Thanks for the link. I just wrote a long comment on there pointing out all the errors he made (ugh). Although, he does say he doesn't think they saw aliens. He strawmans the puppet hypothesis and gets lots of other details wrong, unfortunately...

Just me, but I think Mellon is very serious. There are certainly those in UFOlogy that are grifters and likely a large amount of quasi-grifters, but Mellon seems to really believe this stuff. I think these Villarreol papers were a very big deal...

I think the metaphor relates to something that is loud, urgent and (in their eyes (ears?) ), very uncomfortable to hear for most.

The President should be aware of the current status of intel briefings which he should be receiving daily, or more than daily, during an active war. I don't think anyone is suggesting he personally should be frequently skimming the NYT frontpage...
