If it was moving very slowly and just appeared very small and features like rotors or engines couldn't be seen, I'm not sure the pilot would be able to accurately judge what way it was moving anyways, given the pilot's aircraft was flying at...

On a side note, the only time I watched Close Encounters was when it hit the big screen in my country, my Dad took me to the cinema to watch it. I don't remember if in Brasil that movie also premiered in 1977, I was thirteen years old back then...

Personally I’d rather he show me the overwhelming evidence rather than hearing more of his “trust me bro” stories. According to these guys the real disclosure is always just around the corner. It’s been like this for decades -
