It's not arbitrary - it's the visual angle between that line and what that line would look like if it was subject to the same vanishing point as the equivalent lines on the left image. That is what is forcing it to look "too angled": it is...
I was thinking about what level of perspective cues are needed to maintain the illusion.
Here I just traced two of the lines on the side by side images. With the background, the illusion is there - the purple line in the road looks more slanted...
The angle you marked is arbitrary; you could've chosen other lines (e.g. ones that are parallel). So that doesn't explain anything.
And I don't understand your argument about the camera position ("vantage point").
Thanks Mick. Worth adding what is and isn't in that release, because it changes what anyone can do with it.
The 107,875-row file is the VASCO 2025 sample. The detection output behind Solano et al. (2022). It carries RA, Dec and observation date...
I have made a lot of analysis and datasets concerning the VASCO 2024 sample (107K rows) and related source materials during this year. I will publish the relevant ones as reports, code etc. at some point.
I want to continue analyzing other...
I think that's pretty much what I said, isn't it? It's certainly what I meant to say.
Our brains are comparing the lines in the right photo with the vanishing point in the left photo, which makes them appear to be angled. As I labelled here...
Not really. AARO delivered work product, and Sean Kirkpatrick was very open about how AARO works, and what it can access. I don't know Kirkpatrick or anyone else who works for AARO, but I can see how they go about what they're doing, and I trust...
About a decade ago I wrote a KSP (Kerbal Space Program) themed version of "2001: A Space Odyssey", played for laughs. I followed up with a little, documentary style story, about the work of the director on the movie, "Stanley Kerman" (a rip on...
Lots of great responses above. I agree with a lot to varying degrees*. The main point I was picking up on was:
We all have our biases. The claim here is that AARO are trustworthy when they say there are no NH visitors because they are government...
Same.
It's a very powerful illusion, but even when I look at it and understand why I am seeing it, I can't stop seeing it.
The source of the illusion, of course, is that our brain knows that the lines of the kerb and paving are meant to be...
It's on youtube.

I think it's this one:
The program was thoroughly debunked; the footage was shot on an inexpensive set constructed in a London living room. Its alien bodies were hollow...

Given that Gates himself is a target in some conspiracy theories, I wonder how the chemtrail believers will deal with this?
