    Oroville Dam Spillway Failure

California Department of Water Resources placed sandbags along a inside wall at the Edward Hyatt powerplant to manage possible water seeping due to the debris backup in the diversion pool from the damage Oroville Dam spillway. The powerplant is located underground at the left abutment near the...

Oroville Watershed Weather Forecast, Lake Level and Inflow Calculations

Looks like the dam level may have bottomed out. Between 1100 and 1200 today, the level rose by 0.02'. Inflow and outflow figures not yet published at the time of writing. Edit: Strangely, the outflow is 59899 and the inflow is 57081, yet the level has risen. I don't quite understand that...

Oroville Watershed Weather Forecast, Lake Level and Inflow Calculations

I have done a very rough and ready calculations based on most recent inflows and outflows and the statement from William Connelly (source: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1683579861668957&id=100000508772678 ) He says outflows currently 55K cfs, but could be increased and inflows...

Oroville Dam Main Spillway Waterfall Erosion Watch

Is it clear what they mean by the 'low flow channel'? Is it a) The RHS channel that is taking more 'dirty' water closer to the dam wall and power station? Visually from the photos and Fox feed it looks like this channel is taking ~90% of the flow, so can hardly be called low flow. Moreover...

Oroville Dam Main Spillway Waterfall Erosion Watch

Does anybody have any up to date shots of the original main spillway failure? It seems to me the latest shots of the lower spillway failure to the RHS are obscuring the original failure due to the spray. It would seem to me to be important to get a handle on the extent (if any) of the...

Oroville Watershed Weather Forecast, Lake Level and Inflow Calculations

Outflow down to ~70K cfs (edit <65K for hour to 11 am local time). Inflow creeping up to 40+K cfs for the last five hours. The water level is still dropping (854.62 @ 11am local time), but much more slowly than before. It looks like they have got lots of headroom, so should be safe if they can...

Oroville Watershed Weather Forecast, Lake Level and Inflow Calculations

Outflows fallen to around 80K cfs, as they said it would. Interestingly, inflows still low, despite rain. Lake level still falling quite rapidly. Oroville Water Flow 20170216 by David T posted Feb 17, 2017 at 12:30 AM

Oroville Watershed Weather Forecast, Lake Level and Inflow Calculations

I would think that after all the earlier rain, the ground is already fairly saturated and the plants have already taken up what they want/need. So I would suggest most of the rain precipitation will make it into the lake. Key will be how much falls as snow and stays in the mountains.

Oroville Dam Main Spillway Waterfall Erosion Watch

New pictures (Feb 15) up on the DWTR site. FOr some reason, I can't download them, but would be grateful if someone could take a close look to see if there's any sign of erosion on the main spillway...
