Just took this photo on Friday while on a hike. It may be hard to see in this photo upload but the contrail shadow extended all the way down to where the trees in the foreground cut it off. -

Your photo and all others I have seen show a much more diffuse edge to the phenomenon, which makes me wonder if @FatPhil 's original post on this subject was AI, or perhaps just an enhanced view of a legitimate sun pillar.

I'm not sure I'd bring a handgun to a rattlesnake fight, but recent reddit posts also reminded me that it's rattlesnake season already here in San Diego. Rattlers apparently start coming out of hibernation around Albuquerque in March.
