I don't know.. I was surprised to hear that they have a number of them in various states of repair. If they are physical objects, they are incredibly advanced, appear to do magical things. I think they are stranger than just physical objects... -
It needn't even have been "pretty". If your intention is to get a photo of a reflected plane, you'd have to act fast, and that means that the photographer may not have deliberately "composed" the shot at all, just snapped the plane's reflection...
