"Team Chemtrail" & Chemtrail Pilots Anonymous Satirical Facebook Group

I am kind of ambivalent about that page. Yes it is funny and well done, but it seems rather counterproductive. Conspiracy theorists are not known for their grasp of satire.
I understand what you're saying, Trailblazer. Quite sure it's not intended for those conspiracy theorists. I enjoy visiting their page when I get really angry after reaching my saturation point with the bullshit of the Murphys and the Wigintons of the world. Takes the edge off, and I get a hell of a laugh. These guys 'get it', I think.

They are not known for their grasp of much of anything rational. I'm not sure that page would hurt anything, really. It might be better than making it seem like we are taking them seriously.

It hurts. People who get that it's satire think it's Psyops. People who don't get it will think it's real. Then there's a bunch of people who will hear about it second hand - and then tell other people there's a bunch of whistleblower pilots on Facebook.

For the sake of some chuckles, it's causing harm by spreading and reinforcing the chemtrail mythology.

I suppose, but the true believers seem to be able to spin anything into evidence they are right. They simply don't care about facts, in the least.

That IS pretty steep.

Yeah....again, slightly OT so apologies....I have seen various patches for sale online from USD$2.95 up to USD$8.95

Of course, it's always about "volume"! (There is an up-front cost associated with the commissioning and making of these things...so....maybe the cost is in-line with reason?). Based on the "demand"?

The alternative iMO is tippy toeing around the topic and almost twisting onself into a pretzel so that the "believer" doesn't get the wrong impression. Maybe this is an extreme example but it's like a person twisting themselves into a pretzel around an alcoholic family member so they don't anger them rather than just coming out and telling them there is a problem and their behavior is unacceptable. Chemtrail believers seem to be made up of young tween children, then you see the profile of some and they are adults and you wonder what their IQ can possibly be to be so gullible and willing to suspend their disbelief. Why is it so obvious to some of them that a page like this is satire and not others? Why is it so easy for them to dismiss Metabunk as some vast government sponsored disinformation site, when there are a handful of regular members? I don't want to violate the politeness policy and I hope I don't, but it's not productive to second guess everything one does in case someone who is marginally mentally ill misconstrues it. And we can't expect everyone to do that.

You don't have to second guess everything. And I don't tiptoe round the topic, I directly address it. These types of satire/hoax are just not helping - and that's not just about "marginally mentally ill" people, it's about regular folk.

in my experience people that English is a second language or just people from different cultures don't understand sarcasm/satire. my step father has been here for over 50 years, understands and uses English very well. has very sarcastic children ; ) so has had ALOT of exposure but he still doesn't 'get' sarcasm or satire in English.

and as far as planes and science... you guys could be sarcastic all the time and since I don't really know the subject that well, I would have no idea until you made fun of me for believing you!

Boom.. headshot.

Thats EXACTLY what Mick's saying, and I wholeheartedly agree. Its very similar to Andy Kaufman.. if you were IN on the joke, it was fucking hilarious, if you werent.. you thought it was purile and stupid or that he was being dead serious.

Those of us that DO understand it (and Im JUST beginning to wrap my head around what you flyboys know in your souls), think its funny. From the outside though, and to the uninitiated.. itll either enforce a confirmation bias, or create one.

I'm all about helping these people out of their paranoia of fiction - and I have wasted a lot of time trying to do so on youtube, but I must say... if someone believes that the Air Force made a patch with "Spray and pray" and (wait for it...) an On/Off switch on it.... and ON/OFF switch!!!! Doesn't it almost seem like they were already destined for a mental hospital eventually at some point in their lives? Just a matter of time... once they get the right trigger.

I'm sorry, but there is nothing anyone can do to help people who would believe that.
Come on! An On/Off switch and "Spray and pray" on a patch? Really?

It just illustrates that this is not a rational logical issue related to reality, but a 100% emotional issue- and that is why we will never get through to them. We speak of science and rational facts.

WE ARE NOT TRAINED PSYCHIATRISTS and we never will be.
