This is a limited rollout of this feature. Enabled for mostly senior members and some heavy users. Both the photorealistic buildings and the flat-shaded buildings are free to a small degree, but if a lot of people start looking at a site, it could get expensive (for me). So let's just see how it goes, and if you need bigger quotas. It's certainly a feature that would have been useful for some past cases. Like this one. See the before and after for a much more realistic look, as well as more accurate occlusion.

As part of the refactoring I did for this, I finally got rid of the local EUS coordinate system, which dated back to the original Gimbal sim, and now do everything (except local rendering) in ECEF. Meaning the origin is always at the center of the Earth, rather than some random point off the coast of Los Angles, or elsewhere, depending on the setup.

This was very complicated. See: https://www.metabunk.org/sitrec/docs/TransitionToECEF.html so, as with the EGM96 Ellipsoid shape of the globe, I anticipate a few unresolved issues. But I also fixed a few bugs along the way - like solar eclipses are now MUCH more accurate.

The building/terrain imagery is most useful for "slam dunk" recreations for others.

Is it expected that older simulations will have issues when the 3d buildings option is ticked? For example one I tried the camera altitude was changed visually but not according to the slider, and moving the slider has no effect on the camera height..

Can you post a link to the sitch?

I anticipate several errors, but hopefully all fixable.
