Just to verify, I get the exact same sun direction in Sitrec. I'm leaning towards a sun reflection. The motion of the disc seems to be related to the motion of the camera -

Thought it seems unlikely, I suppose it could also be some small object that crossed the field of view as they took pictures of the jet, and when they got the film developed it looked interesting and the made an embellished story. So they might...

I think the "could it be genuine" question is a serious one, not merely a lack of skepticism. That's especially true since the answer, from everyone from physicists to pilots, is a resounding NO, at least concerning a hovering craft as described...
