It had to happen - someone has noticed the bad-ass weapon Matt Damon uses in the sci-fi film and lept to the conclusion you know they were going to!

I'm interested to see what happens when Matt Damon's character shoots his CHEMRAIL gun. Will it cause DNA defects, respiratory damage or some other problem? It is an intriguing use of the word chemtrail, minus the T. I wonder what your other readers think?
the movie data base imfdb has this to say about it:

Judging by the name, firing effects, and the fact it seems to fire semi-normal ammunition, it is probably a combination of normal rifle firing caseless rounds with electromagnetic rails to increase velocity.

Yeah, looks like a hybrid Chemical (normal ammo) Rail (electromagnetic) gun.

Although I would not be surprised if the designer was aware of the conspiracy sounding nature of the word.

Totally off topic but years ago (90's) we had to use a little known range. As we got on camp there were hand written signs for the "Top Secret Railgun Facility". I was left wondering what it was as I had not seen any railtracks. It seemed it was all local knowledge and I got talking to a guy in the bar who explained about the project, they were developing one, and more the fact that most of the building was taken up by equipment for power generation. When I got home I really used to piss my son off when he was playing Duke Nukem and I would explain the impracticalities of a handheld railgun.
