The letter S in your diagram is not at the stern of the submarine. The stern is just behind the vertical fin sticking out of the water a ways to the left of the S. Lengths of vessels can be confusing, there are multiple measures that can be used... -

In the name of quibblers everywhere, I'll suggest a foil balloon, (commonly called a "Mylar balloon") is more likely, as there appears to be a ridge running from pole to pole, the sort of structural feature easier to build into a foil balloon...
