Contrail Pentagram and other "Signs" in the Sky

I question this, if you're referring to the most vertical of trails - it is the one that seems to produce a shadow and is more likely to be real, and the part that is visible near the sun is in the bloom of the sun, not the sun itself.

OK, perhaps I did not explain this clear enough. Let me try another go. Illuminated by the sun contrails cannot be brighter than the sun itself. 'The bloom of the sun' is just a highly overexposed area of photograph, in which no fine details could be visible. It is technically possible to take the picture of a contrail across the sun disc with the help of special filters, it looks like a dark stripe on a bright background:

Also, in contrails passing near the sun, the brightest parts are always closest to the sun, unlike the bright 'star corner' on the right.

I agree that the images of the two contrails crossing each other at the bottom could be real in some parts, but the rest of the 'pentagram' is fiction.

I do get your point about any contrail not being able to register through the sun itself, I just wonder if that one is just on the edge of that limit?
I give that one credence because it seems to be the source of the shadow, and faking the shadow as well, given the poor technique shown in the blatantly fake parts, seems beyond the level of sophistication of this particular lying hoaxer, plus it means it was pasted which is strange given they just drew a line for the other one.

Yes, I think this trail was deliberately "enhanced" in the part where it crosses the sun bloom, probably to make a visible corner with a drawn 'trail', which is also brighter than the sun.
 
Here is a diagram illustrating how a star-shaped contrail grid can be created by the planes, which routes of cross each other at the same point in the sky, e.g., above a navigation beacon. [NOTE: they do not physically cross each other but are separated vertically by at least 1000 ft, but this is a small difference compared to their altitudes of 30,000+ ft.]

Let's assume that (1) the five different routes all cross at the point O and (2) the wind at the contrail altitude blows in the direction shown by red arrow (that is, toward the camera). Each contrail initially goes through the point O, but the wind carries it closer to the observer so the contrail appears rising in the sky. The five contrails are numbered 1 to 5 in the order from the oldest to the youngest. The oldest contrail crosses the red line drawn in the wind direction the farthest away from the point O, the youngest one crosses it at the nearest point. For a given direction of the wind, there has to be a particular order of the five different flight directions to form a star.
 
I think most of the bottom line is fake. and some lines are smudged a bit to even out the star.

I could not find a high-resolution version of this picture, but at the available resolution all its contrail images seem plausible to me.

ive found some curvy ones, problem is finding ones that are right side up. I like my p but having trouble with d. this is the best so far. ; ( (im trying to spell Deirdre in clouds)

I shot this back in January, I've thought about using it for an alt account with the name Diego de la Vega.DSCF0177.JPG
 
But then I'd have to manipulate the photo, make it something it was not, present something to those who trust me what was false to the sky I saw, Diego de la Vega is about truth, justice and the American Way. :D
and if the damsel in distress needs an "N"? :)

Two lines at an angle to each other will always meet, what's so clever about it?

That the pilot(s) have made an almost perfect pentagram, awacs off at precicely the right time (no continuation of trail at the end of each angle), can you see the trails continuing at the end of each angle?, no they stop to create the pentagram!
 
No, the lying dishonest person who scrawled over the photo did that. Why no outrage directed at them, instead of just your imaginary illuminati?
But it can happen without unscrupulous people faking it and you've been shown multiple examples of why things like this will occur relatively often given the right air-traffic and conditions.

Well, this is obviously not a correct statement....anyone looking at this image can see that. (Keeping in mind, of course, that this image shows all the hallmarks of having been altered). You can clearly see a long contrail angling down from the upper left in the image, appearing before the
"point" (it isn't really a "point", it is an intersection of two lines, making an angle). Over on the left, another intersection, with contrail extending beyond the "point"...etc.

Ya know, when I was a kid I first learned how to make a star, using pencil and paper, and the trick was to never lift the pencil from the paper. Here's a video that reminds me of what I learned, oh so long ago:

Yeah, ya know Humans love patterns, and what are considered "attractive" designs. It's part of our evolutionary history, likely growing from our need to recognize patterns as early hunters in order to anticipate the prey, that sort of thing. Then, the artistic side of our development (along with emotions) evolved.

Consider the ancient Egyptian Ankh:


Slightly modified centuries later, and co-opted by another religion ( :rolleyes: ). Humans also like to keep things "simple". Nothing wrong with that, I suppose, until it gets misused.
 
The picture people suspect is photoshopped was saved in Picasa, which bodes poorly for it (The picture in the OP has no metadata except the ICC stuff). Error level analysis doesn't show anything that jumps out at me, but I'm not very good at interpreting ELA output unless they're really obvious (most photoshops are slipshod jobs if you start poking at them a bit). The picture's full of compression artifacts, too, which jump out in bright white and probably erase anything useful.

That's the one. I decided to take a closer look since Zane still demanded an explanation after everyone else already figured it out. Not that I expect it would satisfy him.

Amazing when you think about the skill level and coordination needed between pilots to complete this image. Its funny when you think about it, how air shows today make pictures in the skies for us to see and enjoy on the ground, so why did the ancient make giant elaborate pictographs on the ground (perhaps for someone above to see "sarcasm")
 

That is a really good example of some average contrails, and how the perspective fools the eye into thinking that they are at a much lower altitude above the ground than they really are.

(And, those birds...Geese? Again, more of the way perspective...and also camera lens focal length... can fool the observer).

The issue with still photos is always going to be whether it has been altered in some way, of course....but also, the "unknown" settings in-camera that were used to capture any particular image.

Really, if you take time to study photography (and cinematography) you realize the amazing visual effects that can be produced, simply by using lenses of differing focal lengths.

Unfortunately, then....these images can later be pointed to as "proof" by someone, either because they are unaware, or are being intentionally deceptive. The issue arises because our Human eyes see the world a certain way, and thus a photo taken with any variety of different methods can be used to deceive. (If that is the intent. It has become quite effective, over the years. e.g., the Apollo "hoax" claims...but, this strays OT).

I'm sure given the right vantage point and being a set amount of miles away from an airport or perhaps between airports anyone could come out on a clear day and take a photo like this. I live in Jersey and I'm surrounded by airports, Newark, Philly, Atlantic city, and some smaller ones. All day everyday there are always contrails in the sky above me or towards the horizon.
Has anyone ever seen a contrail during sunset? It really is a beautiful sight. Also is there an optical illusion when planes are further away and lower in the sky, because contrails around here look so small, but as the plane makes its way across the sky and closer to us the contrails seem like they are getting longer. Does that make sense. I also witnessed one during dusk when a plane was flying directly away from me. It was far away and the contrail would light up bright pinkish, and then disappear, and then on again. It was cool, but the older contrail would dissipate. It was a really cool sight, but didn't have the mind to take a photo with my phone, plus I didn't want to seem like a loony bin...
