call a “moral panic.”

This wasn't recommended to me by some algorithm. I just randomly stumbled upon it.

You talked me out of spending money and time on that documentary.

It was actually pretty informative if your brain is in the right mode. It's basically the story of the rise of Donald Trump... history repeating itself. Backlash against communism and social changes etc.

I learned about the Hardhat riots, which i don't recall ever hearing about before
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_Hat_Riot

and quoted their conspiracy theory about Ted Cruz's dad's involvement in the JFK assassination.
yea that sounds about right.

That definitely happens too. But I have been experimenting with social media and even my msn news feed, and they really do give me more of what i've clicked on. You can try it. Like now my msn (browser home page) feed is giving me all fluff pieces because the last week i've been clicking on articles about miley cyrus and meghan markle etc. This is just as far as highlighted recommendations, obviously you can still scroll more to find other real content.

I think you can tell MSN which topics you're interested in, but not which news sources you prefer. You can tell Google News both your preferred topics and sources. Yahoo News allows comments, so it can't individualize too much, or there won't be enough people commenting on a story.

but not which news sources you prefer.
but they do seem to remember, or your browser tracks you. I did a brief experiment with Fox News articles a while back, I was only rarely rarely getting them as a source, so I made it a point to click on them more often and then I got them as a source more often.

I don't have a problem with any of this, the platforms are designed to get you to click and engage. So obviously they want to provide you with stuff you are interested in. So far my youtube experiment ( a few weeks) is confirming echo chamber suggestions for the most part and i'm not seeing any conservative bias as far as recommendations.

long time occasional lurker but this video finally made me want to make account and leave a reply. but this one made my blood boil. conservative brainwashing because of the conservative talk radio? has she not seen 99% of news, magazines, tv shows, movies, "celebrities," science talks, comedians, education, extra and their massive far-left brainwashing? and she wants to complain about the few outlets for right-wingers? i'm only 29 but the large amount of brainwashing i endured growing up in k-12 and college is insane. example, i believe in climate change, i just don't believe the overall impact they claim is real that the end is near and only have 10 years unless we do near overnight changes. i'm skeptic of that part. but you know how many times i was called to my face on campus by other students a climate change denier and ridiculed because i simply didn't believe a certain aspect of it? this was only 4 years ago before trump got elected. yeah, please, tell me its only the right-wing media that's brainwashing.

look everyone is trying to brainwash, manipulate, and control people. people always want to try to convert others to join their tribe, and more importantly, tribes will always try to destroy other tribes who are competeing against their tribe. and this lady is no different. she's not trying to defeat "brainwashing." she's trying to destroy the right-wing to allow her tribe to go unchallenged against and reign surpreme. not everyone is "hitler" because they watch fox news and listen to rush limbaugh. just like not everyone is glorious josphen stalin wanting to reign in a USSR one party system by asbording media from cnn, msnbc, nbc, abc, cbs, E! channel, comedy central, sfyfy, logo, black entertainment channel, the young terks, contrapoints, destiny, magic the gathering (wizards of the coast), games done quick, blizzard entertainment (banning a player for doing the OK symbol in a competition), EA/DICE, comic-con, SPLC (remember, OK symbol is a white nationalist symbol along with a green fog), new york times, public education system, TED talks, google, apple, twitter, vogue, youtube, washington post, the view, NPR, chapotraphouse/againsthatesubreddits/politics/ extra on reddit, reddit as a whole, mediamatters, thinkprogress, shareblue, open societies, to many non-profits to name, antifa, motherjones, jezebel, buzzfeed, most gaming "journalist" websites, vox, vice, slate, most netflix orginals, gillete ads, bernie sanders, bill nye, the list goes on and on.

but i digress, its the right who has gone to far to the extreme. gone so far to the extreme it has mostly stayed stable after nearly 20 years. with 2016 ironically heading back towards the left. but man has the left gone off to the deep end. but hey, like the NYT stated in this article (https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/06/26/opinion/sunday/republican-platform-far-right.html) has an excellent graph showing how the left has gone so far off the rails (photo of graph also uploaded here: but I guess still the right in the US, even though it hasn't changed much in nearly 20 years, has gone far right because other right-wing parties around the world, that have historically been more left compared to the US, is more left like it traditionally has been. Like nyt tries to imply.

<-- tim pools excellent video showing how democrats are now not even considering themselves democrats anymore for how far off the rails they have gone. long but a good one. Also sources that nyt article.

ugh. when i was growing up i considered myself left-wing because of the fundamental chrisitans of the right, for example, told me pokemon was evil as it promoted evolution. but now its the left that has gone off its rails telling me i'm a crazy right-winger because i don't think the world is ending in 10 years and even though i support abortion, i don't support abortion on 9 month delivery day. instead i support up to 6 months because i don't believe at 8 months its a lump of cells that doens't look like a human. i was born at 8 months myself. huh. but because of that i apparently hate women and want to control them because i see that "lump of cells" at 8 months a human baby.

When even Pat Robertson says, "I think Alabama has gone too far," about Alabama's abortion ban, adding, "It's an extreme law," you know the right has gone off the rails.
Robertson cited the law's lack of exemptions for rape or incest and its punishment up to 99 years in prison for performing an abortion in the state.

That is one state. Did you watch the Democratic debate?
No puedo creer que tengamos que escuchar a Trump por otros 5 años y medio.

Georgia’s law is more severe in that it both penalizes doctors who perform abortions, and recognizes “unborn children as natural persons,” meaning women suspected of having abortions, or even who miscarry, could be criminally investigated. “You don’t want a woman to be forced to prove how she lost her baby,” Carol Sanger, a professor at Columbia University Law School, told the Washington Post.
That’s not even considering the failed or stalled bills that have been pushed in red states that propose even more punitive measures, such as a bill considered by the Texas House of Representatives last month that would have allowed both doctors and women who had abortions to be charged with criminal homicide, which is punishable by death.

Of course the states are passing these abortion bans because they hope that the new more conservative Supreme Court will overturn Roe v. Wade.

I watched the GOP debates in 2016 where Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio defended speaking Spanish in their campaigns, and Ted Cruz responded to Rubio in Spanish when Rubio said, "I don't know how he knows what I said on Univision because he doesn't speak Spanish."

yea and we got Trump.

Common sense has gone out of the window . Politicians can lie through the teeth and get away with it.
Image and perception is now what counts. Look at the US government for instance, they have paid out over 4 billion pounds because of vaccines yet we are consistently told it’s a conspiracy.
https://childrenshealthdefense.org/...or-vaccine-injuries-and-deaths-keep-climbing/

This is the world we live in. And they want to make vaccines mandatory.
Why are real issues like this relegated to conspiracy?
How come the news seems more concerned about the rights of transvestites than the homeless or health care ,people having to work 2 or sometimes 3 jobs .etc etc . Inclusivity! take a look at Netflix every other film has a transvestite , or a token gay character ( that’s how gay men are mostly portrayed, the woman though are mostly portrayed as tough , see the ridiculous bat woman trailer ) and look how many super hero films have a woman lead character . Inclusivity is all over the place so what are the LGBTQ’s and SJW’s moaning about. There has been some great female leads alien ,terminator 2
Etc.
Go on you tube and you can see that the film review channels have now tuned into political debate because of this agenda.
Woman’s sport is dying . There is a man who fights MMA . He’s not transgender ( like most he has not transitioned) and he his beating the crap out of woman in the ring and the SJW are defending his right to do this because he’s now got a woman’s name “ unbelievable “ did you know that the met fined a man £90 because he did not want to be identified by the “ facial recognition van” Orwell’s vision has arrived . Technocratic nightmare is what we are walking into .
Politics / news has became a side show a diversion from the what’s really going on .
Who cares about trump,Clinton’s ,Obama any politician. The power has always been with the oligarchs and bankers . All my years alive and my government has done nothing for me but take away and run services down . Good luck to the yellow vests in France that’s what the world needs right now. I know I have strayed off topic a bit.

Did you see this? 4 minutes of Fox News.
"What if Fox News covered Trump the way it covered Obama? It would look like this"

Hannity: Mr. President, you need to stop acting like a schoolyard bully and start acting like the leader of the free world.
Judge Pirro: Mr. President, everyone is laughing at us. You're like a schoolyard bully, no one's afraid of you. PUTIN sure as hell isn't!
Cavuto: With all due respect Mr. President, maybe it is time you stopped looking at a TV tuned to Fox, and looked in a mirror tuned to, I don't know, you.

Fox News used to hate the idea of talking to North Korea — but since Trump has mentioned it, they’ve suddenly opened up to it...
When Obama suggests something, he’s being brazen and brash but when Trump does he deserves a Nobel Peace Prize — it appears that Fox News correspondents don’t care so much about the issues themselves as much as who is helming them and if they are sympathetic to their party.

and yet the Democrats, by and large, are all NOW saying the same things that are in your video montage. and not just 'news' personalities but people running for President.

Hypocritical politicking doesn't really have anything to do with brainwashing though, does it?

I just looked to see how Fox is presenting it and this is the first clip I find. Which includes letting the Dem guy have his say (although it looks like 4 to 1.. the show is called The Five.)

The grey haired guy from The Five (Republican):
"of course they're going to attack him. That's what you would do. and let's be honest, if it was an adversary from your party from the other side doing it.. we would do the same thing."

The black haired guy from The Five (Republican):
"How dare Obama!"

Grey haired guy:
"exactly"

Are the candidates saying that they won't meet with Kim Jong-un? Obama never did meet with him. He held a "historic phone call" with Iran's president.

It has to do with a cult of personality and historical revisionism, like in 1984 when the allies and enemies are suddenly swapped.

I just heard on the radio that there is a new series on Showtime called "The loudest Voice in the Room", all about Roger Ailes. Apparently there was a 2014 book. hhmmmm….

And it is rather anti Ailes based on book reviews.

The Loudest Voice tells the story of Roger Ailes who "molded Fox News into a force that irrevocably changed the conversation about the highest levels of government, will help understand the events that led the rise of Donald Trump. The series focuses primarily on the past decade in which Ailes arguably became the Republican Party's de facto leader, while flashing back to defining events in Ailes’ life, including an initial meeting with Richard Nixon on the set of The Mike Douglas Show that gave birth to Ailes' political career and the sexual harassment accusations and settlements that brought his Fox News reign to an end. Told through multiple points of view, the limited series aims to shed light on the psychology that drives the political process from the top down."[2]

Sadly, viewers of Fox News will dismiss Mr. Sherman's excellent work because the propaganda station is much like an altar to them and they are the brainwashed disciples going forth to spread the conservative Fox News word.
