A submission to the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC), dated October 11, detailed an encounter with glowing UFOs that the ship's crew said moved at impossible speeds and patterns.

For about 40 minutes, two sailors watched through binoculars as a single orb appeared 12 to 16 miles away, which 'rose and fell rapidly, bearing right and left, periodically shooting at hypersonic speeds, for about 5-10 minutes.'

The report, posted on October 21, claimed that three or four more orbs appeared, which looked the same as the first.

'All twisting and turning, rising and falling together in no set pattern,' the report states.

'Every so often they went somewhere else altogether, at a speed I can only call unreasonable, and then were simply there again.

'We picked up no targets on the radar.'

The NUFORC report included screenshots of the boat's radar, reportedly taken during the encounter, showing nothing on the screens that would suggest objects were in the sky.

The witness said the encounter began around 3:25am, when the ship's second mate spotted a strange light low above the horizon, slightly to the left of the vessel's bow.

The ship was crossing the Atlantic roughly 400 miles south of Nova Scotia, heading east at about 20mph, according to the report.

The witness described clear skies with only a thin crescent moon, saying 'visibility was great.'

The vessel was not noticeably rocking, and there was 'no traffic whatsoever' nearby.

After seeing the first orb, the sailor said: 'The others appeared, 3-4 more. They were like the first in every respect.'

Another startling NUFORC report was submitted last year, featuring a video showing a clear image of what one witness believes was a giant UFO flying over California.

The April 27 video taken by an unnamed resident in Twentynine Palms followed what appears to be a brightly-lit hexagonal craft as it flew over the desert.

The report, posted on October 21, claimed that three or four more orbs appeared, which looked the same as the first. The witness shared screenshots of the radar to show no objects in the sky when they saw the UFOs

The UFO reportedly appeared out of nowhere around 10:27 pm PT while the witness was staying at a remote cabin.

According to the report, the suspected spacecraft was moving very slowly and irregularly, like it was in a daze.

'It seemed to move arbitrarily with no clear path. The movements were jerky and at varying speeds,' the witness wrote in their NUFORC report.

The large object also appeared to pulsate, giving off a bright light from its edges, as it moved through the sky for approximately 15 minutes.

'Tonight is the new moon - so it was definitely not the moon, and in any case was much brighter than even a full moon,' the witness continued.

'The striking thing was its great brightness and irregular shape and path,' they added.

Characteristics: Emitted other objects

Several orbs flying at impossible speeds/patterns. spotted south of nova scotia

At roughly 03:25 the second mate informed me he was witnessing a strange light, 1 point on the port bow, roughly 10 degrees above the horizon. tonight the sky was clear, with a waxing cresent moon with roughly 1% illumination, visibility was great. we were going 17 knots, bearing 078, no pitching or rolling. our position, roughly 40°01′ N x 62°57′ W, crossing the atlantic ocean, maybe 600-700km south of nova scotia. no traffic whatsoever.

Both myself and the second mate watched through our binoculars as a single glowing orb, maybe 12-16 miles off, rose and fell rapidly, bearing right and left, periodically shooting at hypersonic speeds, for about 5-10 minutes. After this interval that the others appeared, 3-4 more, they were like the first in every respect. All twisting and turning, rising and falling together in no set pattern. Every so often they went somewhere else altogether, at a speed I can only call unreasonable, and then were simply there again. We picked up no targets on the radar.

Sitrec shows that Starlink Flares would have been visible at that location and time on a bearing of around 070, which matches the sailors description of the location being "dead ahead - 1 point on the port bow".

Nicely done.

The inclusion of the unrelated Twenty Nine Palms hexagonal "UFO" is odd -- it does not sound like what I recall of the earlier case from that location. I recall that one was likely/possibly flares. All I have found so far from THIS UFO is this still:

I am dashing about today with the furnace folks coming, so don't have time to dig into this one -- if somebody wants to hunt for the video, it might be worth messing with, though it seems, in the still at least, to look a lot like our ol' pal Mr. Bokeh and a hexagonal aperture. But if the video is interesting, it might be worth a quick thread.

I really struggle to comprehend how you can judge an "orb" (presumably a light, not a physical sphere) to be "12 to 16 miles away".

Anyone any ideas?
I'd expect sailors to be used to estimating how far away other ships are, in part based on comparing what they can see to what the radar shows.

The radar display in the picture shows the range set to 16.24 nautical miles, which suggests that's the limit of what they can compare observations to.

The earth curvature calculator at https://www.omnicalculator.com/physics/earth-curvature suggests that if you're about 30 feet above sea level the horizon is about 7 miles away, a light in the sky just above the horizon would resemble a low-flying object seen maybe twice that far away?

So I can see how they'd guesstimate 12-16 miles.

Why these guys are only noticing Starlink flares for the first time in late 2026 is another question.

Particularly as they don't know the objects' sizes,

As the "orbs" were not an identified type of object whose approximate size might be known and there are no instrumental indications of distance, and they were (presumably) viewed against the sky above the ocean (no fixed landmarks or high terrain that they might fly in front of), it's hard to see how anyone could be confident at estimating their distance or speed.

Starlink flares are a relatively recent phenomenon.
The first Starlink satellites were launched in 2019, but the numbers have been steadily increasing over time. People only really started noticing them in 2023.

Warner has also observed that the flaring occurs primarily in one kind of Starlink orbital shell: those that are inclined at 53° to Earth's equator. Those shells currently make up the bulk of the satellite constellation. As additional orbital shells are populated, Warner believes that the flaring phenomenon may become visible from more southerly latitudes — potentially increasing the number of pilot reports in the future.
