I'm perturbed by the concept of "the region of the sky opposite the Sun". An atttempt to imbue that with meaning might interpret that as a weird way of saying in the direction of the L2 point, but that makes no sense as the source of meteors.

Where in my quote does it say "region of the sky"? It is from the observer's perspective at a certain time and place. It does not mean to say it is a physical point.

That's not a "region of the sky". It's as much a *time* as it is a place. And there are hundreds of billions of them in different places simultaniously, as there's hundreds of billions of potential observers.
