Debunked: Contrail Anomalies. [Engine Gaps and Galley Drain Trails]

Please explain why there is no apparent vapor gap between these trails and the engines. Also why stuff is coming out of the fuselage on some of these planes...? Fuel dumping usually occurs from the wings of airliners. Maybe it's a different model. I'd like to know exactly what were dealing with before someone calls it fuel dumping - ie what type of plane it is, and where the fuel is dumped from on that type of plane.

The Gap difference is explained here:
http://contrailscience.com/how-big-is-the-gap-between-contrails-and-engines/

The ChemtrailsPlanet image was discussed in full here:

https://www.metabunk.org/threads/1350-Transparent-Gaps-and-Fifth-Trails

With the key post being:

In A, B, & D there are gaps, just smaller gaps. The gap size varies:
http://contrailscience.com/how-big-is-the-gap-between-contrails-and-engines/

B & C probably shows a galley drain. Water being dumped from the kitchen sink, basically. You sometimes also get APU exhaust in the same location. Example:

Probably would make a good Contrail Science article though.

And it's absolutely not fuel dumping. Fuel dumps do not happen inline with the engines, as that might ignite the fuel.

Thanks for the swift reply. Here is the video (started at 00:40) where the stuff is coming from the fuselage. It's quite a lot of stuff that pops out in plumes. How many gallons of water do those reservoirs hold? I'm only asking because I want to know for sure that it couldn't possibly be a "chemtrail" (aerosols mixed in with contrails)...

Also, one other question since I seemed to have asked a question which was already posted. This is a video of trails in the sky at an altitude of 17,000 feet. How can these trails occur if they are at 17,000 feet?

Looks like a galley drain.

The trails are not at 17,000 feet they are a long way off - notice he's still looking up at them.

Consider for comparison the Everest View Hotel, which is at about 13,000 feet, and the view it has of Mt. Everest, which is at 30,000 feet.

(And notice Everest, the highest mountain in the world, actually looks a little lower than the surrounding peaks from this perpective.

And Chemtrails look like Contrails. I thought contrailscience.com was supposed to provide sound answers to peoples fears of a chemical-aerosol program in the skies. I guess if the burden of proof lies upon me to find out the model of that airplane and then find out the capacity of it's "galley" then I suppose I will do that.

Er, nobody told me that. :)

Besides, "looks like a galley drain" IS a sound answer. The galley is the kitchen, they occasionally dump out stuff like hot water, and it goes down the galley drain mast. There's plenty of examples of images of this, here's one from a pilot:

Following a Continental B-757 to San Juan after leaving JFK. We were at 36,000 feet, he was at 38,000 feet with slightly more tailwind. The vapor trail is from the drain mast below the aft galley...probably coffee or water.

Galley drains in commercial aircraft are routinely used for disposal of an assortment of beverages including coffee, milk, juice and carbonated drinks.

the difference between this "look like" statement and the pictures of galleys draining being that we know that galleys exist.

I guess if the burden of proof lies upon me to find out the model of that airplane and then find out the capacity of it's "galley" then I suppose I will do that.

Galley sinks are about the same as bathroom ones on a/c - about 5-6 litre from memory, and most coffee pots are about 2 litre

Note that - like with the exhaust contrails - there can be water contribution from the outside to the ice crystals formed from the drain spray, making the stream of ice fog more voluminous (and probably persist longer) by condensing - or rather accreting - on the crystals from the freezing 'sewage'.

It all depends on the conditions around the plane - air temperature and humidity.

Annother factor for the perceived plumes of the drain trail is the sunlight illumination. The sun is obviously standing low-front-left, and the drain trail lies in the shadow of fuselage and exhaust contrail, while getting direct illumination only occasionally through gaps in the 'main' trails.

I think that the stream from the drain mast is a lot steadier than it appears to be.

Put quite simply, the images being discussed are a hoax perpetrated by Harold Saive, who ripped off the images from an aviation enthusiasts video without attribution:

The photos Harold Saive shows here were ripped off of an aviation enthusiast's youtube video here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkrfZJjLw_4

The planes are clearly identifiable commercial planes making contrails.

Ask yourself why Harold Saive has resorted to photoshopping an aviation hobbyist's photos of ordinary commercial planes making contrails to drum up support for the "chemtrails" hoax?

This sort of sophistry wouldn't be allowed at the Gainesville Sun. You would have been fired for such fakery, Harold. Shame on you. You know better but seem to have no conscience.

Also consider that the auxiliary power unit (APU) may be running. It's a small jet engine in the tail of most jet powered aircraft. It supplies electricity and bleed air. Sometimes there may be an equipment deferral that requires it be run continuously throughout the flight.

I think there may be even annother trail in addition to the one from the tail and the engines ...

Between 0:47 and 0:49 in the Saive video, there seems to be a thin stream going by the left side of the gear compartment, assumably from some release point ahead. Annother galley? Or can it be aerodynamic trailing?

Edit: the additional trail is visible more clearly in the original video (Backyard Planespotting) at around 0:51
