I suspect if a device produces photos and videos, those are still a type of photography, the sensors inside the device can be thermal or otherwise, but I wouldn't say an IR image is not a photo, it's still light in a sense.

Possibly you had "Wait for Background loading" on before. That waits until all possible 3D tiles are loaded before frame advancing, and can really slow things down when zoomed in at a shallow angle.
