Claim: seven volcanoes erupt within hours

World Truth TV is claiming that seven volcanoes erupted within hours. The seven mentioned are Niijima off of Japan, Colima in Mexico, Pecaya or Volcan de Fuego in Guatemala, Yasur in Vanautu, Mount Etna in Italy, Mount Sinabung and Mount Merapi in Indonesia The story is presented as a current event, but I see now that it was mostly a rewrite of a 2013 post on a website called Ice Age Now, and doesn't even mention Calbuco. I can only find evidence of one of the seven, Pecaya, having eruptive activity in the last week, on Google. Colima erupted March 31.

Fuego volcano (Guatemala): strong activity and lava flow during 17-18 April
Monday Apr 20, 2015 11:11 AM | BY: T

Lava flow on Fuego early on 18 April 2015
A more intense phase of activity with the effusion of a 2 km long lava flow on the southeastern slope into the Taniluya canyon occurred during 17-18 April.
Activity has now returned to normal levels of intermittent strombolian explosions.

Volcanoes erupt a LOT. The average is 50-60 per year, around one per week or better. Over 80 is unusual but not especially noteworthy (2010 and 2013 were both over 80, probably why the article is a rewrite from 2013). In any random series, clusters are going to happen.

And that doesn't count those that are just always doing something, for example, this is the complete list of volcanoes that have had activity within the last two weeks, with dark red being the most recent and green being the longest. It's a very long list.

Sinabung and Merapi have each had a low level eruption going for months. I flew back from Shanghai last week and we were re-routed due to Sakarajima erupting to 15000 feet.

This is not unusual activity.
